Haley Bennett In Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Couture – 2017 Met Gala

While we may have called out many a star for not exactly embracing the 2017 Met Gala’s avant-garde theme in honour of designer Rei Kawakubo, Haley Bennett will not be part of the guilty party judging by her look of the evening.

As she took to the red carpet on Monday (May 1) in New York City, she brought nothing short of an eccentric flower shop in tow.

Not content to only have an array of blooms embellished across her Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Couture period-style, lace gown, she wore an entire bouquet of faux florals atop her head.

While I want to applaud her for taking a bold fashion risk, there were several elements that were working against her thematic efforts.

The garish makeup being one; and her curled locks that had an ageing effect, being another. I probably would have lopped off the loose doily sleeves, too, to help restore the youthfulness to the look.

My knee jerk reaction was just no. But the more I look at it the more intriguing I find it. She looks like a portrait. Kind of cool actually.

Caricaturesque. Like a virgen in a procession. Horrid at every level. BIGGEST NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I think I couldn’t “dislike” it more than I actually do.

She looks like Effie from Hunger games. Somehow i cannot figure out if it’s a good thing or not

I’m actually loving this- D & G does ” titanic” gown, Marie Antoinette crossed with a poodle hair and all. I want to put her on my mantelpiece next to my antique china.

    Very Marie Antoinette. Don’t like.

Dramatic doesn’t always equal avant-garde. This is beautiful and OTT, but it looks backwards not forwards. I like it, but it isn’t necessarily on theme just because there is a headpiece.

This is messy. Todo much stuff going on.

    Not really liking this

Yi. She looks like shes at a whole different event than the others. This is weird and costumey. Also very ageing.
I wonder what she was thinking.

She literally looks like the a character in a western movie who would run the local saloon. If this were not a Dolce & Gabbana, I would think it was a left over wardrobe item from the Magnificent Seven. And the whole look is very, very aging. Besides Gwyneth Paltrow, this is my worst of the night so far.

I feel like she has worn something very familiar to this before.

I agree that the makeup and excessive curls are not helping her here. At all.

Go for it at the MET gala I say, even if I don’t know what you’re going for.

+1. I’d put her ahead of many others just for trying. And I like pretty.
