Why Tinted Glasses Are Everywhere in Menswear Right Now

Tinted glasses have emerged as one of the more noticeable shifts in Hollywood menswear during the 2026 awards season.

Colman Domingo has been wearing eyewear on red carpets long before this moment, making glasses part of the look rather than something removed before stepping in front of photographers. This year, that approach no longer feels singular. Across recent events, tinted lenses have been worn by actors who are otherwise sticking to classic menswear formulas, suggesting this is less about novelty and more about finishing a look.

There is also a practical side that cannot be ignored. Red carpets are brighter than ever, with harsher lighting. Tinted lenses soften that glare without forcing men into fully dark sunglasses, which can still feel too casual or detached for formal events.

What makes this feel like a genuine shift is how intentionally the men’s sunglasses are being paired. Amber and brown tints sit easily alongside black and chocolate suits. Smoke lenses work with midnight blue and charcoal tailoring. Rather than clashing, the eyewear often echoes the tone of the outfit, becoming part of the overall styling.

What was once limited to arrivals or post event appearances has moved firmly onto the red carpet. And while this shift feels organic, it is hard not to trace it back to Jeff Goldblum, whose long standing love of Jacques Marie Mage tinted sunglasses was especially noticeable while promoting the two Wicked films.

Actors like Michael B. Jordan, Jacob Elordi, Tom Blyth, and Glen Powell have all stepped out recently with tinted lenses, each using them differently but with the same result. The look feels finished, not layered on.

Menswear on the red carpet has been searching for new points of interest now that tailoring has settled into a confident rhythm. Watches are often hidden by jacket sleeves. Brooches, while still present, remain selective. Glasses sit front and centre, offering a visible way to personalise a suit without rewriting the dress code.

This is not about turning sunglasses into a statement piece. It is about men recognising eyewear as a legitimate part of formal dressing. If the past few seasons were about refining the suit, 2026 is showing us how men are choosing to frame it.
