Kerry Washington In Marchesa – 2013 Emmy Awards

Kerry Washington In Marchesa - 2013 Emmy Awards

Kerry Washington continued to show off her red-carpet best at the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards tonight at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

Marchesa’s romantic Spring 2014 collection was just begging for a red carpet, and the ‘Scandal’ actress complied by wearing one of designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman’s frothy, angelic confections.

The creamy-blush gown may have been bordering on over-the-top territory, what with its ribbon-like bodice, a flurry of floral appliques, shimmery beaded embellishment and that frothy long tulle train.

But Kerry managed to make it work, completing the effect with a wavy ‘do, a mauve lip, and a pearlized Edie Parker ‘Jean’ box clutch, all accented by Fred Leighton jewels.

Kerry Washington In Giambattista Valli – BAFTA LA TV Tea Party

Kerry Washington In Giambattista Valli - BAFTA LA TV Tea 2013

After a rare and disappointing misstep the last time out, I was happy to see Kerry Washington back on form while attending the BAFTA LA TV Tea Party presented by BBC America and Audi held at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday evening.

Like Allison Williams, Kerry wore a pretty floral frock from Giambattista Valli Resort 2014 collection which featured a black banded waist.

Matching croc-bronzed Jean-Michel Cazabat ‘Emma’ pumps, a Nancy Gonzalez clutch, and gold House of Lavande earrings, a chic half-up, half-down hairstyle completed her look.

The only thing I would change about this look is the waistband. I would either make it thinner, or remove it all together.

Kerry Washington In Halston Heritage – Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and SAG-AFTRA Celebrations of the Emmy Award Nominees

Kerry Washington In Halston Heritage - Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and SAG-AFTRA Celebrations of the Emmy Award Nominees

Kerry Washington attended the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and SAG-AFTRA celebration of the 65th Primetime Emmy Award Nominees held at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, California yesterday evening.

As you know, I have a huge girl crush on Kerry, so I will say this very slowly because even I can’t believe it. There. Is. Not. One. Thing. I. Like. About. This. Look.

Firstly, her pink Halston Heritage dress has too much going on, with the ruffles, the tiers and the hip-expanding skirt.

The white accessories feel very played out. After a summer of being forced to appreciate white pumps, I now feel very fatigued by them here.

Even as a lover of matchy-matchy accessories, the white Nancy Gonzalez ‘Croc Curve Razor’ clutch adds nothing to the look.

Hair and makeup will get a thumbs up, but I do not like anything from the neck down.

Kerry Washington For Flare October 2013

kerry-washington1

‘Scandal’ star Kerry Washington graces her second October issue, this time for Canada’s Flare Magazine.

She looks beautiful wearing a pink polka-dot coat and yellow polka-dot scarf from Miu Miu’s Fall collection with sexy stockings and white Christian Louboutin pumps on the cover shot by Ruven Afanador.

The photographer also captures Kerry wearing Jason Wu, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Maison Martin Margiela and Dior, while talk turns to fashion, childhood ambition, the love of acting, and why fans of ‘Scandal’ find themselves uncomfortable rooting for the mistress.

Here are some extracts from her interview. You can read more over at Flare.com.

On rooting for the mistress: “A lot of people have had an affair. Most people haven’t had an affair with the president of the United States. But they can relate to it… I had girlfriends calling me from week three [of Scandal] going, ‘I’m really uncomfortable. Why am I rooting for the mistress? I’m a married woman!’ And I would say, ‘It’s OK, it’s OK.’?… There are some ways you want to be Olivia Pope and some ways you want to do a major intervention for her.”

On her love of fashion: “The red carpet is good marketing. When you work so hard, you should stand behind the project in a way that magnetizes people. So I, like a good, only-child student, studied fashion and decided I was going to play that game, and fell in love with it, and with the artists and designers.”

On childhood ambitions: “I didn’t think I would do this for a living—because I didn’t know anybody who did. I come from an academic family, so I figured I would have a real job.”

On Olivia’s bad behaviour in season two: “I was like, [wailing] ‘I just don’t know how we’re gonna do this!’ ?I had just gotten back from the Democratic National Convention, where I’d done this speech about the importance of voter inclusivity and democracy and ‘We the People,’ and I come back and my character is spitting in the face of all of that.”

On the challenge of being an only child: “You feel like the pressure’s on you to live up to all of the dreams and expectations, because you’re it.”

On why she loves acting: “I love those moments that are few and far between, where you’re so deeply, deeply invested in an imaginary world that you truly forget yourself for a little while, and the only reality that exists is the reality of that scene. That’s like drugs to me,” she says. “And it is hard to find that high, but that’s what you work for.”

Front Row @ NYFW Weekend Catch Up

Front Row @ NYFW Weekend Catch Up

Here’s a quick catch up of the front row who caught my eye during New York Fashion Week this weekend.

Ciara @ Prabal Gurung: The singer wore a pretty Prabal Gurung embroidered angular insert dress with a flared silhouette styled with bondage boots courtesy of Casadei, which were presented during the designer’s Fall 2013 collection.

Solange Knowles @ Alexander Wang: What’s not to love about Solange’s outfit? The colour, the quirky glasses, the Wang Resort 2014 skirt, that bag and those sexy sandals…? Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it ALL works.

Rihanna @ Opening Ceremony: It’s been a while since we saw Rihanna front row at NYFW, as she tends to skip the shows and head to the after-parties. On Sunday she was front and centre at Opening Ceremony wearing a grey Zac Posen satin floral dress with Underground ‘Wulfrun’ creepers with a Lynn Ban choker. A part of me wants to say it’s ridiculous to pair such a pretty dress with creepers, but I have to say she sells it to me, as per.
