Shakira Dazzles Wore Roberto Cavalli For The FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show

The Super Bowl halftime show has become such a cultural event that, for many people, it’s the main attraction rather than the game itself.

For those of us in Europe, however, a halftime show at a football match is unfamiliar territory. Sunday’s FIFA World Cup Final marked the first time the tournament embraced the concept, and while I was open to the idea, the execution felt oddly disjointed. I enjoyed each artist individually, but the line-up never quite found its rhythm. Justin Bieber’s slower set interrupted the momentum built by Madonna and BTS, before Shakira, the undisputed queen of FIFA, restored the energy with a performance that reminded everyone why she remains synonymous with football’s biggest stage.

Her worldwide hit Dai Dai, performed alongside Burberry-clad Burna Boy, certainly helped lift the atmosphere, but so did her dazzling custom Roberto Cavalli look.

Following the custom Roberto Cavalli ensemble she wore for the opening ceremony, Fausto Puglisi once again dressed the Colombian singer in a stage look that was impossible to ignore.

The two-piece centred on a custom Ray of Sunset print inspired by Roberto Cavalli’s iconic Ray of Gold motif. The plunging bodysuit, featuring criss-cross lacing and dramatic side cut-outs, was paired with a fringed skirt built from layers of embroidered satin chiffon in vibrant shades of pink, orange and gold.

The visual impact was impressive with more than 200,000 Swarovski crystals were hand-applied across the bodysuit in a sunset-inspired gradient, a process that took over 120 hours of embroidery and more than two weeks to complete. As expected, the embellishment caught the light from every angle, while the long fringes amplified every step of Shakira’s hip shaking choreography.

Roberto Cavalli also dressed the 34 dancers, whose coordinating two-piece costumes echoed the same Ray of Sunset motif in orange and yellow, creating a cohesive stage picture without pulling focus from the star of the show.

Shakira has long understood that football’s biggest stages demand fashion with just as much impact as the music, and this second Roberto Cavalli collaboration delivered exactly that.
