Miley Cyrus In Marc Jacobs – 2013 Met Gala

MileyCyrusMarcJacobs

Miley Cyrus has been building her punk sartorial cred for a while now, so it’s no surprise she dressed 100% for the Met Gala theme of ‘PUNK: Chaos to Couture’ in New York City on Monday.

Miley vamped it up in a look from Marc Jacobs Fall 2013. Her long-sleeved black mesh gown and nude underpinning was a straight shot ode to the punk era.

Theme aside, the style was very Miley–mostly edgy with a hint of sex appeal. The dress grazed over her curves for a sexy, yet covered feel.

Clearly dedicated to the punk style, I love that Miley went for the theme, but I wish she had just taken a step back with her hair. The spiky ‘do is a bit over the top and I’d much prefer to see her red lip paired with deep side part and slicked back strands.

How do you feel about Miley’s overtly punk hair style?

blame the hair on marc jacobs! he styled her 😀

  2. Liz May 7, 2013 at 7:19 pm #

Miley killed it! She was definitely my favorite of the night.

  3. anjos May 7, 2013 at 5:17 pm #

The dress would look great if her hairstyle was actually punk. This looks more like one of those awful 90s boy band haircuts.

  4. Jokzan Cordova May 7, 2013 at 4:09 pm #

    HOT MESS! head to toe!

  5. Moxie May 7, 2013 at 3:48 pm #

Good in theory, but the dress looks really cheap. And the hair looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket.

  6. irina May 7, 2013 at 1:25 pm #

Amazing! One of the very few who got the message this met was about punk…in the end it’s about doing something different right?

    • Cascia May 7, 2013 at 3:59 pm #

      +10

  7. Amy May 7, 2013 at 12:12 pm #

I think she looks good. She’s only 20 so she can rock the crazy hair.

  8. e May 7, 2013 at 10:40 am #

I never thought I would say this but I love this look. Usually, I find her utterly try-hard but this was the perfect occasion for her to showcase her love for everything punk.
I also don’t mind the hair, perfect for the theme.

  9. Kat May 7, 2013 at 10:14 am #

Easily one of the best dressed of the event. If the theme is punk you are allowed (nay you are expected) to do something crazy with your hair. Wild and daring was the way to go, too many played it save and seeing all the bashing of those who made an effort to follow the theme makes me understand why we got so many utterly lame outfits.

  10. Ioana May 7, 2013 at 8:59 am #

Is that piece of material a “dress”? Ha-ha-ha.

I thinks it’s horrible. I don’t mind the hair. But that thing she’s wearing is ridiculous.

  11. Gabby M May 7, 2013 at 6:58 am #

I wonder if she wanted all of us to hate her hair so we would talk about her, or if she actually thought this looked good. She reminds me of a backstreet boy. Tragic really cuz that dress is spot on with the event

  12. jas May 7, 2013 at 5:53 am #

terrible hair. what was she thinking.
maybe a darker lippy and definitely needs a big shiney necklace

  13. Joy May 7, 2013 at 5:42 am #

I think this could have worked. But the hair is HORRIBLE. She seriously needs to stop trying SO hard. I think this is a good look for the punk theme.

  14. Elle May 7, 2013 at 5:22 am #

Yes Kate Moss has already done this!

  15. kim May 7, 2013 at 5:15 am #

Miley is so punk it hurts. I love everything about this pic.

    • Mandy May 7, 2013 at 10:26 am #

+2 Thank god someone had the guts to push the boundaries

  16. Jennifer A. May 7, 2013 at 4:30 am #

I’ve been waiting for someone to wear Marc Jacobs tonight! I mean, come on, punk is a huge part of his history! This isn’t my favorite look with everything coming together to equal “expected,” but I applaud Miley for at least going for theme.

  17. Prudence May 7, 2013 at 4:27 am #

I completely disagree about the hair…this is the MET GALA, nothing needs to be toned down especially with a theme like punk. I even wish her dress had more going on. all in all this is one of the best of the night.

  18. Sally May 7, 2013 at 4:26 am #

Actually, this is an excellent modern take on Punk fashion. Especially her hair.

  19. EmmaWoodhouse May 7, 2013 at 4:22 am #

I remember strongly dislike a Kate Moss fishnet dress of a while ago…I’m not enamored by dark fishnet (or any fishnet, actually, it’s not a texture I fancy) over a pale color…Miley’s dress is not the worst I’ve seen, and it definitely goes with the theme, so I’ll tolerate it for that. However, her HAIR is a travesty. Punk or not, it’s just terrible. She looks like a blonde Chuckie Finster from Rugrats.

  20. Henrique May 7, 2013 at 4:21 am #

This is a BIG YES for me.

