Met Gala Trend: Built-In Gloves

Met Gala Trend Built-In Gloves

Anti-establishment style was everywhere last night at the punk-themed 2013 Met Gala, where the ‘it’ list worked varying levels of sartorial subversion – from glam-rock to goth and grunge.

But there was also a select group of red-carpet rebels who armed themselves with one of the evening’s more unusual, nonconformist trends.

Their weapons of choice? Not spikes or studs, or even chainmail. Rather, they suited up in full-on punk protection mode with what can only be dubbed as glove-sleeves – full arm, hand and finger-covering extensions. (Practical, they are not.)

We saw these gown appendages in their most blatant form on a Givenchy-clad Kim Kardashian, who not only covered her baby bump in all-over floral, but also completely sleeved up in the moody, foreboding print.

The built-in glove extensions also appeared on Leelee Sobieski, who wore Christian Dior Couture and looked to be growing a gold-plated garden on her forearms and fingers.

It was Paloma Faith in a Michael Cinco design who gave us the best lesson in how to wear gown-gloves with her blood-red, ombre-effect masterpiece.

Is the trend worthy of a high-five, or is it outrageously out of hand?

Leelee Sobieski In Christian Dior Couture – 2013 Met Gala

Leelee Sobieski In Christian Dior Couture - 2013 Met Gala

Leelee Sobieski continued to show her allegiance to Raf Simons by donning a Christian Dior Couture look on the red carpet on Monday evening for the 2013 Met Gala in New York City.

The indie actress wore an unusual look consisting of a white strapless bustier gown with a black t-shirt featuring long sheer sleeves with gold embroidered gloves.

I would be lying if I said I loved the look, as it is not to my personal tastes, however, Leelee makes it work. Mostly by keeping things simple and also being the fashion risk-taker that she is.

Signature slick back locks, and a red pout completed her look.

The only other person I can see making this work is of course Tilda Swinton.

Love or loathe?

Leelee Sobieski In Christian Dior – Sidaction Gala Dinner 2013

Leelee Sobieski In Christian Dior - Sidaction Gala Dinner 2013

Leelee Sobieski struck a supermodel-esque pose on the red carpet for the Sidaction Gala Dinner 2013, held at the Pavillon d’Armenonville in Paris yesterday evening.

After taking in the Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture show this week, she donned a look from the Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection.

Wearing the most modern rendition of a ballgown, her look featured a black long-sleeved top and a full iridescent floral orange skirt.

I’m pretty sure the honour of wearing the first Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture dress will go to Marion Cotillard, maybe as early as this Sunday, but Leelee wore the first accessory.

The Christian Dior Spring 2013 Couture shoe looks like a pair of tights with a toe-cap and a heel.

Quite a genius idea and I can imagine they are quite comfortable. Looking at the close-up, the hosiery is an overlay to what I believe is a PVC shoe.

A slicked-back hairdo and a red lip colour completed her look.

I love how the look is so bold and serious on the top, while from the waist down it’s light, soft and feminine.

Leelee Sobieski In Christian Dior Couture – Christian Dior Spring 2013 Presentation

Many stars were seated front row at Raf Simons’ first ready-to-wear show for Christian Dior’s Spring 2013 presentation in Paris on Sunday, including LeeLee Sobieski.

The actress, who displayed her love for a Raf Simons creation once before, donned a look from the incredibly popular Dior Couture Fall 2012 collection.

Her very chic red wool coat dress with a waist-cinching gold waistband was styled with flawless makeup, including a red lip colour, a simple ponytail and Dior pumps.

Leelee Sobieski In Adam Kimmel – The Shops At Target Launch Party

Leelee Sobieski attended The Shops at Target Launch Party on Tuesday in New York City.

The indie actress wore a navy vintage Adam Kimmel long-sleeve jumpsuit with a lighter blue The Webster for Target blazer.

Her high-low look was accessorized with luxe accessories including black Hermes knee-high boots and an oversized two-tone Celine black bag.

On most people I would’ve possibly dismissed this look, but I find Leelee so intriguing, simply styled and effortless despite hating the boots.

I also find those piercing blue eyes and hot pink lips are mesmerizing.

When she was recently asked if she has a stylist, her response was, “Nope—it’s all me, on my own. I ask my husband’s (Adam Kimmel) advice too. But the mirror in my apartment’s a problem when I’m getting dressed—I still don’t have a full-length mirror, so I can never see my shoes in it. I usually end up standing on a chair just to see how they look.”
