Get The Look: Marion Cotillard’s Met Gala Glamour

"Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala - ArrivalsMarion Cotillard stunned on the red carpet on Monday’s Costume Institute Gala at the Met.

While her beautifully intricate navy Christian Dior dress wowed both onlookers and attendees, it was her classic and elegant makeup that truly made the full look exceptional. Seeking inspiration from bombshells of the past, celebrity makeup artist, Christophe Danchaud created a look that was both timeless and ultra-luxurious.

“The dress makes a graphic statement and we complemented it with glowing skin, iridescent eyes and richly pigmented lips,” says makeup artist Christophe Danchaud.

Here is how you can recreate this beautiful look:

Face (complexion): To begin, Christophe prepped Marion’s skin Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum. He followed with Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in 1.5 and Hourglass Corrective Concealer in Pearl. To finish the skin and give it a glowing from within look, Christophe applied Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light all over the face. The dusting of this powder along the skin created a flattering soft-focus effect.

Cheeks: Keeping in line with the skin’s luxurious glow, he applied Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta. The golden fuchsia tone of the blush gave the cheek a perfect touch of color and radiance.

Eyes: Using Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow in Exhibition, he began applying the shimmering lilac shade to the entire eye lid area. He then proceeded to blend the dark mauve shade in the duo palette close to her lash line. To lighten and brighten the look, Christophe used a gold pigment on the lids as well. Moving to the lashes, he applied several generous coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Brows: To frame Marion’s face, Christophe defined her brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette.

Lips: To achieve that richly pigmented lip color, Christophe began by lining lips with Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner in Raven (Summer Launch) and followed with a mixture of Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Raven and Muse, all of which created a sensual orange red shade.

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior Couture – 2014 Met Gala

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior Couture - 2014 Met Gala

Marion Cotillard is stunning on the red carpet for the 2014 Met Gala on Monday (May 5) in New York City.

The gorgeous actress wore Dior Spring 2014 Couture with Dior Couture shoes.

The intricate navy dress fits Marion flawlessly. The low cut is balanced out with a lovely full tea length skirt, drawing attention to her quirky shoe choice. I am not crazy about these, but for a style innovator like Marion, she pulls them off.

This elegantly simple look is tied together with a glossy red lip and a sideswept updo.

Marion is such a class act and never settles for simple on the red carpet, which I admire about her. Although she looks lovely, I would’ve been more excited to see her in something dramatic and memorable. This would’ve been better off at a movie premiere and not at this event. What do you think?

Marion Cotillard For Lady Dior 2014

Marion Cotillard lends her beauty to the Lady Dior campaign.

The French actress was captured by Jean-Baptiste Mondino with the iconic bag, wearing delicately feminine creations from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection.

Effortlessly gliding through the air, the Lady Dior on her arm – in fuchsia leather, brown crocodile or covered in a floral and graphic print – is an extension of who she is: timelessly elegant.

Who Wore Christian Dior Better…Marion Cotillard or Aura Garrido?

Who Wore Christian Dior Better Marion Cotillard or Aura Garrido

Marion Cotillard wore this colour-block Christian Dior Resort 2014 strapless dress with a rise-and-fall hemline to the ‘Blood Ties’ Cannes Film Festival premiere.

Sporting a voluminous bouffant, she styled the look with Chopard jewels and black ankle-strap Dior pumps.

Spanish actress Aura Garrido wore the same frock to the José María Forqué Film Awards earlier this month, opting for subtle Magerit jewels, white Ursula Mascaró pumps and a matching Jimmy Choo clutch featuring gold hardware.

Aura wins this for me as I love her sleek hairstyle and her accessories, preferring her white pumps over Marion’s black.

Brand Ambassador of the Year 2013 – Marion Cotillard for Christian Dior

Brand Ambassador of the Year - Marion Cotillard for Christian Dior

French star Marion Cotillard was Christian Dior most lavish representative, with a grand sum of 19 looks to her name over the past 12 months.

The face of Lady Dior, she wears the brand well, gracefully balancing designer Raf Simons’ sophisticated yet still-edgy offerings. Not that she didn’t have competition in the category, with Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence also working the Dior angle—sometimes more successfully than others.

That said, Marion started the year off with a bang, cementing an early spot on the best-dressed list with her risk-taking, citron-yellow couture gown at the 2013 BAFTA Awards that was breathtakingly bold and thereby unforgettable.

More Dior moments at the Met Gala, the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival soon followed, with the actress later wrapping up her 2013 designer run at the Marrekech Film Festival.

Rather regrettably for this year’s Dior-Marion match, she wavered as a pristine style steward of the brand, also landing the unfortunate award of Magnifique to Tragique 2013.

Magnifique To Tragique 2013 – Marion Cotillard

Magnifique To Tragique 2013 – Marion Cotillard

Would you believe this is the second time Marion Cotillard has received this award?

It may seem harsh, but if we were to chart her red carpet looks from the sublime Dior Couture gowns during awards season to the Marrakesh Film Festival looks it would depict a sharp decline.

Maybe we expect so much from Marion because she has delivered so magnificently in the past, but wearing tent-like dress after tent-like dress had us losing faith and wondering if she had a baby on board.

That was the reasoning behind her last style shift and, if you remember, that was also the reasoning behind Kerry Washington’s autumnal blip prior to her announcement.

Hopefully we will see a resurgence in 2014 and she’ll go back to being Miss Consistent.
