Jenny Packham Fall 2012

Jenny Packham was the only designer who could get me up at 9am on Monday morning after the BATFAs and Grammys marathon.

The designer, who has dressed everyone from Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge to Angelina Jolie, is always on my list of must-sees during Fashion Week.

As the models took to the runway through the smoke-filled exit with mellow jazz music playing in the background, it became very apparent why Dita Von Teese was in the front row.

With models’ hair styled into victory rolls and deep Bordeaux pouts, the designer showcased a 40s-inspired collection which reflected the mood of Film Noir.

The runway was filled with many red-carpet-worthy gowns, some with edgy silhouettes such as crystal and studded beading or exaggerated shoulders.

Plunging necklines and open backs showcased plenty of skin, but this collection wasn’t just for the temptresses.

Pretty pastel pieces showed that Jenny didn’t stray too far from her sweet, feminine aesthetic.

Alongside the gowns and cocktail dresses were jumpsuits with beaded collars, ladylike separates and feminine mini dresses in demure abstract prints.

Zac Posen Fall 2012

There are two things you can always expect from a Zac Posen show: Coco Rocha will open and close and we will be treated to high-octane, glamorous looks.

Even though E! were broadcasting their Grammy’s ‘Live from the Red Carpet’ show at the same time, there was no way I was going to miss Zac Posen’s Fall 2012 presentation with the Oscars just around the corner.

I made the right decision because there were many breathtaking demi-couture gowns with an Asian-inspired twist.

Impeccably cut skirt suits, cocktail dresses, body-conscious dresses and mermaid gowns in satin, silk, jacquard and brocade were so fitted that the models had to take tiny steps to prevent themselves from toppling over.

Geisha makeup and sleek updos with spiky crests added to the drama, as the designer took us on a romantic journey of old-Hollywood glamour.

Aside from the jaw-dropping gowns, the designer presented some daywear pieces including pant suits, silk ensembles accented with a colourful obi belt, luxe coats, chiffon blouses paired with fitted fishtail skirts, and fur capes.

Make your Oscar wish lists now.

Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2012

Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2012 show was titled ‘Rendezvous’ so she seduced us with second-skin body-conscious dresses, exposed shoulders, plunging necklines and thigh-high splits.

Even Diane’s signature wrap dresses were given a sexier refresh.

This presentation did have a collection of beautiful, whimsical prints of hands, quotation marks and chain-links, but overall there were noticeably less prints compared to previous seasons.

Instead we saw more colour-block looks and vibrant colours, including lime green, fuchsia, and cyan alongside moody maroons, rich reds and blacks.

Draped asymmetrical jumpsuits, office-appropriate separates, oversized coats, blouses, sheath dresses, pant suits and wrap skirts made up the majority of this presentation.

For the red carpet, the glamorous designer presented many beautiful looks starting with a red kimono halter dress, a fully sequined black halter gown, an aqua strapless dress with a thigh-high split, and a roseberry draped gown.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable presentation bursting with colour and looks for every type of woman for every event in her life.

Key accessories included box clutches, printed satchels, oversized clutches, leather opera gloves and ankle-strap pumps.

Victoria Beckham Fall 2012

Hot on the heels of her ‘Designer Brand of the Year’ award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards, Victoria showed that she is a real fashion force with this collection of day and evening wear looks for Fall 2012.

The sleek body-conscious dresses with signature exposed zippers, which her clientele just can’t get enough of, were sexy without being too in-your-face.

In order to keep them fresh they had contrasting panels and epaulets which provided chic military details.

Victoria’s Fall 2012 collection wasn’t just about her trademark fitted dresses; there were some shirt dresses with baseball collars, mini dresses with fluted skirts and a selection of wool coats which ranged from python-lined, single-breasted, leather-belt accented and cocoon-shaped.

The colour palette consisted of moss green, black, taupe and maroon with pops of red and cornflower blue.

Key accessories included peaked Stephen Jones beanie hats, double-wrapped leather belts, Christian Louboutin buckled boots paired with slouchy baseball socks and an array of bags and clutches which included the introduction of the ‘Harper’ bag.

We didn’t have to wait very long for VB to wear a look from this collection as she took her bow wearing a black fitted dress with her favourite Christian Louboutin ‘Daffodile’ pumps.

Monique Lhuillier Fall 2012

For Fall 2012 Monique Lhuiller took a dramatic turn as she amped up the glamour with sexy red carpet gowns with rich reds, sultry black, opulent shimmering gold and fiery volcanic prints.

Add cut-outs, black and red lace and leather accents and we are going to see plenty of jaw-dropping moments on the red carpet.

Whilst Monique is known for her red carpet gowns, she did also send models down the runway in uber-sleek pantsuits, and a gold embellished jumpsuit.

The collection was high on glamour and fashion-forward elements, but I don’t think this will scare off her clients as she has managed to marry classic 40s glamour in a modern, sophisticated way.

With the Oscars just two weeks away, I won’t be surprised to see many of these looks on the red carpet very soon.

Models’ tresses were lacquered and loose with Val Garland for MAC applying that luscious rich matte red colour to their perfect pouts.

Rachel Zoe Fall 2012

Stylist Rachel Zoe held her first runway show at the Hotel Empire on Saturday during New York Fashion Week.

The swanky location was fitting for her collection which paid homage to ’60s and ’70s rock n’ roll icons Marianne Faithfull and Mick Jagger.

Cue luxe faux-fur coats, blazers paired with floaty chiffon dresses, sharp tailored suits, sequined mini dresses, sweater dresses, flared pants and velvet tuxedos.

We also saw more jewelry on this occasion to give each look a rock n’ roll edge. Chunky chains and bangles with tassels adorned the models.

The rest of the accessories included over-the-knee boots with an embellished detail running down the back, clutches, over-sized totes and wide-brimmed hats. The only thing missing was Rachel’s trademark sunglasses.

Tibi Fall 2012

Amy Smilovic served up an unexpected, understated menswear-inspired collection for Tibi’s Fall 2012 presentation during New York Fashion Week yesterday evening.

I was expecting girlie tea-length dresses but instead I saw cropped pants, oversized outerwear, menswear-inspired blouses, slouchy knits, boxy wax jackets and double-breasted jackets.

It wasn’t all menswear inspired. We did see some A-line dresses, sleeveless peplum blouses, floaty skirts and chiffon flowy tops.

The pieces which stood out were the shimmering blue-and-green looks plus the pretty bird prints.

Models wore comfortable men’s shoes in black and white, their hair was styled into a low messy ponytail, their faces were kept natural and their nails were painted white.

What I love about this collection is that it is easy, chic and very wearable.

Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2012

I’m not quite sure how Max Azria does it, but every season he does the impossible by reinventing the bandage dress.

For Fall 2012 the designer portrayed feminine strength through equestrian-inspired harnesses.

Harness wide belts, body harnesses, leather stamped python long-sleeve harness shrugs and harness hip belts were paired with the bandage dresses which came in many forms.

Fringed, beaded, diamond print, pleated, jacquard and gowns with chiffon skirts were accessorized with leather boots, cuffs, wristlet clutches, box clutches and stand out animal print clutches.
