Kiki Layne stars in ‘The Old Guard’ alongside Charlize Theron and Chiwetel Ejiofor which launched on Netflix on Friday (July 10).
KiKi is part of the rise of Black women in comic-book-inspired action films, alongside Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Letitia Wright in ‘Black Panther,’ and soon, Javica Leslie in the second season of ‘Batwoman’ (replacing Ruby Rose).
In this film, KiKi plays a military mercenary with immortal powers, joining Charlize and her team as they run from evil to try and save the world.
On her character Nile, Kiki says, “she has no superpowered lasers coming out of her hands. She wears T-shirts and boots, normal civvies.”
Sounds like she will be kicking ass in this movie. I can’t wait to watch it tonight.
Before I cry into my pillow tonight dreaming about what an epic promo tour it would’ve been to see Kiki alongside Charlize Theron on the red carpet, I’m delighted we get to see the actress on top form during lockdown.
It’s been exciting to see her star power rise, as she looked stunning wearing a red silk suit from the Adriana Iglesias Pre-Fall 2018 collection.
I love how the structured shoulders lend a dominant yet feminine vibe to this lustrous silk blazer with a mens-inspired silhouette, which is accented with a hoop silk belt.
I’m glad she didn’t wear the maxi skirt, as that look appears a little dated, and I feel that Kiki’s look has a much stronger presence.
Adding a black satin bustier for a hint of sex appeal, the look was with complete with some gold jewels, which included her signature nose-ring.
Where do you stand on this look?
Do you wish she had worn the skirt, or glad she opted for the trousers?
