In Prague yesterday morning as I arrived at the only H&M that had the Roberto Cavalli collection I was told that it was all gone.

“Gone?” I said, “but it is only 9.50am“, 20 mins after the store had opened. I was informed that it was all gone after 5 mins as I damned myself and my inability to have awoken early on this special day.

I did manage to find some remains of the carnage in the dress rooms, nothing in my size of course with my luck, but I tried a few on just for fun. What I found was this range was very well made, unlike the Madonna collection.

At H&M’s flagship store on London’s Oxford Street, fans queued from 5am. And within an hour of the doors opening many items had sold out.

The man himself was at the New York launch on Fifth Avenue as hoards of fans snaked the block.

Cavalli answered questions from reporters and posed for photos as campaign model Jessica Stam did her model thing, wearing a leopard print dress from the collection.

I was very keen to get my hands on this collection, but even if I had been in London I would not have queued from 5am.

Looking on Ebay now 444 items of the collection are already on the site, so all is not lost.

Roberto Cavalli is known as the ‘king of animal print’, and you can see from the preview of his collection for H&M, animal print dominates the collection.

For women, the collection offers silk evening and sequined mini dresses, skinny and wide-leg jeans, ruffled shirts, lingerie, peep-toe shoes and gold accessories. The less exciting menswear collection includes a leather jacket and boots, trench coat, sharp blazers, skinny trousers, underwear and accessories.

You can get a scarf for £19.99, a tuxedo jacket for £59.99 and dresses from £39.99, so it is affordable glamour.

All the pieces are original, although this gold lame gown, the most expensive piece in the collection at only £199.99, looks very much like the Roberto Cavalli Fall 2005 dress Kate Hudson wore to the Skeleton Key London premiere in 2005.

Also this jewel in the collections crown, a gold beaded mini dress, which only costs £149.99, looks very much like the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2004 dress Scarlett Johansson wore to the 2004 Brit Awards, and Britney Spears also wore the same dress to the 2004 NRJ Music Awards in Cannes.

On the red carpet this year, we have seen many celebrities wearing animal print.

They also wear it on their feet too.

Celebrities Love Roberto Cavalli now we can afford to love him too.

Unfortunately I will not be in London the morning of the collections launch, so enjoy the stampede.

Check out Roberto Cavalli’s ad for his H&M collection. It is cheese on toast, but I love it.

Gucci Spring 2008
Black and white was the base of this collection, with bright yellow and bubblegum pink added to various pieces.

This collection had everything from slim trousers, large belts, day dresses, swimwear, short skirts, evening gowns and of course great shoes.

Roberto Cavalli Spring 2008
I expected skin-tight ensembles, thigh high splits, animal print, all sexy, all in your face, but not this time.

Cavalli got romantic. Long, loose-fitting silk dresses decorated with giant tropical flowers or cloudlike coats made of feathers dyed to resemble petals.

The palette was soft nudes, pale pinks, and fluid dresses had watercolour prints of lilies.

A nice surprising change.

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2008
This collection had many delicate pieces, not too delicate that they look too fine and fragile. But delicate enough to caress your skin.

There were many above the knee dresses, skirts, chemise dresses and slouchy pants. Ferretti’s designs were topped off with intricate sequins and bead work.

Emporio Armani Spring 2008
Nudes, pale blues, violets and greys were used for Giorgio’s young Emporio Armani collection, with splashes of silver and sequins.

Looser Knickerbockers were used in this collection, which had also been used in his grown-up Giorgio Armani collection on Monday.

This was a very sexy collection. I especially loved the skirts that appeared knotted at the front.

Here is a first look at Roberto Cavalli’s advertising campaign for H&M.

Cavalli gathered 150 friends and sexy models to his hilltop home in Florence, and used his garden as the backdrop for his H&M campaign, shot by Terry Richardson.

In the shot above Cavalli is surrounded by models in his trademark leopard-print silk dresses, corseted and ruffled halter tops and sequined beaded gowns. Long and short evening looks form the core of the collection of 25 women’s pieces, lingerie, matching accessories and 20 men’s pieces. Many of the pieces I posted in my Sneak Peek.

There will also be a TV commercial to go along with this campaign. Roberto is the star. He emerges on his staircase, the crowd cries: “Mr. Cavalli! Mr. Cavalli! You missed the party!” To which he responds: “How can I miss the party? I am the party”.

As I always say I can not wait for this collection to launch on 8 November.

We have already had a first peak at Roberto Cavalli’s collection for H&M, now here is a second peak, taken from this months Elle UK.

As you can see Roberto’s trademark animal prints will be featured heavily in the collection.

When asked by the interviewer, “What is it with you and animal print?” he responded. “Animal prints are a Cavalli logo. I like nature – I could say God is the most fabulous designer in the world.”

The animal print top left is £39.99, the full length animal print dress is £99.99,the cream bowed, ruffled sleeveless top is £29.99, the gold beaded party dress is £149.99, the tux is £59.99 and the leather tasselled jacket is £149.99.

The most expensive piece in this collection is £200, so it is affordable glamour.

Thanks to Jessi for the scans.
