Sydney Sweeney Wore Miu Miu To The ‘Christy’ AFI FEST Premiere

Sydney Sweeney attended the 2025 AFI FEST premiere of her new film Christy.

Excuse me if this sounds melodramatic, but this might be one of my least favourite press tours of all time. Sydney is a gorgeous woman with undeniable presence, but every time I think her red carpet choices have hit rock bottom, she manages to dig a little deeper.

She wore a pink Miu Miu cotton lace gown with a basque waist, belted midsection, and wide skirt featuring a scalloped neckline. On paper, that sounds sweet. In reality, it’s too sweet — like eating an entire box of macarons in one sitting. The halter neckline and corseted bust amplify her figure, but the pastel lace and frothy silhouette push the look into costume territory. It’s giving ‘50s debutante meets Barbie’s bridesmaid.

Compared to her striking Armani look from the Academy Museum Gala, this feels oddly robotic — all dress, no depth. There’s a stiffness to it that doesn’t align with Sydney’s natural energy or charisma.

Her team seems intent on keeping her in this retro pin-up loop, and it’s becoming exhausting. I’m all for a strong aesthetic and a theme, but it’s time to trade bubblegum fantasy for something else, because it’s not working for her. She’s got the presence, she just needs the fashion to match it.
