Madonna In Givenchy – 2015 Grammy Awards

Madonna In Givenchy - 2015 Grammy Awards_

Madonna may have been among the earlier arrivals for the 2015 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 8), but she certainly was not to be missed as she staked her sartorial claim on the red carpet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen the music icon on the scene, and she has come back with a bang. The icon who last year turned heads at the 2014 Grammys with a mannish suit, fedora, and a gold grill, went in an opposite yet no less arresting direction this year.

Her burlesque-inspired Givenchy ensemble this evening sees her returning to her more old-school Madge days. With this look, she could walk straight into the cabaret and hit the stage without making so much as a slight costume change.

The lace-encrusted, ribbon-accented, corseted bodysuit made use of every manageable bit of embellishment, even if it did prove just a teensy bit tight for those twins.

To accompany the theatrical piece, she left no accessory behind—from the fingerless arm gloves to the black fishnets and over-the-knee boots. Of course, her netted terrero-inspired hat, which sat atop retro platinum pin curls and a sultry cat-eye, was the icing on this dramatic layered cake of a look.

Was this leather-and-lace overload both over-the-top and oozing of extravagance? Yes. But this is Madonna and this is the Grammys. And this is how to get the night started on a memorable note.

Madonna In Miu Miu – WSJ. Magazine’s 2014 Innovator Awards

Madonna In Miu Miu WSJ Magazine's 2014 Innovator Awards

Madonna attended WSJ. Magazine’s 2014 Innovator Awards held at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday (November 5) in New York City.

I was surprised to see colours other than black in her Miu Miu Spring 2015 look, or frankly that she was wearing Miu Miu at all as she has been a devotee of all things Givenchy for a while.

Her look, which features a ruffled top and embroidered pencil skirt, was slightly adjusted from how we saw it on the runway, with the crocodile belt sitting high to make it, dare I say, more age appropriate.

Black opera gloves added a touch of drama to the look, with Miu Miu patent croc-print pumps adding a ladylike flourish.

Does she sell this look to you, or should she have stripped it back with the gloves?

Alicia Keys, Madonna & Joan Smalls In Givenchy – 9th Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball

Alicia Keys, Madonna & Joan Smalls In Givenchy - 9th Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball

The Keep A Child Alive Annual Black Ball held at Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday (October 30) in New York City turned out to be something of a Givenchy-fest.

Alicia Keys: The pregnant host, who looks ready to pop any day soon, looked divine wearing a sumptuous black satin off-the-shoulder empire-waist Givenchy Couture gown with shimmering silver straps custom made by Riccardo Tisci, who was also in attendance at this charitable event. Matching silver and onyx drop earrings and silver bracelets accessorized her look, with a pop of pink to the lips providing the finishing touch.

Madonna: The queen of pop was in the house, donning a corseted black frock with a delicate black lace skirt from Givenchy’s Spring 2015 collection styled with her signature crucifix, lace gloves, and leather boots which it took three people to help her get into.

Joan Smalls: While brown might not be our favourite red carpet colour, who can argue that Joan Smalls doesn’t look stunning in her Givenchy Spring 2015 keyhole gown with a smattering of shimmering embellishments? Factor in that dark-berry lip and you have me at her feet saying “We are not worthy”. What a goddess.

Madonna In Dsquared² – Great American Songbook Event Honoring Bryan Lourd

Madonna In Dsquared² Fall 2011 - Great American Songbook Event Honoring Bryan Lourd

Madonna also attended ‘The Great American Songbook’ event honouring Bryan Lourd at Alice Tully Hall on Monday (February 10) in New York City.

Keeping to her favoured colour black; the singer wore a Dsquared² Fall 2011 long black leather long sleeve button-down dress.

It’s all very dramatic; which is exactly what we’d expect from the Queen of Pop.

Madonna In Fausto Puglisi – Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged

Madonna In Fausto Puglisi - Miley Cyrus MTV Unplugged
Madonna was also giving us a giddy-up moment, alongside Miley Cyrus, at the ‘Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged’ performance at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood, California, which premiered on Wednesday (January 29).

The music mogul wore a Fausto Puglisi custom black silk button-down shirt with studded leather fringe, paired with black silk cady flared trousers.

The ensemble was crafted in Italy and featured a sparkling display of multi-colored crystals, which were hand-embroidered over hundreds of hours and applied to the lengths of each garment.

An embellished, black cowboy hat was a must here, along with a studded, gun-slinging belt and that fingerless glove we see reappearing on the songstress.

Without question, the look was influenced by traditional American western style, but Madge of course worked her inner cowgirl in her signature brand of high-wattage style. It’s hard not to love all the attitude radiating from this look.
