Ginnifer Goodwin in Tory Burch – 2013 Met Gala

Ginnifer Goodwin is never one to shy away from expressing herself through fashion. And at Monday night’s Met Gala in New York City, the ‘Once Upon a Time’ actress hit the red carpet illustrating the event’s ‘PUNK: Chaos to Couture’ theme through her own eyes.

Shimmering in gold sequins thanks to Tory Burch, Ginnifer’s gown tamed the gilded glamour with a leather trim neckline and a black tulle hem.

The leather waistband whittled the actress’s waist to show off her figure while the rest of her look paid homage to the punk era.

Turning her normally cute pixie cut into a messy, bedhead style, Ginnifer focused on her eyes with a look that was 100% punk: heavy lash-to-brow black eye shadow and defined brows.

Ginnifer styled her red carpet look with heels and a box clutch also by Tory Burch and an ever so punk pewter earring in only one ear.

What do you think of her look: spot on, or too punk around the eyes?

I would hope even a raccoon would have better taste than this.

While I don’t fault her for going full punk beauty wise- I think she needed to be more daring with her entire look- her dress is too tame…ginnifer has sported some daring makeup looks before, so I think why not go all the way make up and fashion wise. she needs to really own it-and carry it with confidence- this is the perfect event for a risky look after all.

  4. glenn May 7, 2013 at 16:57 #

The only thing in my mind is “Mapache” eyes !

  5. Moxie May 7, 2013 at 15:58 #

The makeup and hair are punk, but the dress is too sweet. Not one of my faves.

Ginnifer can do no wrong. I love her style – those eyes are perfect for the theme. She’s rocking punk and having fun.

  7. Solveig May 7, 2013 at 12:24 #

The make-up is pretty cool, it’s the dress I don’t like.

  8. Amy May 7, 2013 at 12:16 #

The dress is meh but everything else is on point

  9. vivian May 7, 2013 at 12:09 #

its met gala + the theme. she rocks it.

  10. Gabby M May 7, 2013 at 09:53 #

these eyes are actually really cool… but just had to go with a full black something, prolly a jumpsuit, that wouldve worked but with this… no…

  11. Anna May 7, 2013 at 09:43 #

    Loving it!!

  12. Charlotte May 7, 2013 at 08:59 #

    Ridiculous !

  13. Natalie May 7, 2013 at 06:29 #

Terrible. The makeup and hair might work on someone else but not her. The dress is just ok only.

  14. Aline May 7, 2013 at 06:25 #

She always seems try hard to me and that’s got a lot to do with her pose. But, for the first time, I think her attitude matches a look.
I like this a lot, heavy makeup and all. She’s sticking to the theme while looking glamourous and fierce. Plus, the gown is amazing. Thumbs up.

Perfectly punk!!! Appears that not only can she act..she reads invitations too!!!!!

  16. AG May 7, 2013 at 04:26 #

I hate this look! And it’s actually not even the (dreadful) eye makeup that I hate most. The dress itself is just awful. The combination of leather, sequins and tulle is complete mess, not to mention the hideous sleeves and unflattering fit.

  17. sam May 7, 2013 at 03:44 #

she does not decide her makeup nor what she wears she can choose only from those given to her as options and from those she most likely choose the best one. As for her makeup it wasn’t up to her.

  18. Nat May 7, 2013 at 03:35 #

I actually liked this look. I think the make up is overdone but overall and comparing to the others I think she is on my best dressed list.

  19. CreoleLady May 7, 2013 at 03:08 #

The makeup is ridiculous. Half of the attendees look like drag queens.

  20. Mari May 7, 2013 at 03:07 #

    Oops strong I meant

  21. toyosi May 7, 2013 at 02:45 #

She kills it with the make-up.I just wish the dress had been strapless, I think that would’ve given it more edge, the sleeves feel girly for me.

  22. Yeliz May 7, 2013 at 02:38 #

The eye makeup looks so awful, but I’m not really loving the gown either. The only thing that works for me is her hair.

  23. Fashionmint May 7, 2013 at 02:37 #

    now this is Punk !

I think this is a special night. She is allowed to do this. Maybe the brows are too string formy liking.

  25. michaboa May 7, 2013 at 02:27 #

I love the overly dramatic make-up. Finally, we’re getting some punk and personality on the carpet.

    • Emily May 7, 2013 at 03:12 #

Spot-on for a theme-appropriate look, and I am not someone who usually appreciates dramatic looks.

  26. justme May 7, 2013 at 02:26 #

The eye makeup is dreadful, there were other options to look punk. I feel like her hair and earring were enough tbh.

I don’t like the dress either. Sequins, leather AND tulle?

  27. Christine May 7, 2013 at 02:26 #

That is way too much eye makeup.

  28. EmmaWoodhouse May 7, 2013 at 02:25 #

I’m on the love side. Yes the eye makeup is crazy, and I might have gone a little lighter, but it’s with the theme and the rest of her look is so great that I think she worked the risk! The hair was very well executed, much better than Nicole Richie’s, for instance. And I LOVE the dress. Absolutely love it. It’s so pretty. She’s in my top 5!

  29. Vi May 7, 2013 at 02:25 #

She is great. Love her. Don’t forget the one earing!

  30. Stephanie May 7, 2013 at 02:22 #

Hm, there’s lots of possibilities for edgy makeup and it’s unfortunate she chose this look because it does her no favours. I do appreciate that she embraced the theme though!

  31. Pedro May 7, 2013 at 02:22 #

    Omg terrible!

    Trashy and messy

  32. Prudence May 7, 2013 at 02:21 #

you mean not enough punk in the dress.

  33. Nat39 May 7, 2013 at 02:21 #

This is once again a failed attempt to icorporate the punk elements into the look, it looks completely wrong.

  34. Tori May 7, 2013 at 02:20 #

This is amazing (esp. for the event). She looks like punk-glam Cleopatra

    • EmmaWoodhouse May 7, 2013 at 02:33 #

      Wow, that’s a perfect descriptor!

    • Anj May 7, 2013 at 03:16 #

Agreed. I can always count on her to bring her A-game when it comes to her makeup and hair. It’s not so complementary to her choice of dress but I love her dress to much to care. She’s one of the few who actually took advantage of the theme no matter how wild the effect.

    • Yasmine May 7, 2013 at 04:48 #

O.M.G bang on: punk glam Cleopatra!

I LOVE THIS, finally something interesting and new, for awhile I was soooo bored and all of the sudden this. beautiful.

    • Noemi May 7, 2013 at 07:02 #

I agree with you. The eye make-up reminds me Cleopatra. I think she looks great, and I love her hair.

    • Jess2 May 7, 2013 at 13:55 #

Excellent description! Couldn’t have said it better. I love this, Ginny always knows how to bring it!

    • dee May 7, 2013 at 16:07 #

I agree, I think she is rocking this.

  35. j (DressMe4Less) May 7, 2013 at 02:19 #

    This reeks of desperation.

    • Kate May 7, 2013 at 02:44 #

      My thoughts exactly.
The dress + hair + accessories alone would’ve evoked the punk theme. And she probably would’ve been one of my favorites without that eye makeup.
It’s not punk. It’s hideous. Smokey eyes to that extreme only serves to make your eyes look small and beady.

    • jas May 7, 2013 at 06:01 #

      haha i agree
