Michelle Obama In Cushnie et Ochs – 2017 ESPYS

Michelle Obama canny knack of sending shivers down my spine continued at the 2017 ESPYS on Wednesday (July 12).

Naturally I would’ve loved this sleek look more had she opted for this Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2017 dress with the embellishments, yet I still have a fond affiliation with this minimally cut, clean and contemporary design.

Hearts on Fire diamond stackable rings, Jennifer Fisher earrings and patent pumps round out a look worthy of a modern first lady.

The Obamas hosted a state dinner at the White House in Washington, DC on Friday (September 25) for Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.

Giving a nod to her guests, Michelle Obama made a stunning entrance onto the red carpet wearing a custom black mermaid gown featuring a rather sexy v neckline and tulle sleeve accents by Chinese-American designer Vera Wang.

Evening without my new found appreciation for all things black, this took my breath-away.

From the being perfectly tailored to contour the body, the enchanting design and the longer tousled waves, I love that Michelle is serving up old Hollywood glamour here.

Are you equally blown away?

Michelle Obama In Michael Kors – Fourth of July at the White House

Michelle Obama In Michael Kors - Fourth of July at the White House

President Barack Obama, accompanied by First Lady Michelle Obama, hosted an Independence Day event for military personnel and White House staff on the South Lawn of the White House on Saturday (July 4) in Washington, DC.

Michelle wore a Michael Kors Spring 2015 halter dress rendered in eye-catching pink gingham check with metallic kitten heels.

I love how the flattering fit-and-flare silhouette offers a casual, laid-back look which was perfect for the event while still maintaining plenty of First Lady finesse.

Even if you’ve come to associate this classic print with Dorothy from ‘The Wizard Of Oz’, gingham has been quite a hit with celebrities lately. For me the print will always bring to mind summer picnics.

You may remember that Freida Pinto wore this same dress in green recently.

Michelle Obama In Mary Katrantzou & Christopher Kane – ‘Let Girls Learn Initiative’ & Downing Street Visit

Michelle Obama In Mary Katrantzou & Christopher Kane - 'Let Girls Learn Initiative' & Downing Street Visit

Michelle Obama made two stops on Tuesday (June 16) in London, England, first attending a meeting for the ‘Let Girls Learn Initiative’ at the Mulberry School for Girls before heading to 10 Downing Street for a visit.

‘Let Girls Learn Initiative’: The First Lady brought a bold splash to the meeting in her custom Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2015 printed frock. Plain black pumps ensured all focus was on the dress, with a bouquet of flowers coincidentally bringing a lovely final touch to her look.

Downing Street Visit: Changing into a Christopher Kane custom-embroidered floral sticker dress, inspired by the Pre-Fall 2015 Collection, she maintained her colourful outlook that was unfortunately not similarly reflected in her black Jimmy Choo ‘Mei’ pumps.

Of the two looks, I preferred her first, as the adorable Christopher Kane frock echoed her London arrival look in that it landed a bit too far on the twee side for me.

Michelle Obama In Preen – London Arrival

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 15: First Lady Michelle Obama arrives with daughters Malia Obama (C) and Sasha Obama (R) and her mother Marian Robinson(behind Michelle) at Stanstead airport on June 15, 2015 in London, England. The First Lady is travelling to London with her daughters, Malia and Sasha and her mother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, to continue a global tour promoting her Let Girls Learn Initiative.  During the visit she will meet with students at a girl's school to discuss how the UK and U.S. are working together to expand girl's education around the world. Michelle Obama arrived at Stanstead airport for a visit to London, England on Monday (June 15) with her daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, to continue a global tour promoting her Let Girls Learn Initiative.

She indulged her love of bright hues in a Preen buttercup-yellow frock with blue lace overlay paired with nondescript Jimmy Choo ‘Match’ black pumps.

While the colours were a fresh delight, the look could slightly fall into the twee territory for the First Lady.

I could have easily seen Malia wearing this dress on a separate occasion. Here, her sunflower-printed alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet frock was an adorable choice, accented with cornflower-blue flats that matched her mother’s ensemble.

Michelle Obama In Tadashi Shoji – White House State Dinner

Michelle Obama In Tadashi Shoji - White House State Dinner

Michelle Obama attended the State Dinner in honour of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife, Akie Abe, on Tuesday (April 28) at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Regal in royal purple, the FLOTUS wore Octavia Spencer’s go-to designer in a Tadashi Shoji gown featuring tonal, feathery lace embroidery at the bodice cascading into beautiful, frothy layers of tulle.

Seeing this look on the runway made me crave the more fairy-like, diaphanous sheer effect of the original confection. But the dress was necessarily lined for the First Lady and the event.

Regardless, this offering still sees Michelle mixing refined elegance with fanciful femininity for a softer side to the more structured silhouette she occasionally favours.

A loosely undone updo and natural makeup contributed an effortless finishing touch to her entrance.

Michelle Obama In Zac Posen – BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’

Michelle Obama In Zac Posen - BET's 'Black Girls Rock!'

Michelle Obama attended the BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ event at NJ Performing Arts Center on Saturday (March 28) in Newark, New Jersey where she received a standing ovation for her powerful, inspirational speech.

After wearing so much colour and prints during her tour of Asia last week, some might be relieved that the First Lady opted for a white, off-the-shoulder, knee-length dress from Zac Posen’s Fall 2015 collection, which marries classic elegance with contemporary design.

I love how the bustier gives this look a hint of sex appeal and the styling of the look, which included silver jewels and Jimmy Choo pumps, complemented the delicate embellishments on her frock.

I’m sure there will be some debate about her shoulders being on display, but I think she looks undeniably chic from head to toe and even as a lover of colour and print, I think this look beats all of her looks from the Asian tour.

Michelle Obama’s Tour Of Asia

Michelle Obama's Five-Day Tour Of Asia

United States First Lady Michelle Obama arrived in Japan last week for a three-day visit, as part of a drive to promote girls’ education around the world, before heading to Cambodia for two days. Wearing a range of designers, she dynamically showed her love of bold colours and prints—and her ability to wear them confidently and effortlessly.

Look 1: Michelle couldn’t have made a better first impression upon arrival at Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport on Wednesday (March 18), waving to onlookers in a citron-yellow Kenzo printed frock that had me at hello. The colour was glorious on her and so, too, was the box-pleated, voluminous skirt. Some might say the statement metallic belt was a bit too much, but I would say it added an artsy edge. I’m glad she chose the directional Japanese label—and that she wore it without a tinge of try-hard.

Look 2: On Thursday (March 19), FLOTUS attended the Japan-U.S. Joint Girls Education Event at the Iikura Guest House in Tokyo. She was radiant in an Altuzarra custom dress coat from the Spring 2015 collection with a burnt-orange, lotus-inspired stencil print; a motif likely selected to pay homage to her Japanese tour.
