Chrissy Teigen made an out-of-character choice on the red carpet at the 2014 Oscars this evening (March 2).

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covergirl and newlywed wore a voluminous gown from Monique Lhullier Fall 2014 paired with a clutch and shoes by Jimmy Choo and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

We’re used to seeing Chrissy in uber-sexy, slinky gowns and she stepped out of her comfort zone while delivering a major fashion moment. The abstract print and pockets make this dress feel incredibly modern even though the cut reads couture.

Chrissy made a smart call not overwhelming the look with jewelry; the earrings are just enough to add a touch of glamour while letting the dress do most of the talking.

The tousled, swept back hair also adds to the modernity of the look.

I absolutely loved seeing Chrissy embrace a more contemporary type of sexy. How about you?

I dislike her but love her dress, I feel like it’s such a waste of a pretty dress!
    The hair is shockingly bad!

I wished a nominee wore this. This is a but much for a plus 1. But I have to give credit when its due. This look is gorgeous.

Love the stunning gown and that’s it. The hair should’ve really been a lot better.

      +1

I really love this dress – I had to Google her name though, so I agree – this would’ve been preferred on a nominee. But at least we get to see it on the red carpet. I love a contemporary twist (that isn’t horrible wrong) with the Oscars.

Too fancy for a non nominee and wishing it was worn by a better choice!

Kind of wish Lupita had worn this. It’s a stunning dress. Wish she’d kept he belt. Great look overall, though.

What a beautiful gown. It looks like it has blossom cascading down the skirt and train. I am not aware of who she is, but she looks stunning.

One of the best dressed there. Much better than Lupita’s dress.

No need to get bitter about it

I think this gown loses some of its gravitas from being worn by a +1, rather than a nominee or at least a credible actress.

I looooove this dress! Not too sure about the hair and but overall she looks great.

Love the gown, hate the hair.

Beautiful dress, but the hairstyle is really bad.

On the other hand, this is too much for a non-actress, just a +1.
