Loewe Fall 2012

For Spring, Stuart Vevers gave us soft, buttery leather in neutral colours. For Fall 2012 it was black, black and more black, with a tough edge, a lot of attitude, whilst still staying true to the brand’s heritage.

Stuart described the Loewe woman as noble and aristocratic. He explained that black was heavily featured as he felt it gave the collection a feeling of strength and boldness.

We saw sumptuous coats and jackets in many guises, fur with leather trims, wool with leather pockets, bi-colour haircalf and wool jackets, boxy leather coats with pocket details, shearling-lined capes and a surprising addition of bomber jackets which I loved as it gave the collection a more easy off-the-cuff feel and a youthful touch.

Leather skirts – some with laser cut details, some textured and some pleated –were presented alongside nappa leather pleated dresses and wool separates and silk dresses.

In a sea of black, there were pops of baby pink, navy blue and dark brown.

Key accessories were the lizard wedges (I loved the pink ones), and of course the bags.

The standouts for me were the ‘Arco Baroque’ bag, the pink-lizard ‘Amazona’ clutch and the ‘Amazona Baroque 35’ bag.

Before the Loewe Spring 2012 presentation I was invited backstage for a sneak peek and to meet the designer behind the Spanish brand, Stuart Vevers.

Stuart believes being British works to his advantage as he is constantly finding inspiration from his new base in Madrid.

For Spring 2012 he was inspired by Spanish architecture to create the tiled prints. He wanted the prints to feel luxurious, so each garment has a different print, despite this being an expensive process.

Stuart showed me the leather pieces which are very light and soft while the jackets are reversible with suede on the inside.

Other leather pieces have cut-out details, prints, perforations or added chiffon details in order to keep them fresh and interesting.

Stuart showcased gorgeous feminine silhouettes on a colour palette of terracotta, sea blue, ash grey, navy and gold.

Ladylike fitted suede dresses, sophisticated pencil skirts, jackets, coats and blouses made up this very elegant collection.

Key accessories included platform shoes and, of course, gorgeous bags. We saw perforated shoulder bags, luxurious leather totes and wristlet clutches.

Models wore their hair sleek straight behind their ears with smoky eyes and a dark red lip colour.

The newest celebrity ‘IT’ bag on the block is the Loewe Flamenco bag which was presented during the Spring 2011 collection.

The nappa leather Flamenco bag stands out because of its variety of colours, drawstring opening and – in some cases contrasting coloured – tassels.

This bag would be sure to jazz up any look.

Yasmin le Bon, Claudia Schiffer and Jessica Alba opted for bold colours, whilst Mila Kunis carried a more conservative bronzed colour.

Other celebs seen carrying this bag include Freida Pinto, Leigh Lezark, Emily Blunt and Leighton Meester.

The Loewe Flamenco bag comes in a range of colours which has me shuffling from the nude to the purple in a failed attempt to pick a favourite.

Matches Fashion have narrowed down the options, as they have this bag available in green, purple and orange.

Jessica Alba has been spotted around LA carrying a new bag.

Her Loewe Amazona bag has a neutral mink colour with pink and white detailing. The bag seems to go well with pretty much anything she wears.

She was first spotted carrying the bag whilst shopping with her daughter wearing a white top, khaki pants, a taupe cardigan and a statement necklace.

The second time was leaving the hairdressers wearing a striped top with Paige Denim Venice crop pants and colourful sandals.

Malin Akerman was one of the many stars to walk the red carpet at the Montblanc charity cocktail party hosted By The Weinstein Company last night in LA.

She opted to wear this burgundy suede Loewe Spring 2010 mini dress with black panels on the side and a pleated skirt.

My first thought was “no…it makes Malin look really bottom heavy”.

But it started to grow on me very quickly.

I love the fun nature of this dress, it’s not a predictable choice and I love the Fall colour.

The only downside are the heels. The runway shoes would’ve been preferred.

We don’t see the Spanish brand that often on the red carpet, but Victoria Beckham and Sienna Miller are fans.
