2017 BET Awards Red Carpet Roundup

For better or worse, there were many more attention-stealing looks at the 2017 BET Awards in LA on Sunday night (June 25)—many of which garnered stares for all the wrong reasons.

Dascha Polanco: White-hot was the M.O. for the ‘Orange Is The New Black’ star in her Bishme R. Cromartie pantsuit. The plunge made it typically sexy, but that architectural ruffle was like fashion’s version of whipped cream on top.

Sasha Lane: The young starlet has not shied away from directional looks—or tribal makeup—and this Proenza Schouler Fall 2017 ensemble styled with a Sergio Rossi ‘SR1’ sandal and silver python Proenza Schouler ‘Curl’ clutch strongly continued in that experimental vein. Those who don’t love this look will likely only see trash bag-inspired pants. Regardless, I wish the sheer top had fit her better.

Tamar Braxton: To go with her platinum ’do, Tamar wore rhinestones and see-through lace in this Walter Mendez gown that won’t pass the test for those with sheer fatigue syndrome. Was anyone else getting a strong Cher vibe?

2017 BAFTAs Red Carpet Roundup

More stars were also seen at the 2017 BAFTAs on Sunday (February 12) in London, England.

Hannah Bagshawe: Bringing more ethereal glamour to the red carpet, Hannah looked simply sensational in this fully embroidered Alexander McQueen dress.

Eddie Redmayne: Working a monochrome look from Dior Homme, Eddie was one of the best dressed men for me. Simple, elegant and spot on.

Daisy Ridley: This is one of my favourite dresses from the night actually. Roland Mouret knows how to do statement chic, and I love the mix of black, red and white, plus the floral print panels. There’s a lot going on, but it all works well together, including the Jimmy Choo ‘Tower’ pumps.

Solange Knowles In Gareth Pugh & Sportmax – FYF Fest 2015

Solange Knowles In Gareth Pugh - FYF Fest 2015

Solange Knowles was one of the performers at the FYF Fest 2015 at LA Sports Arena & Exposition Park on Sunday (August 23) in Los Angeles, California.

Portraying the lady in red, the singer donned a halter top by Gareth Pugh with Sportmax culottes and patent leather Missoni shoes.

As a performance piece this striking look provides plenty movement and visual impact, but did she go too far with the red eye makeup which has been dramatized for effect?

Rihanna In Gareth Pugh – Yahoo! Wireless Festival Day 3

Rihanna In Gareth Pugh - Yahoo! Wireless Festival Day 3

Rihanna was joined on stage by Jay-Z during her performance on Day 3 of the Yahoo! Wireless Festival, held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London on Sunday.

The singer wore a white cut-out bralette with a black leather Gareth Pugh suspender skirt featuring a two-way zip closure, an elasticized belt with a twist clasp, a racer-back panel with elasticized shoulder straps, and a slit at the back hem.

Her look was styled with some body bling, Balenciaga black sneakers and, strangely, a beanie, despite the soaring temperatures, with Lanvin crystallized snake-print sunglasses completing her look.

Rihanna Fenty 88

The day before, at T in the Park, Rihanna showcased her wild side, wearing a black-and-yellow football jersey with a ‘Fenty 88’ motif which she paired with matching shorts which was a custom outfit designed by Adam Selman.

She paired her look with Air Jordan 1 Retro 93 sneakers.

Both are great performance looks which Rihanna could just as easily have worn as street wear.

Li Yuchun In Gareth Pugh – ‘Cleopatra’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Li Yuchun In Gareth Pugh - 'Cleopatra' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

While ordinarily I would frown at the fact that Li Yuchun is not wearing a gown on the red carpet for the ‘Cleopatra’ Cannes Film Festival this evening, however, I love the boldness of the look.

I mean, how many other people could make this Gareth Pugh Spring 2013 look work? I can only think of one: Tilda Swinton, or possibly Evan Rachel Wood.

The unique look features a ruffled high-neck top with a dramatic flowing train and wide-leg pants.

I’m of two minds about the black shoes. On one hand it breaks up all the red – separating her from the red carpet. On the other, it feels like a safe choice when everything else was so daring.

It may not be to everyone’s liking, but she certainly got herself noticed.
