Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Mary Katrantzou was inspired by global postage stamps and global banknotes, literally, as they were translated into standout prints which took to the runway on Sunday evening.

For Spring 2013 Mary presented a much looser silhouette with trapeze dresses, free-flowing chiffon dress, boxy sleeves, shirt dresses, sleeveless drop-waist maxi dresses, high-volume skirts and blouson sleeve dresses.

The pieces featuring stamps were presented in shades of blue, white and green and with pops of yellow and orange. There was a break from the colourful prints with a glossy dark blue suit and a green vest paired with a pencil skirt before the collection moved on to evening wear.

This is where the banknote prints came to life on a mixed metallic colour palette created with a Swarovski crystal mesh using a pioneering printed glass technique and fused with silk brocades, ensuring these looks will shimmer on the red carpet.

Christian Louboutin created an amazing collection of ankle boots – some were two-tone, others accented with a wavy stamp trim. We also saw strappy ankle-strap sandals.

Front Row: Anna Dello Russo

Favourites: Stamp-print halter dress with a full skirt, the blue suit plus the banknote sleeveless top and cigarette pants.

The House of Holland Spring 2013 show was my first show during London Fashion Week.

Despite being severely jet-lagged, I was awoken by this fun, bright, colourful collection which will go down very well with his celebrity clientele and fans alike who all arrived in his Fall 2012 colourful houndstooth pieces.

The show started with a head-bopping soundtrack as models took to the runway wearing pieces with a large diamond print in mustard and mauve.

There was more excitement to be had as Holland served up luxe metallic floral jacquards and a multitude of colourful tie-dye mixes.

Every look from the short dungarees, to the oversized shirt, maxi skirts, spaghetti-strap silk dresses, biker jackets, long-sleeve maxi dresses, tunics, blazers, crop tops, shorts and tees looked super comfortable and wearable.

Key accessories included must-have bejewelled beanies, cross-body fold-over bags with crystal accents, and shoes ranging from brogues to strappy sandals.

Front Row: Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof, Leigh Lezark, Lauren Laverne and Poppy Delevigne

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Agyness Deyn, Nicola Roberts, Leigh Lezark, Pixie Geldof and Rihanna

Favourites: Tie-dye shirt with clashing tie-dye skirt and the floral drop-waist T-shirt dress

Marchesa designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman were inspired by the spirit of India in the 60s for their Spring 2013 collection.

With celebrities packing the front row at Grand Central Station on Wednesday afternoon, we were treated to a stunning array of what Marchesa do best: red-carpet dresses and gowns.

Heavily beaded dresses, flirty fringed frocks, delicately draped, sari-inspired gowns, tunics paired with Capri pants, and bejewelled cropped tops worn with pants or floating chiffon skirts proved to be a big hit with the front row and celebrity stylists.

Rich brocades were kept simple and embellishment free, chiffon dresses were tastefully trimmed with gold beaded details and silhouettes stayed true to the Bollywood theme whilst still feeling very modern and current.

Some of you may think some of the pieces are a tad OTT, but I envision them looking even more spectacular on the red carpet.

The colour palette of rich Bordeaux, eggplant and teal green did give the collection a fall-like feel, but with celebs snapping this collection up very soon, those piece would look great on the red carpet come October.

Chartreuse, white, gold coral, orange and pretty pinks made up the rest of the collection.

Gem Palace provided the opulent jewels, Marchesa beaded bags were presented alongside their signature quartz clutches and Christian Louboutin provided the footwear which ranged from flat and beaded to T-bar midi heels shimmering in gold.

This was a favourite presentation this fashion week. Even with three more rounds to go, I can’t see anyone topping this for me. Bring on awards season.

Front Row: Olivia Palermo, Bar Refaeli, Stacy Keibler, Jenna Dewan Tatum, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Sarah Hyland

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Blake Lively, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, Jessica Beil, Amber Heard, Stacy Keibler, Viola Davis, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Camilla Belle, Diane Kruger, Elle Fanning and many more

As I use the morning to catch up on my blog posts, I haven’t been leaving my hotel room in New York City before 11am. The one designer I made an exception for was Michael Kors whose show started at 10am.

