Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Here is the final round up from the 2011 Met Gala.

Salma Hayek wore a costume Alexander McQueen peach organza rose dress. We have all questioned her McQueen choices in the past, but this type of gown is perfect for her. She accessorized with a McQueen clutch and Gucci jewels.

Margherita Missoni is her own best brand ambassador. She was glowing wearing an ombre Missoni Fall 2011 knit dress with a feathered skirt.

Sofia Vergara wore a Carolina Herrera strapless blossom print faille gown. Like Renee she’s found the perfect designer for her. So refreshing not to see her twins spilling out.

Anna Dello Russo chose a masculine military Alexander McQueen look which included a black duchesse satin tailcoat, white shirt and gold fern embroidered pants.

I love the look, she’s been doing the masculine thing a lot lately, but that Egg on her head is bordering on GaGa terrority. Ridiculous.

Thandie Newton wore this sophisticated Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring 2011 tailored grey suit whilst out promoting her movie “For Colored Girls” back in October last year.

Managing to score the outfit just weeks after it walked the runway at London Fashion Week, Thandie looks impossibly chic, adding red studded Stella McCartney heels and a brown suede Miu Miu tote.

Her makeup is flawless and she is simply glowing. I love how the suit fits her so perfectly and that her accessories add some oomph to the grey.

Robin Wright recently wore the same suit to the Washington DC Premiere of her movie “The Conspirator” and what a contrast.

The jacket is very ill-fitting and the pants don’t seem to taper as well on her as they did on Thandie. Paired with nothing but basic black pointed heels, Robin’s look is extremely lack-lustre. I also find the outfit to be a bit of an odd choice for a red carpet premiere.

For me, there’s no question about who the winner is here. Thandie gets it spot on with a better fit, fresh makeup, a chic hairdo and eye-catching accessories. Robin, on the other hand, failed to hit the mark. It’s extremely hard to see past such a poor fit and it doesn’t help that she made zero attempts to jazz up her look with great accessories.

The surprising thing about this edition of WWIB? is that Teresa Palmer wore this Jonathan Saunders Spring 2011 dress first.

Usually that honour would go to someone like Thandie Newton who wore the same dress a few months later.

Teresa attended the 2010 GQ “Men of the Year” Party at the Chateau Marmont in LA back in November.

The new kid on the block wore her grey and turquoise printed dress, which was accented with a black grosgrain belt, with a black clutch and black pumps which disappear into the black carpet.

Thandie also opted to carry a black clutch when she attended InStyle’s Best of British Talent BAFTA party at Shoreditch House in London late January.

Despite not being a fan of white heels, I much prefer them to Teresa black heels, so Thandie easily wins for me. Plus this type of look is typically Thandie and she totally owns the look.

It’s a rather daring look for someone who’s style is more sophisticated and subdued; absolutely a risk, but we think it paid off—majorly.

At the Louis Vuitton party for Sam Taylor-Wood, English actress Thandie Newton went for whimsical with this kooky top knot chignon that sat slightly off-center, right atop her forehead. One part ‘Grey Gardens‘ granny, two parts ‘laissez-faire’ hair, we think Thandie’s on to something. We’re guessing it won’t be long before other stars start pushing their ponys a bit more forward as well—here’s how to get the look before everyone else jumps on the high bun bandwagon:

Step #1: Using a boar bristle brush (helps tame pesky flyaways), sweep hair into a very high position, like 4-to-5 inches off of your forehead;

Step #2: Tautly secure ponytail using a snag-less rubber band, and slip hair through a chignon pillow and push it to the base;

Step #3: Twist the hair around the pillow, and secure with bobby pins;

Step #4: Mist with hairspray to set.

Thandie Newton attended Sam Taylor Wood’s party which was host by Louis Vuitton in London this week. Louis Vuitton threw the party in Sam’s honor because she’s the latest muse for the French brand.

Thandie wore a Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 floral print dress with a drop-waist.

Her shift dress was paired with the sexiest black strappy Jimmy Choo sandals I’ve seen in a while on the red carpet.

The British actress completed her look with metallic silver clutch and flawless make-up.

Earlier this week I mentioned that Thandie is known for a particular hairstyle. Well it looks like she wanted to switch things up at this event because she styled her hair into a super high top knot.

I love how Thandie pulls off this bold look so effortlessly whilst having fun with fashion at the same time.

Thandie Newton is one of those rare people who actually looks more beautiful without make-up.

The British actress attended the EQUALS on film: Oxfam gala screening during the Birds Eye View Film Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London this weekend.

Marni aficionado’s (you know who you are) would’ve instantly recognised her look.

Thandie wore a printed Marni dress and a white and blue coat is from the Fall 2006 collection.

Her casual look was paired with a Miu Miu tote and tan booties.

No matter what the occasion Thandie always look flawless.

I know many of you have complained that she doesn’t vary her hair style often enough, but she always does just enough for me for it not to be a real issue.

I guess when if someone isn’t wearing black all the time I’m not really focusing on the hair.
