2014 Grammy Awards Menswear Roundup

2014 Grammy Awards Menswear RoundupOn the whole, the fashion hit a flat note at the 2014 Grammy Awards, held on Sunday (January 26) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. So I was rather relieved, if not mildly amused, to see the guys turn up the volume on their sartorial statements. Here, a roundup of menswear glimpsed at the show.

Pharrell Williams: The singer-producer, who accepted the record of the year trophy with Daft Punk, couldn’t be missed last night, thanks to his absurdly over-sized Vivienne Westwood Mountain Hat. The rest of the look—a red track jacket, jeans and faded untied boots—took a back seat to the mushy, mountie topper, which naturally drew some silly comparisons and a host of memes. But at least there was some attitude on the red carpet.

Daft Punk: The big winners of the night, the ‘Lucky’ French duo danced their way around in head-to-toe Saint Laurent ensembles. Of course, what really made those dark tuxes and bow ties pop were the silver and gold robot heads, the matching metallic gloves, and the Saint Laurent jodhpur boots in silvery glitter leather.

Armani Prive Spring 2014 Front Row

Armani Prive Spring 2014 Front Row

Celebs gathered to view the Giorgio Armani Prive Spring 2014 show as part of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week on Tuesday (January 21) in Paris, France.

Paloma Faith: Always a delight to behold, Paloma of course opted for something uber glamorous, wearing a black pleated-fan-bodice Giorgio Armani Fall 2013 gown with a velvet skirt for her grand arrival. You may be thinking a gown is a bit OTT for a fashion show, but the show was at 8.30pm and was to be followed by a dinner – and this is Paloma Faith we are talking about, who never does things by halves.

Zhang Ziyi: The Asian actress was considerably more demure, wearing a magenta Giorgio Armani Spring 2014 embellished fitted jacket with black fitted pants, which she styled with black pumps and a black-and-white clutch. This look says everything about Armani: classic, timeless and oh so very elegant.

Kristin Scott Thomas: The English-French actress had the same idea as Zhang Ziyi, but sadly I wasn’t as enthused by Kristin’s execution. I much prefer the runway styling of this look, being orange, black and black rather than Kristin’s orange, orange, black and blue. Swap the orange silk blouse for a black one and lose the navy clutch and I would be more inclined to like this look.

Vanessa Hudgens In Giorgio Armani - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Vanessa Hudgens made a guest appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ on Wednesday evening (January 15) to promote her new movie, ‘Gimme Shelter’.

The actress continued her love affair with all things Giorgio Armani, donning a sexy strapless LBD from the Italian brand featuring an embellished bodice, which she styled with black Saint Laurent ‘Jane’ sandals, onyx earrings, silver rings and a gold Cartier bracelet.

I’m loving the new glam, sexy, sophisticated Vanessa; I hope she can keep this phase going while promoting this movie.

A central-parted updo and red lippie rounded out her look.

Vanessa Hudgens attended the 2014 InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe Awards post-party on Sunday (January 12) in Beverly Hills, California.

The actress, who stars in the upcoming film ‘Gimme Shelter’, wore a slinky

Giorgio Armani gold beaded gown with a plunging neckline styled with complementary jewels.

I always expect a boho offering from Vanessa, but this look reminds me that when the occasion arises she can do sexy glamour quite well.

Wavy tresses and sharp red talons completed her look.

2014 Golden Globe Awards Menswear Roundup

Golden Globes Men 1Flexing their sartorial strength, the guys glammed up for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held last night (January 12) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Here, an overview of the handsome highlights.

Matthew McConaughey: The big victor in the best actor category, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ star was every bit a winner on the red carpet, too. His Dolce & Gabbana three-piece tuxedo featured a surprising emerald-green velvet blazer with contrasting black peak lapels, adding a swoon-worthy twist on the standard. His touch of scruff, meanwhile, was his way of putting a casual-cool spin on this formal entrance. His wife, Camila Alves, also shone rather brightly in a glittery, black Dolce & Gabbana gown that flaunted her enviable curves.

Chris Pine: Rocking the full beard, the actor embraced the classics with an impeccably tailored Ermenegildo Zegna Couture black, peak grosgrain lapel tuxedo, white dress shirt, and black bow tie. He finished the look with Tod’s black patent loafers and a David Yurman gold pinky ring.
