Red Carpet Fashion Awards

With the weather outside being so cold and miserable, this should brighten up your morning.

Emma Watson continues her stint as the face of Lancôme, channelling the perfect English Rose with an edge for the brand’s Spring 2013 collection.

The British actress wears ‘Baume in Love’ hot-pink ‘Rose Macaron’ lips, ‘Kohl in Love’ eyeliner in ‘Jade Crush’ rims her big brown bambi eyes and ‘Ombre In Love’ eye shadow also makes them pop, with ‘Pommettes d’amor’, a coral shade of ‘Blush In Love’, dabbed onto the apples of her cheeks.

The Lancôme ‘In Love’ collection, featuring lots of girlie vibrant shades, goes on sale nationwide on January 2.

Last season, the must-have product in every beauty junkie’s make-up bag was a BB cream – a tinted moisturizer-slash-primer-slash-anti-aging-serum.

So fans of the Beauty Balm will be pleased to learn that another multi-tasking product, aimed at colour correction, has just landed at beauty counters.

CC creams, aka Colour or Complexion Correction creams, are the latest skincare innovation cribbed from Asia and this year Chanel became the first international brand to jump on the bandwagon with their CC cream, Correction Complete SPF30PA+++.

While both products act as a tinted moisturiser and sunscreen in one, CC creams give more full, foundation-like coverage, masking discoloration, pimples, age spots and sallow skin while simultaneously tackling aging and brightening the skin with ingredients such as liquorice, vitamin C and antioxidants.

Makeup artist Kristee Liu, whose rock ’n roll clientele includes Cher, Pink and Alanis, says: ‘It’s a total improvement on the BB cream. CC creams are infused with skin-improving nutrients so they have long-term benefits such as improved skin texture, collagen renewal, diminished dark spots and brighter overall appearance.’

Vampy red lips may be a winter staple, but the cerise lip, a trend seen on the Spring 2013 runways, has already made its way onto the red carpet.

At Dries Van Noten, make up artist Peter Philips sent models out wearing Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in L’Exuberante. ‘I think fuchsia is more street… it’s edgier than red and has a more punk-rock feeling’, he explained.

At the Giles show, Lucia Pieroni for MAC applied a combination of foundation and powder as a base on the lip to cancel out the natural colour before filling them in again with MAC lip pencil in Embrace Me. ‘I’m obsessed with lips at the moment’, she said.

While some may shy away from such a bold hue, remember: a vivid lipstick wakes up your complexion instantly – a blessing in the cold winter months.

Choose a more orangey shade if your skin is olive-toned and a blue-based pink if your skin is pink-toned or dark.

For a softer look, dab it on with your finger rather than applying it straight from the tube.

She may have just turned 40, but Cameron Diaz somehow continues to look ageless. At last week’s UK premiere of her new film, ‘Gambit,’ the star looked stunning in a Stella McCartney dress with flawless skin, a nude lip and classic lined black eye.

Hairstylist George Northwood spoke to us about how he achieved Cameron’s girlish bun on the night.

‘My inspiration was something soft, girly and modern for the red carpet,’ he said. ‘First I rough dried the hair, scrunching for texture and volume using a Parlux dryer.’

‘I blow dried the fringe forward with a small round brush, rounding at the end to create a soft edge – part it where desired.’

‘Next I sprayed Redken Quick Tease, a backcombing lift finishing spray, throughout the roots excluding the fringe which I kept flat. I backcombed the hair at the roots all over, again excluding the fringe, using a carbon comb which keeps the hair static free.’

‘To copy this style, hold the hair into a pony then twist on itself and wrap into a bun. Then grip and pin it into place around the outside of the bun.’

‘Pull some bits out around the face and tong lightly for texture and wave definition. I recommend T3 tongs.’

‘Finally spray with Pureology Strengthening Control Zero Dulling Hair Spray and rough up the style a bit for a fresh, young tousled look.’

This evening I will be hitting the red carpet in Paris for the Carine Roitfeld for M.A.C. party, which celebrates their collaboration which launched in stores last month.

The dress code for this evening is ‘Black Tie, Smokey Eye’, a nod to Roitfeld’s beauty signature, a dramatic, smoky eye, and the C.R. for M.A.C. collection of chic colours and tools for recreating her aesthetic.

I will be live tweeting from the event, asking celebs that famous question, “Who Are You Wearing?” although I hope to know the answer already.

Follow me at @fashion_critic_ and @MACcosmetics for live tweets and Instagram pictures as celebs hit the red carpet. I will also be trying to zoom in on their smoky eyes.

The party gets started at 9.30pm European time, so join in the fun. I will be using the #LeBal hashtag.
