Janelle Monáe Wore Thom Browne To The 2025 Met Gala

I was going to add Janelle Monáe’s look into Thom Browne’s group round-up—after all, the designer dressed a small army for the 2025 Met Gala’s Superfine: Tailoring Black Style themed event—but when I saw her drop two hall of fame looks, like any style icon, she gets her own space. As she should.

Honestly, Janelle is the only celebrity who gave me goosebumps this year. Literal shivers of fashion delight. She’s long been a Thom Browne loyalist, but this was next-level magic—the kind of fashion moment the Met Gala is built for.

The first look was a mind-bending trompe l’oeil striped suit with a top-handle sleeveless overcoat, tailored to absolute perfection. Then came the big reveal: the coat came off to unveil a second deconstructed suit in a contrasting colourway, playing with proportions and asymmetry in a way that few could pull off without being swallowed by the concept.

The accessories were just as considered—the clock-monocle by Cameron Hughes suspended from her hat was giving surrealist chic, while Marie Lichtenberg and Selim Mouzannar jewels added sparkle without distraction, the first-ever Tequila diamond made from 1800 Cristalino Tequila accented her tie. A Vacheron Constantin watch completed the look, because of course time stops for no one, unless you’re Janelle Monáe at the Met Gala.
