Hair Trend Spotting: Braids

Hair Trend Spotting Braids 2
There’s no easier way to enhance your everyday hairstyle. Whether it’s a ponytail or a quick fix to keeping your tresses out of your face, celebrities are obsessed this season with braids.

Katy Perry pulled off a lengthy braided ponytail at the 15th NRJ Music Awards. For a full braid like hers clip-in extensions are a must.

Solange Knowles loves wearing box plaits, and she should, because they look great on her. To get this side swept style let the ends unravel freely.

Olivia Palermo, the braid connoisseur, wore two braids with her chignon at the 2013 Marie Claire Prix de la Moda Awards. The key to this look is using minimal product to achieve the ladylike softness.

Zoe Saldana’s braid is perfectly (un) done. For the effortless chic look curl hair first and tie a black ribbon on the tip of the loosely braided coils.

Is it just the celebrities, or are you obsessed with braids this season too?

Dennis Basso Madison Avenue Store Opening

Dennis Basso Madison Avenue Store Opening

Stars gathered to celebrate the new Dennis Basso store on Madison Avenue in New York City yesterday evening. With the temperatures dipping outside, the designer couldn’t have picked a better moment to showcase his furs.

Debra Messing: The actress looks very content in her green mink coat, which she wore over a grey embellished cocktail dress which featured an on-trend sheer hem.

Brooke Shields: Sporting wavy locks, the actress opted to wear one of the designer’s embellished LBDs, which also featured a sheer hemline. Simple black pumps and silver jewels completed her look.

Olivia Palermo: While everyone else opted for a glam embellished frock, Olivia – as usual – marched to the beat of her own drum, wearing jeans and a black top, to which she added a Dennis Basso mink coat. Some of you haven’t been too enamoured with her red carpet choices lately, so how does this one fare?

Olivia Palermo In Burberry Prorsum – ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ Special New York Screening

Olivia Palermo In Burberry Prorsum - ‘Mandela Long Walk To Freedom’ Special New York Screening

Olivia Palermo attended a special screening of ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City last night.

The socialite showed faint signs of finally coming back to her styling senses, although it’s not totally clear if she’s ready to resume her role of “consummately well-dressed.”

In true Olivia fashion, she dressed in a mix of patterns and textures, wearing a black-buttoned trench coat with a patterned collar over a black, sequin-covered Burberry Prorsum Resort 2014 skirt and black cardigan with white buttons.

A quirky black-and-silver flower necklace, black boots, and her go-to dewy makeup and middle-parted hair completed the look.

Is this outfit a reflection of the Olivia we know and love — or is she still doing a little too much and too little all at once?

Olivia Palermo In Whistles – 2013 Marie Claire Prix de la Moda Awards

Olivia Palermo In Whistles - 2013 Marie Claire Prix de la Moda Awards

Olivia Palermo was back to her best at the 2013 Marie Claire Prix de la Moda Awards held at the French Ambassador’s residence in Madrid, Spain yesterday evening following a brief visit to Tokyo for Furla.

The socialite proved that high street can look just as good as high end, wearing a Whistles forest-green top with a chiffon yoke and sleeves and a sequined body with a matching skirt with a banded waist.

Supporting Stuart Weitzman, who was honoured on the night, she complemented her look with Stuart Weitzman ‘Pipenouveau’ animal-print pumps and a gold cabochon-stoned clutch.

Sporting another braided ‘do, she completed her look with kohl-rimmed eyes and a dark-pink lip.

Is she slowing winning you back?

Olivia Palermo In Ashley B – Furla Introduces Spring/Summer 2014

Olivia Palermo In Ashley B - Furla Introduces Spring Summer 2014

Working a Katniss braid, Olivia Palermo attended the Furla Spring/Summer 2014 collection party held at the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures of the Tokyo National Museum in Tokyo, Japan yesterday evening.

The socialite got it so very wrong the last time out, but here works a simpler look wearing an Ashley B mixed fur-and-leather jacket with a black top and leather skinny pants.

No surprises to see her wearing yet another pair of Aquazzura sandals, which she also has in red and black; the only let down is the Furla Spring 2014 two-tone bag, but this was probably given to her to promote at the event, rather than co-ordinating with her Fall look.

Much improved, or is her mojo still at large?

Olivia Palermo In Fendi & Willow – Fendi Buggies Launch Event

Olivia Palermo In Fendi & Willow - Fendi Buggies Launch Event

On Wednesday evening Fendi hosted an event at their Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City to celebrate their new Fendi ‘Buggies’ bag.

Olivia Palermo was in attendance and that halo she has been wearing for so long appears to be slipping if this look is anything to go by.

Usually the queen of getting it oh so right, I feel like there is just a little too much going on here.

Regarding trends, we have the fringe ‘Willow’ skirt (which she also wore last week) and the plaid trend via her shirt.

Her Fendi mink cropped tri-colour jacket, which should’ve been the focal part of this look, would’ve benefited from a black sheer shirt and black skinny jeans.

The only things that get my thumbs up are her red Aquazzura sandals and her Fendi baguette.
