Get The Look: Emmy Rossum’s Gotham Awards Makeup

Emmy RossumCelebrity makeup artist Quinn Murphy worked with Emmy Rossum for the Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday (November 30) in New York City.

“Emmy was wearing a black and brown Simone Rocha mini dress to the Gotham Awards. I wanted to do something sexy and to bring out her beautiful eyes. I used black, chocolate brown and camel hues to give the smoky eye effect,” said Quinn.

Here’s how to get the look.

He started by using a very tiny amount of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation #4. Emmy has amazing porcelain skin, so very little is needed. He then lightly filled in her brows with M.A.C. Pencil in Lingering, focusing on the outer third of the brow.

For the eyes, he lined the top lash line with his favourite Votre Vu Pencil in black. It stays put basically forever, so it’s great for long wear at events. He increased the thickness on the outer ends of the eyes and gave them a mini cat like shape. Next he used a duo of NARS Shadows on top of the black liner to create the ‘smoky’ effect.

First, a deep chocolate brown – Bengali – and then a warm taupe called Blondie that he blended past her crease. Next, he linked the bottom lash line with a Kevyn Aucoin brown Pencil Liner. Brown on the bottom isn’t as heavy and one-dimensional as black. He finished with black mascara on top and bottom lashes.

He bypassed blush and instead used a bronzer to keep the look cool and tough. He used NARS in Casino on the edges of her face and slightly towards the apples of the cheek.

For the lip, he didn’t want to do anything too ‘makeupy’ – something resembling her natural lip tone to keep it cool and unfussy. He lined the lip with Kevyn Aucoin Medium Lip Pencil and filled in the entire lip. He topped with basicChapstick for moisture and touchups.
