Lupita Nyong’o In Elie Saab – ’12 Years a Slave’ Paris Premiere

Lupita Nyong'o In Elie Saab - '12 Years a Slave' Paris PremiereLupita Nyong’o played the ultimate lady in red, when she attended the ’12 Years a Slave’ Paris premiere that was held today.

The actress was a crimson beauty in her Elie Saab Resort 2014 frock that was completely encased in softly sparkling sequins. A subtle, sheer geometric pattern that ran through the dress added visual interest.

Complementary David Yurman earrings, along with ruby Nicholas Kirkwood heels, completed the look.

Where a red lippie would have been expected, Lupita went the alternate route and painted on a clear gloss, which translated just as impeccably.

This woman is just amazing isn’t she? This is one of her finest looks in my opinion and deserves to be on the BDOTW poll. The colour, fit, styling and make up couldn’t have been better. I don’t mind the fact that she matched her shoes with the dress. Flawless!

Oof, yet another outstanding look from Lupita. The color is so striking, the fit is perfect and the sequins sublime. Lupita is such an interesting woman on the red carpet.

Too matchy-matchy, although this shape of dress and its colour fits her wonderfully. Beautiful woman in great dress.

I agree about matchy-matchy, sadly. She looks amazing head to ankles, though.

    • Charlotte December 12, 2013 at 08:34 #

      I agree.
      Ankles up, it’s perfect.

She looks amazing. I cannot wait for the year’s end poll. She will definitely win best makeup.

I agree. Her makeup is always flattering and flawless.

She is a joy to behold on the red carpet. This dress gives me chills, and it’s the perfect time of year for it. While we’re at it, I would love to see her in that other dress shown in the lookbook. She would be a vision, no?

    She looks beautiful!

This colour is perfect for her skin and the cut is so flattering! Love, love, love.

The red against her skin tone is perfect and she looks beautiful head to toe.

Gorgeous as ever, but *rolls eyes* at the need for readers to comment on ‘skin tone’ on this blog 90% of the time a black woman is featured. People never comment on Blake Lively’s skin tone or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s skin tone, regardless to say she is stunning and I love matchy matchty looks like this.

      • Catherine Kallon December 12, 2013 at 12:17 #

This is slightly incorrect. Skin tone isn’t only discussed on blog posts featuring women of colour. I have seen this type of comment on all types of skin tones. Latin, White, Asian…all kinds

        • sara December 12, 2013 at 22:47 #

I agree, I just commented on Rooney Mara’s skin tone as “porcelain” and many others as well. Its not about commenting on a “black woman” its about how personal features like hair color (rita oras’s hair color breaks some beautiful gowns) or skin color play a role in how a gown looks. certain colors compliment certain skin tones better than others. Lupita is lucky enough to have so many vibrant, amazing colors shine on her and truly bring a gown to life. I think Lupita is gorgeous regardless of her color and I think everyone else here would agree.

        • anonymous as always December 13, 2013 at 15:40 #

+1 how many times have we read and written phrases like “too pale”. Skin tone plays a huge role for every woman to what colours suit her the best.

      • Sharon December 13, 2013 at 22:11 #

I rarely go back to read my own comments, so I was unaware of the minor dust-up I started. I stand by my comment because I feel that, even though someone like Sandra Bullock for example, would look very good in this dress, it is Lupita’s skin tone that sets off the dress to absolute perfection. Skin color sometimes does make a difference, but in a fashion sense, not as racial prejudice.

So, peace on earth, good will to men.

      • Jess2 December 15, 2013 at 09:01 #

Many of us make comments regarding someone being ‘washed out’ by the dress they are wearing. Whether it be about Rooney Mara, Anna Kendrick or anyone else, it is mostly used to describe ‘white’ women. This is referring to skin tone and it is even used negatively.

Her makeup artist deserves a year-end award – even when her clothing hasn’t been to my taste (rare!), her makeup is always impeccable and interesting.

Although Lupita is so flawless it can’t be THAT difficult of a job 🙂

  14. Larissa December 11, 2013 at 23:22 #

Stunning as always. The dress fits her perfectly and her arms are to die for!
