Front Row @ Dior Spring 2014

Front Row @ Dior Spring 2014

The Dior Spring 2014 runway show took place during Paris Fashion week earlier today, and of course the front row was packed with beautiful starlets.

Olga Kurylenko: Taking advantage of the last few days of summer, Olga wore a white Dior silk mini dress styled with an oversized two-tone Dior clutch and tri-colour Dior pumps. I love her clutch as it’s just the right size to carry around an iPad during fashion week, but perhaps too big for this look. Olga also accessorized with Dior Fine Jewelry ‘Diorette’ yellow gold diamonds and lacquer earrings.

Natalia Vodianova: The Russian model kept her look super simple and chic wearing a navy Dior navy tie-neck jumpsuit styled with Dior silver sandals and a white Dior clutch.

Olivia Palermo: I have a feeling this won’t be to everyone’s liking, but j’adore Olivia’s look from head-to-toe. There is too much going on, I hear some of you cry, well for me that is the beauty in it. The high-street loving FROWer donned a Dior orange blazer, a Dior houndstooth bustier and a Dior black, white-and-orange lace-and-silk Dior skirt which she accessorized with Dior dual-tone pumps and a Dior splatter paint clutch. If I had to change one thing it be the hair as that is competing with everything south of her shoulders.

Olivia Palermo Front Row @ Nina Ricci Spring 2014

Olivia Palermo could be spotted front row yesterday at the Nina Ricci Spring 2014 show during Paris Fashion Week.

The style plate was dripping in sophistication with her romantic ballet-pink Nina Ricci ensemble that featured a radzimir and organza-laced, belted bustier top and pencil skirt from the Fall 2013 collection.

This ultra-feminine moment was juxtaposed with her Nina Ricci off-white Pre-Fall 2013 jacket with raw-trimmed shoulders and a pin-tucked peplum waist previous worn by Nicole Kidman.

I love the structural mix of this sweet yet statement-making entrance, which was enhanced with the tougher edge of embellished, black Stuart Weitzman pumps and a pink Nina Ricci clutch with sculpted, metallic hardware.

Salma Hayek was also making the rounds at Paris Fashion Week, as she attended the Balenciaga Spring 2014 show yesterday at the Paris Observatory.

Pledging her allegiance to the Spanish fashion label, the actress put on a monochrome Balenciaga Resort 2014 ensemble that featured a black waist-cinching ribbon-belt detail.

The graphic, graffiti-inspired print, which was rather hectic, was further edged up with heavy, black McQ Alexander McQueen sandal booties.

Keeping the look both fun and fashion-forward, she wore black-and-white geek-chic Balenciaga sunnies with dazzling, circle pendant earrings.

Elie Saab Spring 2013

Elie Saab’s Spring 2013 collection was a very colourful one.

Models glided down the runway in electric blue, teal, rose pink, shocking pink, beige, chocolate and some exciting prints were thrown into the mix.

A few of the looks, ranging from day dresses to red-carpet gowns, took to the runway with a matching shoulder bag, clutch, or tote which continue to improved from season to season.

There were a few pieces I really loved like the printed dresses and look 29, a strapless cream dress decorated with embellishments which fluttered so beautifully down the runway.

Look 25, a white jumpsuit (as a jumpsuit obsessive) also caught my eye as did look 40, an electric-blue lace tiered gown.   The striped pieces stood out. But as for the rest it all felt really familiar.

Celebrities will no doubt snap up the collection; hopefully the printed look will get a run out.

I read on Twitter that celebs were requesting dress just from viewing Instagram pictures, so we will no doubt see this collection on the red carpet very soon.

Taylor Swift was in the front row, so she might be tempted to return to her embellished-gown-loving ways after seeing this collection.

Front Row: Taylor Swift, Rachel Zoe, Virginie Ledoyen, Alain Delon, Elsa Pataky, Clotilde Courau, Alysson Paradis

Alexander McQueen Spring 2013

There is always a buzz of excitement before any Alexander McQueen show, but for Sarah Burton’s Spring 2013 collection this was quite literal, as prior to the presentation the soundtrack was just that: the sound of buzzing bees.

When the first model took to the runway wearing a honeycomb beekeeper hat and a hive-like fabric ensemble…the inspiration became clear.

This truly amazing collection featured signature tailored jackets with cinched-in waists. On this occasion the tortoise belts looked like they were made from honey.

There were many other clever bee, beekeeper, honey and honeycomb references demonstrated on fitted dresses with caged honey-like peplums, a honey corset with bejewelled detailing paired with shorts, honeycomb jacquard suits and the finale gowns which ranged from sweet decorative pieces to dramatic embellished gowns to full-on ballgowns.

Despite the inventiveness and uniqueness of the collection, it was totally wearable so I’m hopefully we will see these pieces on a red carpet very soon.

Front Row: Anna Wintour and Salma Hayek

Favourites: Black corseted gown with a jeweled high collar and double peplum vest paired with shorts

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Lady Gaga, Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth Banks, Florence Welch, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathway and Tilda Swinton

Giambattista Valli Spring 2013

If you are looking for chic feminine tailoring with oodles of Parisian flare, then look no further than the Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 collection.

