The Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture presentation ended my short trip to Paris for Couture Week.

I’m always a bit nervous before an Elie Saab show as I ask myself, ‘What if I don’t like it?’

I didn’t like it, I loved it. Before I could pick myself up off the floor from Karlie Kloss’ stunning opener, another breathtaking gown hit the runway.

Elie may have given us a lot of daywear for ready-to-wear, but it was back to full-on glamorous gowns for Couture.

Inspired by the ‘imperial splendour’ and Ottoman motifs of Constantinople, the colour was surprisingly summery in parts with soft pink, nude, coral and sky blue presented alongside gold, black and teal blue.

The shapes and silhouettes varied from full-length, knee-length sheaths and flirty flared dresses with thin belts nipping in the model’s’ tiny waist.

Every celeb from Elle Fanning to Helen Mirren could select a look or two from this collection, as the designer covered all the bases – even a blushing bride who closed the show wearing an organza-embossed gown with gold brocade leaves.

This season I was most blown away by the embellished details. The magpie in me just couldn’t get enough. Sequins and beads adorned most of the looks which dazzled or gave an antique, vintage feel to the pieces.

My wish list is super long, so here is the edited version.

Alexandre Vauthier is the man who puts the Haute into Haute Couture.

For his Fall 2012 Couture collection the designer served up a colour palette of mostly white and gold with touches of taupe in the mix, which included his signature sexy dresses, gowns and sharp jumpsuits.

If a look wasn’t gold it was dripping in gold with gold chains, gold Swarovski Elements or gold heels.

As always, he leaves very little to the imagination with hip-high slits, deep plunging necklines and ultra mini dresses with thigh-high slits, which are adored by the likes of Rihanna.

We saw many peplums for Fall 2012 ready-to-wear, so I wasn’t surprised to see this popular trend continue at Alexandre Vauthier.

One of my many favourite pieces was the gold laser-cut lace long-sleeve top with a plunging neckline paired with matching pants and matching Louboutins. I would love to see this on a brunette – Penelope Cruz, Cobie Smulders or Bérénice Marlohe would have me salivating if they hit the red carpet wearing this look.

The couturier and shoe maestro Christian Louboutin continue their working relationship as we saw an updated version of the popular ‘Bis Un Bout’ with white or gold toe-caps with a gold heel.

Boots with an asymmetrical slant and t-bar sandals also came courtesy of Monsieur Louboutin.

I believe JLo, Beyonce and Lady Gaga will be in a three-way fight for the final look; a gold bodysuit fully embellished with beads, rhinestone, glass fringes and Swarovksi Elements.

I hope Beyonce wins.

After the circus that surrounded the previous show, it was a delight to enter the serene environment of the Armani Prive Fall 2012 show.

The invitation was a degrade daybreak mix of blue, lilac, mauve and pink, which is exactly what we saw on the runway.

For the first part of the presentation we marvelled at the designer’s signature architectural silhouette. Impeccably well tailored blazers, Shantung silk choker jackets and wool overcoats were either paired with luxurious silk wide leg pants or silk velvet pants.

We also saw vests with wrap-around velvet and silk trimmed skirts, ombre and colour-block coats and plenty of trouser suits before we moved seamlessly onto eveningwear as the sun set in the backdrop.

My heart skipped several beats when look 28 took to the runway. A strapless gown embroidered with pink rhinestone and beads must have a red-carpet moment. Like a few other pieces in the evening portion of the show, this dress was styled with a bead veil.

As someone who is obsessed with gowns, you’ll be surprised to learn that my favourite look from this collection was a black beaded jumpsuit with touches of blue and pink.

There was plenty more sparkle from the evening gowns which were accented with Swarovski crystals plus there were some muted classic black velvet numbers. The question now is which one will Cate Blanchett chose?

Accessories included Philip Treacy’s black velvet hats, feathery fascinators, pointed flats, t-bar sandals and an array of clutches.

The Stéphane Rolland Fall 2012 Couture show started nearly an hour late (more on that later) but it was worth the wait.

Inspired by illustrations from David Downtown and furniture designer Maria Pergay, Cheryl Cole’s favourite couturier sent models down the runway in breath-taking long crepe de chine and satin Oscar- and most definitely Cannes-worthy gowns.

