I haven’t covered an amfAR Gala in quite some time, mainly because the red carpets — especially during Cannes Film Festival — have become rather uninspiring as the fashion hasn’t been worth talking about. But this inaugural London fundraising gala changed everything thanks to one woman — Jodie Turner-Smith. When she’s on the guest list, you can always expect a moment.
Wearing a look from Duran Lantink’s debut Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2026 collection, Jodie reminded everyone what a red carpet moment truly looks like. While Lantink’s first outing for the house leaned heavily on viral shock value, this particular design stood out as one of the rare pieces that managed to deliver theatricality.
The sculptural, strapless orange satin jumpsuit — complete with the Maison’s iconic cone bust — felt both nostalgic and forward-thinking. It reinterpreted Gaultier’s legendary corsetry with a more architectural edge, fusing the sensuality of the brand’s DNA with a futuristic silhouette that sculpted Jodie’s figure to perfection. We have ‘90s legacy with the saturated hue bringing it firmly into 2025.
Yet, what truly elevated this moment for me was the electric blue cape. Draped with exaggerated drama, it instantly summoned the spirit of Grace Jones — a style muse who has long informed Jodie’s fearless fashion vocabulary. The connection couldn’t have been more poetic, given that Grace Jones herself closed the event with a performance. One icon honouring another, through the language of fashion.
Jodie completed her look with an 886 By The Royal Mint choker, matching earrings, and bracelet — gleaming accents that underscored the power of this look. Even if this red carpet hadn’t been dominated by nondescript black gowns, Jodie’s daring, directional, and unapologetically glamorous presence would have stood out regardless. That’s why we love her.