Presented on a colour palette of black, red, white and gold, the collection was fresh and refined with both elegant day and evening pieces with everything feeling very light, even the embellished pieces.

For day, the designer presented ankle-cropped pants, vests, LBDs, wrap skirts, cocoon-shaped jackets, short-sleeved jumpsuits, tailored suits and lady-like dresses.

For the red carpet, things got a little more risqué with an array of sheer pieces, which may or may not be lined by the time they hit the red carpet.

I think in most cases celebs could carry off these sheer pieces as presented on the runway, especially the one with the floral appliqués.

There was also a chic white peplum dress, a gorgeous red dress with a tulip skirt, an embellished gold crop top and skirt plus a floral appliqué dress I would like to also see on the red carpet.

Key accessories included metallic pointy pumps, bracelets and clutches with a GBV logo.

Front Row: Rachel Zoe, Anna Dello Russo, Leigh Lezark, Bianca Brandolini d Adda and Anna Wintour

Favourites: Embellished top with sheer floral skirt and white sheer dress with red lace embroidery

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Olivia Palermo, Jessica Biel, Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, Amy Adams, Elizabeth Banks, Dree Hemingway,Dasha Zhukova, Carey Mulligan, Kirsten Dunst and Camilla Belle

Balmain Spring 2013

Bold and graphic was the key to Olivier Rousteing’s Spring 2013 collection for Balmain.

The highly bedazzled pieces the house is known for were replaced somewhat by bright harlequin patterns plus heavy crocheted and embroidered pieces.

Oliver was inspired by Cuba and its ‘Latin sensuality’, but I have a feeling he was also inspired by Dynasty’s Krystle Carrington and Alexis Colby-Carrington judging by the shoulder pads which were bold, supersized and wide.

Linebacker wide, which will look great in editorials, on the models who wear Balmain religiously off-duty and the editors who borrow the pieces from their office closet.

Anna Dello Russo will of course rock the hell out of this collection, but will celebs be snapping up these bold shouldered pieces for the red carpet?

Time will tell. Whoever she is, she will be a type who likes to take risks.

Crop-tops, leather pants, matador style-jackets, mini-dresses, fitted pants, leather jackets, and a selection of denim pieces took to the runway.

Key accessories included oversized belts, perforated open-toe booties, patent pumps and harlequin cut-out ankle boots.

Front Row: Dree Hemingway, Anna Dello Russo, Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour

Favourites: Tuxedo jacket with leather pants and white halter crop top and leather pants

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Anna Dello Russo, Fan Bingbing, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Zoe Saldana and Lady Gaga

Carven Spring 2013

When we think of Guillaume Henry‘s Carven, we think of cute, whimsical dresses and his signature Peter Pan collars, but for Spring 2013 he gave us those things and so much more.

That’s because the Carven girl has grown up. She now wears chic suits, tailored blazers and longer skirts.

Heart-shaped motifs were either laser cut into sharp blazers or embroidered into dresses, to ensure that the newly grown up Carven girl still has a playful edge.

On a Fall-like colour palette of black, navy, grey and maroon, the collection brightened up midway through with a selection of prints before moving on to shades of nude and beige.

Dresses had cool cut-outs, fit-and-flare silhouettes, tea-lengths and long-sleeved shifts.

I particularly loved the laser-cut leather pieces for an edgier flare and the midriff baring A-line dresses.

Key accessories included chunky ankle strap platforms, platform loafers and leather clutch.

Front Row: Anna Wintour, Dree Hemingway and Anna Dello Russo

Favourites: Printed strapless dress and embroidered blue dress with cut-out detail

Who I Would Like To See Wearing This Collection: Alexa Chung, Michelle Williams, Solange Knowles, Emilia Clarke, Miranda Cosgrove, Kate Perry, Jessica Chastain, Cameron Diaz, Michelle Dockery, Dree Hemingway and Datoka Fanning

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture

The Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture presentation ended my short trip to Paris for Couture Week.

I’m always a bit nervous before an Elie Saab show as I ask myself, ‘What if I don’t like it?’

I didn’t like it, I loved it. Before I could pick myself up off the floor from Karlie Kloss’ stunning opener, another breathtaking gown hit the runway.

Elie may have given us a lot of daywear for ready-to-wear, but it was back to full-on glamorous gowns for Couture.

Inspired by the ‘imperial splendour’ and Ottoman motifs of Constantinople, the colour was surprisingly summery in parts with soft pink, nude, coral and sky blue presented alongside gold, black and teal blue.

The shapes and silhouettes varied from full-length, knee-length sheaths and flirty flared dresses with thin belts nipping in the model’s’ tiny waist.

Every celeb from Elle Fanning to Helen Mirren could select a look or two from this collection, as the designer covered all the bases – even a blushing bride who closed the show wearing an organza-embossed gown with gold brocade leaves.

This season I was most blown away by the embellished details. The magpie in me just couldn’t get enough. Sequins and beads adorned most of the looks which dazzled or gave an antique, vintage feel to the pieces.

My wish list is super long, so here is the edited version.

Who I Want To See Wearing This Collection: Emily Blunt, Diane Kruger, Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett, Rachel McAdams, Lea Michele, Bérénice Marlohe, Zoe Saldana, Katie Holmes, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively and Nicole Kidman.
