Cate Blanchett In Armani Privé – ‘Sicario’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Cate Blanchett In Armani Privé - ‘Sicario’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Cate Blanchett attended the premiere of ‘Sicario’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday (May 19) in Cannes, France.

As it wasn’t her movie, perhaps Cate made an effort to take a backseat when she opted to wear this Armani Privé Spring 2015 black gown.

The issue is when you are Cate Blanchett, there are no backseats to be had –this subdued offering still screams elegance.

Some might not be wowed, but this understated look still grabbed my attention.

I thought the same thing when I saw her earlier on TV, she wore black to avoid overshadowing Emily, the star of Sicario. Problem is, Emily’s long sleeve gown was underwhelming.
J’adore this gown! Perfection, she looks like the true Hollywood movie star she is, classic, elegant, chic, exactly what’s expected from a Giorgio Armani piece. Love this!

I will have to disagree here, She is a really beautiful woman and the gown fits her perfectly, but it is nothing special imo. The combination of the color with the fabric makes it almost boring. I like that she chose something simple and yes, she is elegant as always, but it brings nothing new on the table.

  5. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

Sooo good! So elegant. Just stunning. Cate Blanchett did it once again.

  6. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

While her other look was more dramatic and different, this one, however, suits her so much more, perfection. The gown doesn’t make strong dramatic impact but it’ s elegant with Japanese influence subtly adding interest, and she carries it amazingly, her mesmerizing presence is really everything here.

  7. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

She’s breathtaking. She brings something very unique to everything she wears.

Bec, you explained my black-at-Cannes aversion perfectly, thank you! Between the black looks, the fall looks and indistinguishable (if often pretty) Saab-Murad looks, I’m starting to lose interest in Cannes fashion altogether….

  9. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

    No worries! 🙂

It’s definitely been fairly forgettable, still i have hope that there will be at least ONE look that will blow my mind!! 🙂

  10. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

    She wins again
I have nothing again black anyway (I don’t understand people’s aversion to black by the way)
I think Cate and Armani found the right formula – she wears a lot of his but not exclusively – she can wear other designers, take risks and keep herself sartorially interesting
I think eventually Dior will take note and make the house’s contracts with its key ladies less stringent

ITA so much better than the other mess. Having said that, I like it but don’t get too excited about.

In fact, I very much prefer this over her last outing.

This is the Cate I like. Elegant, regal, oozing star power.

Elegant and beautiful. I loved this collection and am so happy that we’ve gotten to see two looks from it already here in Cannes.

i think people have an aversion to black, at Cannes in particular because:

    1. It’s spring
    2. In the south of France (on the water)
    3. Most of the red carpets/events are outdoors and in the afternoon.

For these reasons most people expect colour and patterns etc….when/if you go to an afternoon party by the beach in spring do you wear black? Most people would say no and that’s why it gets so much hate.

+5 – I agree with every word! Elegance down to a T. This is the first black dress to go on my top 10 list for Cannes this year.

  24. Guest April 28, 2019 at 3:01 am #

She makes black less boring. This is such a commanding look. Love this!

  25. Fxcool May 23, 2015 at 5:28 am #

Her look kinda reminded me of Kim Basinger’s femme fatale look in ‘L.A. Confidential’.

  26. Amy May 20, 2015 at 11:17 am #

this is very chic, elegant and just like her. I like it

  27. tweed May 20, 2015 at 2:41 am #

This is more like it from her. Gorgeous dress worn perfectly.

  28. Fiona - Perth May 20, 2015 at 12:19 am #

I agree with all the comments – the dress ok on the runway but on Cate it is stunning. She is so regal in her bearing, the styling is gorgeous and the black looks amazing against her skin and hair. This is how you do low-cut without falling out all over the red carpet, she looks like a modern-day Joan Crawford. Definitely one of my favourites.

  29. Phoenix May 20, 2015 at 12:14 am #

Simple and black and yet she totally brings it to another level. Amazing! She makes it look so good.

  30. Della May 19, 2015 at 10:51 pm #

The way Cate carries herself on the red carpet never ceases to amaze me. Her regal posture and statuesque, sculptural build allows for her to wear with ease and elegance the most “difficult” of dresses to pull off. I absolutely loved her Giles look…and I absolutely love this Armani Prive look as well! They are two uniquely beautiful dresses for one uniquely beautiful woman.
The impeccable fit of the gown on her and her fittingly Queen-like red carpet stare really complete this look.

  31. CreoleLady May 19, 2015 at 10:25 pm #

The dress is negligible. It’s the “s” curves of that pose, the intensity of that stare, the flawlessness of that beauty look that has me sitting up and taking note. Whatever she wants, she can have when she brings attitude like this. Work.

  32. Caroline May 19, 2015 at 9:40 pm #

Well this is a nice change from what she wore last. That Giles thing she was wearing last time is HORRENDOUS. This is nothing special but she’s just so perfect that she looks like walking elegance in this ensemble.

  33. james May 19, 2015 at 9:17 pm #

Cate is my favorite actress but most of the time, I don’t get the fascination with her fashion style. Here, she looks regal but nothing special imo.

    • chisyelda May 20, 2015 at 12:13 am #

I think it’s more to do with her aura, she is just very statuesque and elegant. Something that may not be anything special when others wear it becomes very special on her.

  34. justme May 19, 2015 at 8:14 pm #

I much prefer this to her Giles look tbh.

  35. EmmaWoodhouse May 19, 2015 at 8:10 pm #

Despite the neckline plunging too low for my taste, I love the rest of this look. It is sleekly, exotically elegant–I love the obi-style belt and the beading, and her cool charisma. So glad she is here.

  36. mm May 19, 2015 at 8:10 pm #

Love this much better than her last look. I want this gown

  38. pinksugar May 19, 2015 at 7:37 pm #

I don’t mind this being black because Cate is selling it so strongly. She brought it to life, the runway version pales in comparison.

    • bfly May 19, 2015 at 10:46 pm #

Absolutely. Cate’s version is far superior.

  39. from-chitown May 19, 2015 at 7:34 pm #

She looks elegant. Well, she is Cate Blanchett – she cannot look un-elegant if her life depended on it. That being said – this does not wow me.
