Where are Octavia Spencer & Paz Vega? I miss then in the poll!!

  2. VG March 7, 2018 at 06:32 #

Nicole wins for me. She’s a classic movie star…when I first saw her on the RC, I was instantly taken back to when I was a child and watching the Oscars in awe of how magical EVERY gown looked. It was a moment! And we haven’t had one of those at the Oscars in years.

Saoirse’s dress is severely underrated. It was fashion forward, interesting and suit her perfectly!! I think people tend to forget that she’s only 23! I like that she maintains a youthful aesthetic. I think this dress will at least be remembered for years to come.

Lupita wore a typical Oscar gown but looked stunning in it.

    Everybody else bored me.

When Nicole decides she wants to compete…she competes and leaves everyone in her dust. Pretty much. The magic may even be in the inconsistency. I sometimes scratch my head and pant, wondering when she will bring IT. This night, she did. And she reminded all of us why is is a true fashion and movie star. The rare species slowly going extinct in Hollywood.

Kudos Nicole. Thanks you for the magic darling! What a coup for Armani!

    Without doubt Nicole. Nicole. Nicole.

Choosing a top five is a much harder task. Unlike other commenters not for lack of inspiration but because there were so many I liked narrowing it down is hard. Yes some were unoriginal designs but that doesn’t take away from how gorgeous the women looked on the night.

  11. CaroChanel March 6, 2018 at 20:04 #

I just have to say it, I really hate Nicoles dress and I don‘t understand all the buzz. I‘m not a fan of heart shaped bustiers/corsages and the bow is hideous. It might be perfectly tailored but that doesn‘t make it look good. Oh well, to each their own. I loved Emily Blunts dress but didn’t like her hair. Eventually I voted for Lupita ‘cause she looked like a queen abd deserved extra points for not gooing deep V.

  12. faellie March 6, 2018 at 19:10 #

I voted for Greta on the “she’s never looked lovelier” basis. but it could easily have been Alison Janney.

There were some standouts I’d have liked to have seen in the line-up either on the “never looked better” or the “something different but in a good way” principle: Laurie Metcalf, Samara Weaving, Maya Rudolph, Leslie Mann, Tiffany Haddish, Ashley Judd and Emily Gordon.

  13. Fiona-Brasil March 6, 2018 at 18:59 #

    1-Nicole
    2-Viola Davis
    3-Gal Gadot
    4-Jennifer Lawrence
    5-Laura Dern

  14. Rashmi March 6, 2018 at 18:39 #

    Paz Vega for me

  15. JHH March 6, 2018 at 18:34 #

Allison Janney for me by a mile, followed by Octavia Spencer, and Gal Gadot. I agree with Maria F about the overall feel of this year’s red carpet.

  16. Julie E. March 6, 2018 at 18:20 #

I’m missing Allison Williams here. Otherwise a nice red carpet, but nobody really took my breath away.

  17. Ria March 6, 2018 at 18:15 #

I am genuinely confused. Nicole’s dress- sure the color I beautiful but that big bow in the front is terrible. How is the best dressed?

  18. TeaAtTwo March 6, 2018 at 17:59 #

    1 Nicole Kidman
    2 Leslie Mann
    3 Paz Vega

  19. Susie March 6, 2018 at 17:46 #

    Nicole, by a mile.

My runner-up is Allison Janney in that red dress, which looked particularly graceful in motion when she came up to accept her award.

  20. Lashae March 6, 2018 at 17:44 #

Outside of a few memorable looks overall it mediocre red carpet. I think I preferred the men red carpet looks this year since most of them more memorable than the women. My favorite and who I chose was Lupita.

Also thank you Catherine and your team with the awesome and thorough coverage of the Oscars (including the parties) and all of the awards this season.

      +1

  21. Lizzy March 6, 2018 at 17:43 #

Nicole and Saoirse are the only ones who brought actual FASHION to this event. Everything else has been seen before and done better. Gal Gadot and Lupita looked stunning, at least.

