2017 BET Awards Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

The guys at the 2017 BET Awards were not to leave it to the girls for all the head-turning sartorial extravaganzas, as they delivered plenty of their own on Sunday (June 25) in LA.

Gucci Mane: Gucci Mane played the name game and donned a Gucci Fall 2016 sky-blue suit embellished with a sword-through-the-heart motif. A few layers of additional bling were to be expected with diamond cross pendants, rings, and bracelets. DJ Khaled’s baby son, Asahd, gave Gucci a run for his money though, as he wore a mini version of the same suit—sans bling—for the ultimate twinning moment.

French Montana: We’ve seen the pyjama trend on the red carpet, but French was all about the robe life in this Gucci Spring 2017 piece that was hyper-decorated in a bizarre fusion of Asiatic embroideries and Donald Duck. Presented over a white dress shirt, distressed denim and gold chains, it really did seem like he failed to remove his dressing gown before leaving home.

Demetrius Shipp Jr.: A fine vision in aubergine, Demetrius put the sillier sartorial statements to shame in this Ermenegildo Zegna monochromatic suit that he suavely styled with black slipper shoes.

Trevor Jackson: Trevor missed throwback Thursday by a few days, but the cheese ratio was still off the charts with this swirly Versace printed shirt, too-tight ripped and tattered jeans, and Alexander McQueen embellished shoes. I’d only save the Henry London timepiece before sending this all back to the ’90s.

Sean Combs: Instead of wearing the runway’s fiery red pants, Sean cooled off this Haider Ackermann Spring 2017 striped shirt—cut through with a white-hot flame—with matching white-and-black trousers.

Khalid: Cropped pants can be a tough sell, and with this Kenzo Spring 2017 look, they didn’t exactly do Khalid any favours. The retro-fab printed top was as much to blame, too.

Demetrius scored top style marks by a long shot here. Would you agree?
