Get The Look: Sarah Hyland’s Chic Emmy Awards Bun

Sarah Hyland hairRyan Richman created Sarah Hyland’s beauty look for the 2014 Emmy Awards.

“As a team, we were inspired by old Hollywood glamour. We loved Sarah’s custom-made Christian Siriano dress. I never want to be too literal with inspiration so we kept the look soft and natural to keep it modern.”

He began by applying 3-4 pumps of Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment to her damp hair to add softness and shine without weighing it down and to protect it while blow drying.

Before blow drying each section, he applied a pump of Dove Frizz-Free Shine Serum to smooth frizz and flyaways.

Then he began blow drying large sections of hair using a large boar-bristle round brush, directing the hair away from the face. A boar-bristle brush is great for polishing and smoothing the hair while still maintaining body and some natural texture.

When styling a ponytail or bun you should blow dry the hair towards the centre point of where the hair will be put up, and use a straightening iron on medium heat to smooth any cowlicks or kinks around the hairline.

Next, he brushed the hair upwards towards the top of the head. He then used Dove Style+Care Extra Hold Hairspray as he was brushing to keep the hair in place. A great way to smooth flyaways while brushing is to spray hairspray directly onto the brush.

Then Ryan secured the hair in a ponytail with an elastic. To make tying your ponytail easier, bend over forwards and gather the hair instead of trying to reach high above your head.

To add texture to your bun, backcomb the ponytail with a brush and spray with hairspray. Finally, twist and wrap the hair into a bun and secure with bobby pins. You can pull out small pieces of hair with your fingertips or a rattail comb for an edgy undone look.

Get The Look: Zooey Deschanel’s Feminine and Fierce Emmy Awards Makeup

66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsCelebrity makeup artist Jorjee Douglass created Zooey Deschanel’s feminine and fierce look for the Emmy Awards, giving her a fun, youthful makeup look created by using Charlotte Tilbury products.

“Normally for Zooey I use a coral-coloured blush,” says Jorjee about how Zooey’s bright Oscar De La Renta gown encouraged her to try something new. “Charlotte Tilbury blush in Love Is The Drug gave Zooey just that subtle pop of pink that she needed!”

Here’s how to create the look.

Jorjee started by hydrating her skin to reduce any signs of dullness before hitting the red carpet with Charlotte’s Magic Cream – a product that helps treat and transform tired skin.
Then, she prepped her face and eyes with The Retoucher Conceal & Treat Stick, which helped Zooey’s eyeshadow glide on smoothly and easily when applied to the lids.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow was mixed together with foundation and lightly applied all over the face to create just the right amount of low-lit glimmer to what was otherwise a youthful, matte look made possible with the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder which helped to control shine.

Mixing-and-matching copper colours from two Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palettes in The Dolce Vita and The Golden Goddess ensured a pearly, beautifully radiant accentuated eye.

To make Zooey’s eyes pop, Jorjee first dusted the lash line with a liquid liner then used Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Colour Morphing Eyeshadow in Champagne Diamonds, with a Dark Pearl shade being used to accentuate the lash line by smudging the liner slightly.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blusher in Love Is The Drug was applied to create a youthful flush with a fresh finish.

Finally, Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Ibiza Nights was applied for a brilliant mirror-shine finish that helped to create a 3-dimensional, voluminous pout.

Hair Trend Spotting: Messy Braided Ponytails

Hair Trend Spotting Messy Braided Ponytails

Keeping your locks under control in the humid weather has never been easy; however, Nina Dobrev, Lucy Hale and Shay Mitchell found the perfect solution for their red carpet looks at the Teen Choice Awards: braided ponytails.

Last year braids were worn as tight and as sleek as possible, whereas this spring braids are going to be the complete opposite as this trend is more laidback and relaxed, reliving the romantic medieval style.

Opting for long, chunky, messy and romantic braids shows a much more youthful approach to a classic updo.

Other stars who have championed the messy, romantic braid this year, during Cannes, include Blake Lively and Eva Longoria.

Here’s how to create the look.

Create a side part and add texture with a wide-barrel curling iron, making sure to curl from the top. Lightly tease hair at the crown, then split your hair into two sections.

Keeping your hair on the side of the part, begin to braid by pulling a bit of hair from the outside of one section over to the centre of the other section, then repeat for the other side and continue until your braid is the desired length.

Once you’ve reached the bottom, fasten the braid with an elastic. Loosen the braid by lightly tugging on outer sections throughout.

Get The Look: Chloe Grace Moretz’ Teen Choice Awards Effortless, Bed-Head Hair

FOX's 2014 Teen Choice Awards - ArrivalsCelebrity hairstylist Gregory Russell worked with Chloe Grace Moretz for the 2014 Teen Choice Awards.

“We wanted to create effortless, messy, bed-head texture for Chloe’s Valentino look at the Teen Choice Awards”, said Gregory.

Here’s how to get Chloe’s look.

He first blew out Chloe’s hair with a ceramic brush and then parted and sectioned the hair in half. Spraying each section with Kevin Murphy Damage Manager, he then twisted the hair away from her face, holding the ends and hitting the twists with diffused heat from a Harry Josh Blow Dryer and Hot Sock attachment.

After cooling, he brushed out with his fingers and used a 1.25″ iron to curl in the opposite direction at random. He then loosened the waves more by pulling down the ends with his hands and hitting them with the diffused heat again for a more lived-in look.

Next, he sprayed her hair with Klorane Dry Shampoo for dry, messy texture, finishing with Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel through the ends and Kerastase Laque Couture Hairspray for hold.
