Best Newcomer 2014 – Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Gugu Mbatha-Raw may be a newcomer to the scene, but she’s quickly staked her claim as a fashion force to be reckoned with.

The British actress has already racked up a list of colourful and classically modern, sartorial victories to go along with her film credits.

Where to begin? A custom Lanvin column gown by Alber Elbaz in emerald green at the ‘Beyond the Lights’ New York premiere couldn’t have been more elegantly refined if it tried—complementing rather than competing with her beauty.

Another custom Lanvin confection, this one in bold black and white floral print, was equally astonishing at the Met Gala.

A minimalist, pale-peach Calvin Klein dress was subtle and oh-so-sophisticated at an ELLE event.

Lupita Nyong’o left big shoes to fill in the Best Newcomer department last year, but Gugu has certainly strapped on her stilettos and done the role proud. She’ll not soon fall off our ones- to-watch list.