A variation of Jennifer Garner’s Versace has been seen at least once a year at this event in a different color. I’m sure of it. Bored to tears. And Emily Blunt’s gown looks more Marchesa than Schiaparelli. Yikes.

  22. Dana March 6, 2018 at 17:33 #

I thought this was a solid red carpet. No real take my breathe away moments, but many gorgeous looks. I really liked Octavia Spencer in Brandon Maxwell, but she is not on the list.

  23. Hect March 6, 2018 at 17:23 #

    Saoirse for sure

  24. The original AB March 6, 2018 at 17:20 #

For me it’s a tie between Nicole and Lupita, they both looked so striking!

Catherine, thank you to you and your team for your stellar coverage. It really has been fabulous, a real treat!

  25. Maria March 6, 2018 at 16:58 #

Nicole’s dress is pretty much the only one from this year that will be referenced and referred to 20/30 years down the line. People are calling it iconic already for a reason. A perfect blend of modernity and classic movie star glamour. And a dress that is somehow elevated even more by who was wearing it. It was just a fashion *moment* and the only one that gave me outright chills.

    1. Nicole Kidman
    2. Saoirse Ronan
    3. Gal Gadot
    4. Lupita Nyong’o
    5. Jennifer Lawrence

H/M: Greta Gerwig, if only for the color/lip combo. So lovely.

  26. Nat39 March 6, 2018 at 16:52 #

Nicole by knockout, an epic red carpet appearance.

    • Nat39 March 6, 2018 at 17:19 #

..shout-out to Viola and Mary J.Blige.

  27. EmmaWoodhouse March 6, 2018 at 16:39 #

    1. Sofia Carson
    2. Lupita
    3. Jennifer Garner
    4. Gal
    5. Emily
    6. Zendaya

I also really enjoyed the drama of Nicole’s and the stunning color that I could look at forever.

  28. james March 6, 2018 at 16:35 #

I loved NK’s dress but NOT ON HER! Her plastic face was too much for me besides her horrid hair. On Cate Blanchett, it would have been on my BDOTY list along with Lupita’s Atelier Versace from the Black Panther premiere. On this poll, I voted for Jennifer Garner as she has never looked better even though it feels like someone has already worn something similar in the past.

    • Phillip March 7, 2018 at 05:07 #

You are way off. Nicole looked stunning. Period.

  29. fromchi-town March 6, 2018 at 16:35 #

Nicole Kidman all the way!! There was no contest in my mind. It is an iconic look and it was pretty much flawless. Other favorites of mine were Lupita, Allison Janney and Jennifer Garner.

FC and team – thank you for the wonderful coverage and commentary as usual!! You rock!

  30. Caroline March 6, 2018 at 16:12 #

1- Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé (who’s also so far my BDOTY)
2- Viola Davis in Michael Kors
    3- Margot Robbie in Chanel

  31. Maria F. March 6, 2018 at 16:04 #

this one was really difficult for me. I personally felt it was a mediocre red carpet this year. Some nice dresses, but I missed a real wow moment, a dress that will stay in my mind for years to come like the Julia Robert’s one or Michelle William’s. Even Nicole’s cannot compete with the ones from her earlier years, like the Chinese inspired one (Dior?).

I am missing some risk taking, that yes, might be controversial and might end up on the Worst dressed list, but at least it is a fashion moment.

When we have Thomas Monk’s posts of the new designer collections, we always see so many cool dressed that we pair with celebrities. Where do these dresses end up? Bummer.

    • TeaAtTwo March 6, 2018 at 18:10 #

That’s why I appreciated Andra Day’s Zac Posen.

    • VirginiaFromAmsterdam March 6, 2018 at 20:09 #

      Very disappointing this year….

    • Bella March 7, 2018 at 02:58 #

Agree ! Boring and mundane styles by most actresses. Probably their stylists chose for them because they want to play it safe instead of expressing individuality and uniqueness.
