Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Jessica Alba People Choice Awards MakeupThough her white, form-fitting Jason Wu dress was definitely a stunner, Jessica Alba’s gorgeous, bright skin and subtle smoky eye was definitely swoon-worthy. The unpretentious look paired with sleek hair parted down the middle, Jessica’s look gives minimalistic a totally new meaning.

Makeup artist Monika Blunder was inspired by Jason Wu’s Spring 2014 runway show, which featured clean, understated makeup looks.

For Jessica’s look, Monika started with Lancome Teint Visionnaire, smoothing out the canvas for flawless skin. She then followed up with Naked Flushed by Urban Decay and created dimension along the cheekbones and outer perimeters of the face. Next was a dusting of Lancome Blush Subtil Palette in Menage A Trois Glow, a rosy mauve coupled with a pale pink highlighter for extra radiance.

For Jessica’s eyes, Monika kept the look neutral with Lancome Color Design Eye Brightening All-In-On 5 Shadow and Liner Palette in Taupe Crauze. She blended a bit of the soft peach all over the lids to really brighten the eyes and added a hint of glitter to amp up the glam factor. Jessica’s eyes were lined with the Lancome Artliner 24H Eyeliner in Black Diamond for definition.

Her lashes were then sculpted with generous coats of Lancome Definicils Mascara.

Monika finished off the look with a swipe of Lancome Rouge in Love Lipcolor in Fall in Rose, a dazzling pink to really make her lips pop.

The end factor? A beautiful, dewy face and immaculately defined eyes–the perfect compliment to the perfect dress!

Sandra BullockThis past weekend, Sandra Bullock wowed all at the 25th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala in a fresh-faced, rosy beauty look that has me itching for spring. Although this bubbly pink combination might feel a little too young, Sandra’s look reads more mature with a subtle smoky eye and sleek hair. Here are some simple tips to achieve this rosy, updated look.

Eyes: Sandra opted for a sultry bronze smoky eye look. To achieve this softly dramatic look, try Lancome’s Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Bronze Amour. Apply the medium brown shade from the lash line to the crease, softly blending color onto the lid. The must-have makeup artist tip to open up eyes with color is to place a light shimmery champagne shade around the tear duct, as Sandra did with this look. Pick up the lightest shade in the palette and apply accordingly. Pack a liner brush with the shimmery dark chocolate shade and apply to the top and lower lash line. Finally, coat lashes with the luxurious Smokey Extravagant Mascara by Make Up For Ever. The tapered edge of the wand allows you to coat every lash.

Face: The star of Sandra’s pink beauty look is her masterfully blended rosy blush. Make sure not to pick up a shade that is too pink, as that can be too youthful and out of place. To take the guesswork out of picking, celebrity makeup superstar, Edward Bess has created a blush that mimics a natural flushed look with a touch of color. His Blush Extraordinaire comes in three flattering colors which makes choosing the perfect pink tone effortless. Pack some color on to a fluffy blush brush, pat on your hand to remove the intensity on the brush and softly apply to the apples of your cheek, blending outwards.

Lips: Sandra’s pink lipstick made her lips appear pillow soft. To get this look yourself, try a lipstick in a creamy blend like YSL’s Rouge Voupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in 9 Caress Pink. The muted pink tone provides the ideal pink shade that compliments this rosy look well.

Will you dare to try this soft spring look?

2014 National Board Of Review Awards Gala - Inside ArrivalsAt the 2014 National Board of Review Awards Gala on Tuesday, French actress Lea Seydoux stunned with a moody makeup look quite different from what we are typically seeing on the red carpet right now–Understated brows and no mascara–and the look is divine.

Makeup artist Jake Bailey was inspired by the rich colors in Lea’s attire to create a bold jewel-toned lip and subtle gilded eyes.

First, he prepped her face with Sjal Skincare Cela Intuitif Light Cellular Renewal Crème and her lips with By Terry Baume de Rose. Once everything was moisturized, Jake then buffed a small amount of Estée Lauer Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Makeup all over Lea’s face and neck.

Then he set to work on the eyes. Jake used the NARS Balthazar Duo Eyeshadow and focused the gold shade (left) on the inner corners of the eyes, and then used the saffron colour (right) on the middle of the lid and in the crease. Then he took the green shade (left) in the NARS Blade Runner Duo Eyeshadow and applied it to the upper and lower outer corners of the eyes and in the crease for added depth and to pick up the emerald green of her blouse.

Jake left Lea’s brows completely natural–almost unheard of for a red carpet appearance–particularly right now–and simply set them in place using clear brow gel.

On her cheeks, Jake used Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light and mixed equal parts of both shades to create a “glowy, bronzy cream blush” and then blended it onto the cheeks and lightly across the hairline and temples.

Finally, for the bold lips, Jake used Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Wine all over the entire lip and then added a touch more of the By Terry Baume De Rose for some shine.

The result is a look that offers a stunning, understated drama. Perfection.

Beauty Trend Spotting - Pantone’s 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid

Never one to miss a trend, celebrities had a head start wearing Pantone’s 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid. It’s a violet shade with pink undertones, which work well from season-to-season.

Beyonce Knowles, wore the hue on her lips in one of her newest videos ‘No Angel’. You can’t go wrong with a stain that combines the moisture of a gloss. Try Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture À Lèvres Glossy Stain in 16 Pourpre Preview.

Lucy Hale painted the shade on her nails for the 2013 Kid’s Choice Awards. For a shade that compliments any complexion paint on O.P.I. Classics Collection Nail Lacquer in Lucky Lavender.

Naya Rivera showed us how the lavender tone makes brown eyes pop at the FOX All-Star Party. Make eyes pop with NYX Slim Eyeliner in Lavender Shimmer.

If you really love Pantone’s choice, why not try it out on your hair like Kelly Osborne at the 2013 SAG Awards? If you really love the color make a semi-permanent commitment with Manic Panic in Electric Amethyst.

I’m not quite ready to dye my hair, but I’ll definitely wear this lip colour in a heartbeat. How will you wear Radiant Orchid in 2014?

Anchorman 2 Premiere, Sponsored By Buffalo David BittonThroughout her ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ press tour, actress Kristen Wiig has been taking fashion risk after fashion risk, but has kept her hair and makeup simple. Things were no different last night at the New York City premiere of the film.

Kristen’s makeup was quite simple, and she employed two of the best tricks in the book to help widen your eyes and make yourself look more awake.

Considering she’s been globetrotting from premiere to premiere, the actress is likely feeling quite jetlagged at this point, so it was quite smart of her makeup artist to use these tricks.

First up, Kristen’s inner eyelids (the lower waterline) were lined with a white eyeliner. This trick instantly brightens the eye area and any nude-, white- or peach-colored liner creates this effect. Try Merle Norman Inner Eyeliner, which is specifically designed to stay put on that wet area of the eyes, or Blinc Eyeliner Pencil in White, which is also a waterproof formula.

The next trick is to put white eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eyes. This also helps the eyes look wider and more awake. Try Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in White 0 for a matte finish, or if you prefer a pearlized effect, Stila Jewel Eye Shadow in Opal is a great option.

As a final element, Kristen’s makeup artist didn’t bring her upper or lower eyeliner all the way to the inner corners of the eyes, which helps accentuate the white that is there.

Voilà! Wide awake.
