2017 Met Gala One-To-Watch: Sarah Jessica Parker

As we wait with bated breath for the 2017 Met Gala, Sarah Jessica Parker has been at the forefront of our red-carpet fashion daydreams.

And why shouldn’t she be? By any definition, she’s a Met regular with a number of memorable gala moments to her name. Even better? She always plays by the rules of the theme.

Take the 2015 Met Gala, for example, celebrating ‘China: Through the Looking Glass.’ Her robe-style gown was H&M, but its unexpected high-street label was nothing short of high fashion when combined with its crown jewel—a fiery, flame-ridden headdress by Philip Treacy.

One of my favourites from SJP was her Giles Deacon look in 2013 for ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture.’ Not only was the gown a metal-splattered masterpiece, her towering mohawk-inspired headpiece was on another level—literally. With over-the-knee boots, she was the punk-belle of the ball that night.

The classics came calling in 2014 for ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion,’ and she answered the call in a dramatically refined Oscar de la Renta gown that was simply swept up in pure elegance.

And, a true oldie-but-goodie is her 2006 ‘Anglomania’ look, which saw her stay true to British form in tartan evening wear by Alexander McQueen complete with a flirty tulle underskirt that was perfect for the ‘Sex and the City’ fashionista.

Which SJP look do you love?

Sarah Jessica Parker In Vera Wang & J. Mendel Couture – 2017 Golden Globe Awards & People’s Choice Awards

Sarah Jessica Parker attended the 2017 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 8) before winning Favourite Premium Series Actress at the People’s Choice Awards 2017 on Wednesday (January 18) in LA.

2017 Golden Globe Awards: We always expect SJP to bring her own quirky, eclectic style to the red carpet. Sometimes it works and, well, sometimes it just doesn’t—like here. She single-handedly turned the red carpet into a wedding aisle with this Vera Wang Fall 2017 Bridal gown, the sleeves of which were the worst offender.

2017 People’s Choice Awards: The original presentation of this J Mendel Fall 2016 Couture bronze metallic dress was mesmerizing. Sadly, SJP cut her version short, added sleeves, and removed the cutouts, turning it into a cross between period costume and bad prom dress.

Sarah Jessica Parker In Christian Dior – ‘Sylvia’ Opening Night

Sarah Jessica Parker In Christian Dior - 'Sylvia' Opening Night

Sarah Jessica Parker was in attendance for the opening night of ‘Sylvia’ at Cort Theatre on Tuesday (October 27) in New York City.

The actress wore a Christian Dior navy polka-dot cotton organdy frock.

While I love the playful spirit in theory, her styling yet again turned me away from the look.

The serious, black blazer didn’t exactly fit well with the exaggerated, bustle-like volume of the dress. But it’s really the handbag, the razzle-dazzle, holographic-like pumps, and unnecessary necklaces that irk me the most.

Sarah Jessica Parker In Zuhair Murad Couture - 2015 New York City Ballet Fall Gala

Sarah Jessica Parker attended the 2015 New York City Ballet Fall Gala at the Lincoln Center on Wednesday (September 30) in New York City.

The actress wore a Zuhair Murad Fall 2015 Couture grey gown featuring plenty of sparking adornments.

While this gown features everything I love: high-glamour and embellishments; SJP’s styling totally ruins the look.

Both the Chanel sequin bag and the SJP Collection pumps kill any hope of me loving this outing.

That bag? Really SJP????

Sarah Jessica Parker In Elie Saab Couture – ‘Hamilton’ Broadway Opening Night

Sarah Jessica Parker In Elie Saab Couture - 'Hamilton' Broadway Opening Night

Sarah Jessica Parker attended the Broadway opening night performance of ‘Hamilton’ at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Thursday (August 6) in New York City.

While this exquisite Fall 2015 gown serves up nothing new, it perfectly showcases the merit of Elie Saab’s haute couture craftsmanship.

Steeped with elegance, I love how SJP puts forth a bold feminine stance without a hint of fairytale princess.

Familiar or not, the sight of an Elie Saab Couture gown on the red carpet still leaves me breathless.