On a colour palette of burgundy, warm browns, black and ivory, each piece was extremely unique with beautiful accents such as feathers, silicone white slices and what looked liked clear kryptonite.

Signature draped fabrics gave the collection a very whimsical feel. I always love how the trains and long capes billow as the models storm the runway.

Accessories included belts with gold hardware, very sexy platform heels and over-the-knee boots.

After featuring Nieves Alvarez on my blog recently, it was a delight to see her take to the runway wearing a chic black suit with a built-in cape and plunging neckline.

My heart lifted when Fan Bingbing, the designer’s muse, took to the runway.

She looked breathtaking wearing an ivory sleeveless gown with a cape embellished with silicone slices.

This was about the time when the reason the show started so late turned up: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

As a ‘designer’ you would’ve thought Kanye would show some respect for a real designer and show up on time.

I honestly don’t understand why they were invited in the first place. If you google Stephane Rolland, the news is that the couple upstaged the show who arrived 5 minutes before the end – hardly a word on the clothes.

If Kanye and Kim were invited to ensure headlines, they did, but at the detriment of designer.

When I arrived at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris yesterday afternoon for the Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2012 Couture show, I thought it was an outside presentation.

That’s because many of the beautiful women waiting outside to see the show were wearing pieces from the designer’s collection which included her signature voluminous printed maxi skirts worn over a knit sweater and signature head scarves or wool hats.

For her first runway show during Paris Fashion Week, the Russian designer/street-style star certainly pulled in a crowd of major industry players like Grace Coddington, Carine Roitfeld, Tim Blanks, Anna Dello Russo and Patrick Demarchelier.

With a line-up of top models, the show started with a military-style coat before moving onto the designer’s signature look I mentioned above.

Apron dresses, oversized coats, capes, fur-lined parkas, boyish jodhpurs, a chic white suit, folk jackets, sweaters paired with fitted pants, an uber-cute floral embroidered mini dress styled with red-hot knee-boots and long-sleeve playsuits – one with a military sash – added a playfulness to this collection with plenty of Russian references.

The Russianness came through via the accessories, which included military hats, lace helmet, medals of honour, military boots, babushkas and big furry hats.

Other accessories included back packs, hand-carved wooden heels, embroidered headbands and epaulettes, lace-covered flasks, shakos, clutches and gloves.

We saw a few evening looks. The bright red satin gown was the standout piece, but the pretty black lace dress was my favourite.

Natalia Vodianova, the Russian supermodel and a Ulyana Sergeenko client, fittingly closed the show in a floor-sweeping black coat styled with a floral embroidered tulle veil.

It will be interesting to see if the exposure of Paris Fashion Week will push Ulyana’s signature style into the mainstream.  Is Hollywood ready for a collection which mixes military, fantasy and femininity?

After four weeks of non-stop fashion with awards season wedged in between, my Fall 2012 season ended with the King, Elie Saab.

On a glamorous colour palette of emerald green, gold, black, slate grey and ivory, the designer presented a lot less gowns than we are used to for Fall 2012.

Many of you wanted to see something new, so he kick-started the presentation with Karlie Kloss sporting blunt-cut bangs and wearing a tweed skirt suit with a peplum waist.

Who knew tweed could look so sexy? Apparently Karlie knew.

A succession of power-dressing daywear followed, fitted bi-colour dresses with structural silhouettes, architectural belted wool coats, loose-fitting pants paired with fur coats, fluted skirts, butterfly blouses and jumpsuits, one with sexy cobweb-like panels, the other paired with a very dramatic cape.

Some printed looks followed before the moody turn from glamorous to glitzy with a parade of gorgeous gowns; his speciality.

The emerald-green and the gold gowns really caught my eye, but I wouldn’t be disappointed to see any of them hit the red carpet.

I think Mr Saab should save the long-sleeve slate-grey gown with the thigh-high split for Ms Jolie, and, seeing how breathtaking Katie Holmes looks in Mr Saab’s designs, I’m putting the emerald-green gown on my wish list for her.

Key accessories included the croc, leather, jewelled and fur-accented bags and clutches alongside ankle boots and pointy-toe pumps.

If you didn’t watch the show live yesterday, you can catch the replay over at ElieSaab.com.