My bloodshot eyes were widened by the burst of bright colours which took to the runway. Red, yellow, navy blue, green and white with smoothing digital pool and digital cloud prints added to the mix.

The designer presented a retro throwback to the 60s with bold colour-blocking, leather dresses with gold grommet details, coats and blazers with big collars, and drop-waist skirts with over-sized belts.

Stripes are an unexpected trend for spring. Michael served up an array of chic striped pieces; the navy and red stripes took me back to my Beano comic youth.

Aside from the daywear, there were plenty of red-carpet options; thankfully there was a heavy celebrity stylist presence in the front row.

A white sleeveless top with gold paillettes paired with white cotton shorts would look great on Gwyneth Paltrow.

Glamour girls Eva Mendes, Jessica Biel and Penelope Cruz would look outstanding in the trio of simple black gowns with cut-out details and open backs which closed the show.

Front Row: Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Olivia Munn, Marisa Tomei, Camilla Belle and Katharine McPhee

Favourites: White/gold top with white shorts and black cut-out gown

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Katherine McPhee, Zoe Saldana, Odette Annable, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow, Heidi Klum, Kerry Washington, Nikki Reed, Jennifer Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Hilary Swank, Debra Messing and Blake Lively

The Blonds Spring 2013 collection was all about glamour – as always – but this time with a capital G.

Think Madonna meets Esther Williams at Malibu Barbie’s beach house and you have a collection full of sexy signature corsets, sky-high Louboutin heels, latex uber skinny pants with shark fins and model with platinum blonde wigs with latex headbands.

One of the corsets was an ode to the Christian Louboutin ‘Pensee’ pumps, another had a smeared lipstick print and Phillipe Blond took to the runway wearing a ‘Jaws’ inspired corset.

The final look received the biggest cheer of all as it was a stunning crystallized bodysuit with built in Louboutins.

Boys crashed the beach party some wearing vest and pants, others wearing nothing but tiny swim shorts. We didn’t know where to look.

Front Row: Adam Lambert, Paris Hilton, Natalia Kills, Johnny Wujek, Jay Manuel, Zombie Boy, Rick Genest, and Wynter Gordon

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Kat Graham, Kelly Rowland, Beyonce Knowles, Fergie and Rihanna

Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2013 collection will delight those ladies who lunch and celebs who aren’t afraid of bold colours.

Aquamarine, fuchsia pink, bright yellow and blue were the standout colours along with white, black and grey.

The one thing I never expected to see at an Oscar de la Renta show was latex, but it worked with Karlie Kloss opening in a red latex tank and white slit pencil skirt. Look 24, one of my faves, was an emerald latex tank and skirt paired with a shocking pink embroidered jacket which will appeal to a younger crowd (Lea Michele immediately springs to mind).

This crowd will also love the pink feather-accented bustier with cocktail shorts and the latex leather rose-accented top paired with light pink shorts.

Models with colour-streaked bouffants took to the runway in a variety of looks ranging from classic tweed suits, jumpsuits, a (to-die-for) safari gilet paired with linen pants, shift dresses, pant suits and a beaded tunic paired with matching pants.

I was in heaven as the gorgeous evening gowns floated past my feet. Feminine confections including strapless ballgowns, crushed tulle gowns, beaded and tassel ornament-accented gowns and simple gowns with light ruffles will delight the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Biel.

Key accessories included mini clutches which I at first mistook for iPhone covers, satin ‘Hudson’ sandals, the must-have ‘Charlotte’ laser-cut booties, resin flower necklaces, brooches and dazzling jewels.

Favourites: Latex ensemble with embroidered jacket, white and red threadwork flower embroidered strapless dress and pink and aqua cloque gown

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Jessica Chastain, Anna Wintour, Hilary Swank, Penelope Cruz, Kristin Davis, Lea Michele, Jessica Alba, Emily Blunt, Camilla Belle, Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift and Kate Becksinsale
