Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Before Camilla Belle my red carpet favourite was Jennifer Morrison, as she always looks so elegant on the red carpet.

We don’t see her as often on the red carpet, but she recently attended the after party for the Broadway opening of “The Miracle Worker” at Crimson in New York City.

She opted for a white Bottega Veneta Spring 2010 chiffon dress with a shimmering nude origami knot detail.

On the runway the knot detail stands strong. On Jennifer it falls a little flat.

I feel like her stylist played with it too much and the detail ending up losing it’s mojo, which is very unfortunate as this is a stunning dress.

I do however love her strappy sandals and Bottega Veneta clutch which perfectly complement the look.

Diamond Information Center Luncheon Honoring Carey Mulligan’s Academy Award Nomination

It’s been a very busy weekend for so many stars.

British actress Carey Mulligan attended the “Diamond Information Center Luncheon” which was held in her honour as Academy Award Nominee.

The star looked the most uncomfortable I’ve ever seen her on the red carpet wearing a yellow striped Bottega Veneta Spring 2010 dress.

I don’t like this on Carey. It dress feel more appropriate for a summer fete, plus it’s feel really inconsistent with looks we’ve previously seen from Carey.

This was definitely a stylish choice. I don’t believe Carey would choose this look as it’s way too girlie.

I can picture this on Paris Hilton. She loves a sunshine yellow.

This LBD by Gianfranco Ferre is more like it for Carey.

I’m also liking the smokey eye which I don’t think she’s sported before.

A Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton black suede clutch and strappy heels complete the look.

De Ja Vu Award

As much as Edie Falco looks good in this deep red Bottega Veneta Resort 2010 strapless gown, I’m REALLY disappointed that she didn’t do her red carpet homework.

Had she or her stylist done their homework, they would have known that the great Julianne Moore wore this same gown last year to the Chloe London Premiere.

For large events like this we shouldn’t see re-runs.

Best Dressed Award

I was a bit underwhelmed by this red carpet until I saw Diane Kruger.

Ever since I attended the Christian Lacroix Spring 2009 Couture show in January last year I’ve been praying to see this gown on the red carpet.

Diane more than does this stunning pink ombre gown justice. The colour really pops on the soggy red carpet on a cold and rainy night in LA.

I love the sleek old Hollywood hairstyle. She was really out to impress.

Her white Raven Kauffman Couture clutch matched the pretty white bow on the side of her dress.

Most Predictable Award

There would’ve been no prizes for guessing that Marion Cotillard would wear Christian Dior.

Style.com even predicted that exact dress she would wear.

Being the face of ‘Lady Dior’ helps, plus when we see her in Dior we always get spectacular results.

Her petrol green satin asymmetrical Spring 2010 dress has a thigh-high split with a black négligée peeping through.

Jimmy Choo ‘Drake’ sandals and Chopard jewels complete her look.

Biggest Shock Award

Courteney Cox walked the red carpet last night wearing a black strapless dress from Victoria Beckham’s Spring 2010 collection.

Like most pieces from VB’s collection the dress was well structured and had a ‘top to hem’ zipper along the back.

I liked the jeweled detail on the empire waist, and the chic updo Courteney sported.

Normally I don’t care much for Courteney on the red carpet, but she really surprised me by how great she looked.

She carried a black Jimmy Choo ‘Tube’ clutch.

Her husband actor David Arquette dutifully kept her dry from the pouring rain.

Best Couture Award

This is definitely one of those ‘better on screen look’s.  Unfortunately the picture isn’t doing Drew Barrymore any favours.

Her Atelier Versace Fall 2009 one shoulder champagne gown was stunning.

The nude corset was covered by a nude crystallized overlay, with two clusters of glass fringes on the shoulder and the hip.

Her hair was swept back as not to interfere with the details, as the actress wore Lorraine Schwartz jewels to complete her look.

It’s A Grower Award

I’ve been going back and forth with Julianne Moore.

I was just about to put her on the Worst Dressed list, when I decided that her Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2008 dress wasn’t as bad as I first thought.  Mostly because she looks so elegant.

The grey colour initially put me off this silk bustier gown, but I really like the pleated lace detailed neckline and her green Bvlgari earrings were magnificent.

Black suede Balenciaga stingray sandals complete the look.

Beautiful, Even When Slightly Wet Award

Chloe Sevigny would’ve been the most worried about getting her rose Valentino sleeveless gown wet as it would’ve deflated those beautiful ruffles.