  21. june May 7, 2013 at 4:11 am #

the hair while terrible actually sells the look as punk for me. (i kind of hate all of it, but props to her for really going for the theme)

  22. Lyo May 7, 2013 at 4:10 am #

Hairstyle need to be toned down one or three degrees…
And I kinda of wished she’d used the runaway shorter version…

  23. R May 7, 2013 at 4:10 am #

“The spiky ‘do is a bit over the top…” attitudes like this and the following laughing comments are why the Gala has been so tame, and thus lame, in recent years. No one wants to push boundaries. Everyone’s too worried about the best dressed list.

Thank you, Miley, for actually doing something and showing that it’s not always about being conventionally pretty. You’ve got guts, kid.

    • Ana May 7, 2013 at 4:22 am #

Exactly what I thought!!! At keast she was one of the few who actually took a risk and tried to push the boundaries. Most of the other looks have nothing punk about them and are just plain boring. In this case I rather enjoyed her styling and think she nailed it. The hair is what makes this look.

      • Ana May 7, 2013 at 4:24 am #

        oops I meant least*

    • Beta May 7, 2013 at 8:08 am #

      +1 agree on all points

    • Rashmi May 7, 2013 at 8:11 am #

+1. She really PUNKED it up!

      • Alicat May 7, 2013 at 12:00 pm #

Fantastic!! I agree. I could see Deborah Harry in this dress. Punk hair was a mess. That was the whole idea.

    • dee May 7, 2013 at 2:39 pm #

I was thinking the same thing. The hair makes this punk and I think she looks good.

    • fromchi-town May 7, 2013 at 5:49 pm #

+1 I agree with your comment. She took a risk, at least she made an effort with the theme. And for that I applaud her.

  24. Christine May 7, 2013 at 4:07 am #

She nailed this look. For the theme, she killed it! J’adore.

  25. justme May 7, 2013 at 4:06 am #

She looks like a member of Sum 41, I have tears in my eyes.
I’m not surprised though, subtlety has never been her forte. So, of course, she took the theme that far.

    • Mimi May 7, 2013 at 4:11 am #

YES YES thank you that’s who she looks like I’ve been staring her picture for a while now trying to figure it out

    • NovuyoM May 7, 2013 at 9:26 am #

Nailed the description and made me laugh.
I admire the ambition but sometimes she really does the most in a Rita-esque try hard way.

    • snowlion May 7, 2013 at 1:15 pm #

      Hahahahaha!

  26. Yeliz May 7, 2013 at 4:05 am #

I’m sorry but this dress, or a piece of fabric, looks SO cheap. I hate it.

    • gabis May 7, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

I totally agree. The dress is just plain awful and so is her hair. I hate this look head to toe.

  27. Pedro May 7, 2013 at 4:05 am #

    She looks like Beetlejuice.

    Terrible!

  28. McKenzie May 7, 2013 at 4:04 am #

    Protozoa wants his hair back.

  29. Rafael May 7, 2013 at 4:02 am #

    Can’t stop laughing!

  30. Cashawna May 7, 2013 at 4:01 am #

I love it I could see this on the runway in the 90’s punk era and I even love the crazy hair she nailed it

  31. Rafael May 7, 2013 at 4:01 am #

    Can’s stop laughing!

  32. Emma May 7, 2013 at 4:01 am #

She looks like a child wanting to draw attention. She was only 20 years like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.

  33. Chloe May 7, 2013 at 4:01 am #

    It’s actually this look

  34. molly May 7, 2013 at 3:59 am #

Didnt Kate Moss wear this first?
Miley looks terrible, theme does not equal costume, someone should have told her that.

    • Daria May 7, 2013 at 10:00 pm #

Yo, it’s called the Costume Gala for a reason.

  35. Stephanie May 7, 2013 at 3:58 am #

She ruined it with that bird nest of a hairstyle.

    • Noemi May 7, 2013 at 7:07 am #

I totally agree, she could look great. Such a pity.

    • Charlotte May 7, 2013 at 8:51 am #

I agree. This hairstyle is ridiculous and unnecessary.

    • Jess2 May 7, 2013 at 12:29 pm #

I agree also. The hair is just silly.

    • Liz May 7, 2013 at 7:20 pm #

I think the hairstyle was what made it perfect. The gown is quite subtle, so the hair gave it a nice edge.

      • the (un?)social butterfly May 7, 2013 at 7:46 pm #

Absolutely agree. I say more: she´s my best dressed. To me, she was the only one who managed to look beautiful while staying on the theme and having fun all at the same time.

    • Parvati May 8, 2013 at 12:37 am #

      I agree.
