Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s No. 21 Spring 2013 collection was feminine with a boyish edge.

We saw sheath dresses, wide-sleeved tops, shirts and dresses, double-slit skirts and wide-legged cropped pants, with clean lines in boxy, oversized shapes.

The colour palette was mostly black, white and blue with pops of red, purple and nude with a playful harlequin print featuring on pieces towards the end of the presentation.

For those who like to sparkle, Alessandro presented some glittery Swarovski crystal-embellished dresses for evening wear, with one dress embroidered with what appeared to be bottle caps.

Key accessories included zipper pouches and satin pumps.

Models sported hot red lips and centre-parted hair swept back off their shoulders.

Favourites: Black lace dress and blue tank top and white skirt

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Diane Kruger, Zoe Saldana, Alexa Chung, Rooney Mara and Liv Tyler

Alberta Ferretti’s Spring 2013 show started with a mood video of crashing waves before the first model took to the runway with wet-looking hair, wearing an ivory-fringed long-sleeve dress with a light chiffon underlay.

It quickly became clear that Ms Ferretti had created a beautiful underwater world where she entranced us with more beautiful ivory beaded and fringed dresses. We then dived deeper into the collection were she unearthed some ocean-blue and marine-green delights including high-shine liquid gowns which looked like a mermaid had just emerged from the sea.

The highlights included a succession of stunning gowns draped with fishnet-like overlays shimmering with paillette embellishments, which looked like water drops, chiffon tops with trains fluttering down the runway plus dresses with intricate embroidered details that, on closer inspection, resembled sea anemones and coral reefs.

Among the red-carpet-worthy gowns we saw shorts, Chantilly lace-embroidered tops, cropped pants, blazers and a beautiful coat.

Key accessories included beautiful beaded drawstring bags, Alexis Bittar jewels and silk ankle-strap slingback heels.

Front Row: Anna Dello Russo, Alessia Marcuzzi and Franca Sozzani

Favourites: Nude gown with a net overlay and nude chiffon top with black lace embroidery paired with black shorts

After Gucci’s luxuriously dark-hued Fall 2012 collection, Frida Giannini lit the runway with a selection of bold tropical colours and vivid prints for Spring 2013.

Inspired by the works of Richard Avedon and Gian Paolo Barbieri’s historic photographs of their female icons, the show opened up with hot-pink dresses and pant suits, some with large ruffles and bell-shaped sleeves.

That wasn’t the last we saw of the ruffles as they decorated a majority of the looks.

On a colour palette of electric blue, ocean blue, aqua blue, grass green and citrus yellow, plus some sumptuous snakeskin prints, Giannini presented a tunic dress, shirt-jackets, silky pyjama-like printed tunics and pants, cocoon-shaped mini dresses, coats with bell-shaped sleeves and maxi dresses, both sleeveless and long-sleeved.

Some of the standout looks included choker necklaces which offset the equally opulent bejewelled earrings.

For the evening, the mood turned to black and white with more ruffles, open backs and plunging necklines.

Oh, how I can’t wait to see this collection on the red carpet – it was made for divas like JLo and those sexy white dresses would great on Kate Hudson.

Key accessories included patent leather ankle-strap sandals, oversized shades, chokers, earrings, cage sandals with ankles accented with the signature horse bit, booties and shoulder bags.

Front Row: Charlotte Casiraghi, Anna Dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld, Dasha Zhukova and Livia Firth

Favourites: Printed ruffle dress with choker necklace and white plunging gown

Who I See Wearing This Collection: JLo, Zoe Saldana, Li Bingbing, Florence Welch, Padma Lakshmi, Alicia Keys, Salma Hayek, Camilla Belle, Eva Mendes, Jessica Biel, Blake Lively, Kate Hudson, Kerry Washington, Gemma Arterton and Anne Hathaway

Considering there were so many ladylike pieces on display, I was surprised that Christopher Kane sought Frankenstein as inspiration for his Spring 2013 collection.

Pretty pink, yellow, white dresses, cardigans, skirt suits and jackets took to the v-shaped mirrored runway on Monday afternoon.