But she was lucky to have a someone to help shield her dress from the rain.

Buccellati jewels complete the look.

Va Va Voom ‘Jessica Rabbit’ Award

Christina Hendricks has the most amazing body, which she always dresses so well.

She leaves me breathless in this stunning Christian Siriano Spring 2010 gown which was custom-made to hug those delicious curves.

She carried a Christian Loubuotin ‘Kephron’ silver clutch and wore Loree Rodkin jewels. Read more…

Carey Mulligan has yet to put a foot wrong on the red carpet.

This red Bottega Veneta Spring 2010 looks simple yet still chic on the young actress, who won Actress of the Year at this event.

Her look is paired with Sergio Rossi black stamped suede gladiators heels, and black Bottega Veneta origami patent clutch.

I’ve been missing a lot of drama from Eva Green recently.

She doesn’t disappoint on this occasion, as she wore this ultra dramatic red and black feather print Alexander McQueen cowl neck gown.

This is a head turning look, which the actress amps up with smokey eyes, tousled bed hair and a bold lip colour.

Definitely a contender for BDOTW.

Gemma Arterton didn’t get the “red” memo, as she opted for a classic LBD with a twist.

The twist was the poufy shoulders.

The dress fails to excite, but I love the hair and make-up.

“A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s” Benefit, New York

Whilst trying to keep up with Fashion Week, LeeAnn sent me a note to tell me to make sure I looked at the Dries van Noten Spring 2010 collection.

I’m glad she did because I instantly fell in love with the ethnic prints and the one-sleeved blazers.

I often wondered who would be the first to wear this collection, and that honour went to Julianne Moore.

She looked fabulous in this hard to pull off ensemble.

Her ethnic print wrap dress was paired with a black blazer trimmed with a white strip to complete this unusually chic look.

Granted it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it.

Wow.

Katharine McPhee blows me away wearing a Marchesa Fall 2009 one shoulder sculpted dress.

I’m even loving the hair with this look.

Either I’m coming down with something or Katharine just hit her first home run.

BDOTW contender.

Alexa Chung opted for a cheap yet chic Topshop studded one-shoulder dress paired with booties.

She arrived wearing a questionable leopard print coat.

‘Late Show With David Letterman’, New York

My first reaction was that I didn’t like Ashley Greene in this Bottega Veneta Resort 2010 striped suit, but after so many great red carpet dresses this look feels refreshing.

It also shows that both Ashley and her stylist are thinking outside the box, and not playing it safe.

My main problem is actually the striped shirt, because the suit is not so bad.

I think I would’ve loved this look if the shirt was a solid colour, or if Ashley had worn the same suit Penelope Cruz wore back in July.

London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, London

Anna Friel loves Antonio Berardi as she has worn his pieces many times before.

Not so many times that she needs an intervention like Leona Lewis does from Vivienne Westwood, but enough to know she appreciates his stunning designs.

The textured dress had an asymmetrical chiffon detail that moved beautifully on the runway.

Black pumps complete the look.

Christmas Illuminations Launch On The Champs-Elysees, Paris

Just last week I was complaining that we haven’t seen enough of Balenciaga’s Fall 2009 collection on the red carpet, and here we have Charlotte Gainsbourg upping the count to make 3 following Carine Roitfeld and Salma Hayek.

The actress arrived at this event wearing one of the printed plunging blouses paired with the lace bandeau, leather pants and peep-toe heels.

Aching cool as always.

“Brothers” New York Screening

For some reason I just can’t fall in love with Natalie Portman wearing this cute Jason Wu Spring 2010 strapless mini dress.

The dress has all the ingredients to make Natalie shine: the ruffles, the colour, the length and the contrasting waist belt, but it gets no love from me and I can’t figure out why.

The actress paired her dress with Aldo purple heels.

Emma Roberts opted for a Miu Miu Resort 2010 summery dress brought down with thick tights.

Navyboot Store Opening, Germany

Monica Cruz hasn’t yet met a Herve Leger bandaged dress she didn’t like.

This is 3 in a row.

Before Cheryl Cole, Cat Deeley was the nations sweetheart.

The TV presenter arrived at this event wearing Givenchy Holly strappy leather heels with a Preen Matt Lightening dress.

If you are thinking the dress looks a bit awkward, that’s because the thick strap on Cat’s right shoulder – as we are looking at it – should be on her left shoulder.

Regardless she still looks fabulous.
