Anya Taylor-Joy’s Double Dior at the Marrakech Film Festival

For the 22nd edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, Anya Taylor-Joy has stepped into her role as jury member with the kind of poise we expect from her. Two days in, and we already have a mini hydrangea narrative blooming.

Day One

The first look will ring a bell for anyone who remembers Monica Barbaro’s appearance at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala. This is the longer, inky black version of the Dior Spring 2026 draped silk jersey bustier dress—complete with those sculptural white hydrangea clusters. Do I prefer the longer length? Absolutely. Do I prefer it strapless? Also yes. But do I wish she had opted for a different colour? More than anything.

Anya is one of the rare Ryan Hastings clients who can break out of his beloved noir palette and really shine in richer, brighter tones. So seeing her in black—especially in a silhouette this cocooned—left me wanting a little more spark. This version is unquestionably the stronger of the two we’ve seen so far on the red carpet, but it doesn’t quite hit that transcendent Anya gear. I like it, but I’m not swooning.

Day Two

The hydrangeas weren’t done with us yet. Anya re-emerged in a custom Dior gold velvet bustier dress with a silk pleated skirt, and suddenly the narrative clicked into a more romantic register. The floral embellishment along the neckline is delicate, but I can’t help thinking how beautifully the story would have continued had the flowers—or some other gentle detail—been placed at the waist as well. It feels like the dress is asking for a finishing touch that never arrived.

As for the colour, I know this mustardy, olive-tinted gold will divide you, but on pale skin it brings warmth. It’s softer than a traditional metallic and has a slightly vintage undertone that suits her ethereal sensibility.

Two days into jury duty and Anya is giving us Dior in soft romanticism. The question is: which look do you prefer?

Tiffany & Co. jewels completed both looks.