The twist was several of these pieces were accented with plastic nuts and bolts or electrical tape for a typically surprising twist which will delight the likes of Alexa Chung and Leigh Lezark, but for Christopher’s newest fan, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, there were über feminine pretty bow accents.

For those seeking something a lot tougher, Kane sent out models in floral-embossed biker jackets and for the daring the sheer dresses are sure to tantalise.

While there were no gowns, there were plenty of red carpet options. I see the fringed dress making an appearance on the red carpet along with several other pieces including the embellished finale pieces.

Models hair was slicked back into a high ponytail sporty a pale face with dark lower lid eye makeup.

Front Row: Alexa Chung, Leigh Lezark, Daisy Lowe, Poppy Delevingne

Favourites: White pants suit and bow-print chiffon dress

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Rooney Mara, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Alexa Chung, Anna Paquin, Elizabeth Olsen, Emily Browning, Andrea Riseborough, Freida Pinto, Chloe Moretz, Olivia Palermo, Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon, Emma Stone, Rosamund Pike, Jessica Alba, Ashley Olsen, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Yasmin Le Bon and Saoirse Ronan

The Erdem Spring 2013 show started with a selection of snakeskin prints, some accented with pretty blue lace.

Before I could get out my Blackberry to tweet that Erdem Moralioglu had turned his back on his signature florals, look seven’s blooming lace overcoat made me sigh with relief.

On a colour palette of pastel blue, lilac, lemon and pale pink, fit-and-flare ladylike dresses, high-neck tops and dresses with contrasting collars, dresses with sheer overlays, jackets worn over the shoulder, cigarette pants and skirts were adorned with beautiful floral appliqués.

The pieces which really stood out where the ones with striking neon blooms.

Key accessories included lace or floral printed Nicholas Kirkwood chunky platforms, bug-eye sunglasses and driving gloves in lace or snakeskin.

The fresh-faced models’ hair was pulled back into a tight chignon with a touch of orange applied only to the bottom lip.

Front Row: Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung, Michelle Dockery and Caroline Sieber

Favourites: Orange-and-pink halter floral dress and pastel-blue sheer dress with floral embroidery.

Who I Would Like To See Wearing This Collection: Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Nina Dobrev, Miranda Kerr, Keira Knightley, Nicole Kidman, Anna Wintour, Kate Bosworth, Camilla Belle, Ashley Greene, Diane Kruger, Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman

There is a good chance Antonio Berardi was inspired by the 2012 London Olympics this season for his Spring 2013 collection.

Antonio’s sports luxe collection with a sophisticated twist featured plenty of layers, so it will be interesting to see how these looks are interpreted on the red carpet.

On a bold colour palette of neon pink, electric blue with shades of lemon, beige and grey, the designer presented signature tuxedo jackets paired with chic shorts or flared-hem dresses with crossover patchwork panelled bodices and cut-out backs.

Blouses with tails fluttered as the models stormed the runway. Peplums were supersized, jackets were well tailored, pants were fitted and the twelve embellished looks which closed the show delighted the magpie in me.

Even with a heavy mix of sporty looks, the designer didn’t turn his back on his celebrity fans as he incorporated plenty of red-carpet looks with fitted or loose silhouettes, dramatic peplums and sequin details which have BDOTW potential.

Key accessories included Manolo Blahnik for Antonio Berardi strappy sandals and colourful wristlets.

Gucci Westman gave the models a clean, fresh, natural look using Revlon products, while Orlando Pitta used John Frieda products to give the models a sleek side-parted twisted ponytail.

Front Row: Olivia Palermo, Noomi Rapace and David Gandy

Favourites: Electric-blue crossover bodice dress with a white perforated jacket and white dress with layered skirt and blue embellishments

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Olga Kurylenko, Emma Stone, Brooklyn Decker, Eva Mendes, Freida Pinto, Elizabeth Banks, Maria Sharapova, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Amber Heard, Noomi Rapace, Anna Friel and Cameron Diaz
