H.E.R. Wore Particle Fever To The BET Hip Hop Awards 2020

The 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards, which took place Tuesday (October 27), wasn’t the event I hoped it would be (no red carpet) due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Megan Thee Stallion took home three awards including Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year, Best Collaboration (For ‘Savage’ featuring Beyonce) and Hustler Of The Year.

City Girls, 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Lil Baby and Burna Boy were among the performers at the ceremony, but the attraction of the night was the ‘Ladies First’ cypher, featuring Teyana Taylor, H.E.R., Erykah Badu, and Brandy rapping over the beat for Brandy’s hit ‘I Wanna Be Down.’

Many of you will remember the original 2005 remix featuring Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo and MC Lyte.

H.E.R. turned the performance political, addressing Breonna Taylor’s police-shooting death.

The singer wore a custom look from Shanghai-based fashion sportswear brand; Particle Fever.

They take on a very eccentric approach to sportswear, rethinking what a piece of sportswear can be, both technically and aesthetically.

But as this was a custom piece, I’m getting more of an ode to hip hop legend Missy Elliot.

I love how this leather jumpsuit brings a rebellious mood, which echoes biker tropes for what could be considered as an androgynous look.

Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Morgana’ Boots and shades with a provocatively striking silhouette completed her look.
