Solange Knowles For Harper’s Baazar US

Solange Knowles Harpers Baazar

Solange Knowles is living her life out loud and in technicolour for an editorial for shot by Julia Noni for Harper’s Bazaar US.

Fashion editor Joanna Hillman tapped into the star’s love for colour in her editorial, which sees Solange wearing Chanel with a pair of Jeremy Scott by Linda Farrow sunnies that I have to own, as well as Moschino, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.

Solange is a successful recording artist with her own label, an art director, and a creative consultant for Puma, all while becoming a fashion icon with a style all of her own.

You can call her a tastemaker, but in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar she shared how she hasn’t completely come to terms with being labelled as such, saying ”I’ve always had an annoying relationship with the term ‘tastemaker,’ but it’s been a defining part of my career for the past couple of years.”

Solange talked to the magazine about her journey in the music industry, dating losers and divorce. Here are some extracts. You can read the rest over at HarpersBazaar.com.

On her personal style: “You can pull images of me from seven to 14 years ago and I was absolutely nuts. I have always been drawn to interesting pieces and colours, but I didn’t quite know how to limit myself and make those statement pieces work. I had to stabilize our lives and stay in one place. It sounds silly, I know, but having space for my clothes made a huge difference. I was able to get organized, free myself of clutter, and develop a style that felt like me.”

On following in Beyonce’s footsteps: “My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist. They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life.”

On her love life: “Luckily, I dated all of the losers ages ago. My love life has been stable for a while,” she says, adding wryly “It’s a fucked-up thing—without conflict it’s a lot harder to write interesting songs.”

Solange Knowles Front Row @ New York Fashion Week

Solange Knowles NYFW

The usual suspects have been spotted front row at shows during New York Fashion Week but one girl has stood out, managing to look effortless and stylish as she hopped from show to show wearing fancy footwear, avoiding snow boots at all costs.

Noor by Noor: In her Pre-Fall 2014 outfit, the singer layered a blue printed sweater over a striped shirt, opting for a conservative black skirt, with standout Michael Kors ‘Sahar’ pumps and a chic white Kate Spade New York ‘Georgica Road Emmanuelle’ clutch rounding out her look.

Milly: I had to catch my breath when I saw this look. It might be too bold for some but I’m buying everything she’s selling here, from the electric-blue Milly coat and matching faux-fur-trimmed clutch to the orange separates and pink Rupert Sanderson ‘Elba’ pumps that matched her lip colour. I think I even prefer this look over her Carven outfit.

Honor: Turning down the dial on colour, the singer wore an Honor look consisting of a sheer blouse, black collarless blazer and printed double-split skirt, styled with terracotta Rupert Sanderson ‘Elba’ pumps and an M2Malletier ‘Amor Fati’ leather shoulder bag with a gold needle handle.

Solange Knowles In Carven - Miu Miu Women’s Tales 7th Edition -’Spark & Light’ Screening

Solange Knowles attended the Miu Miu Women’s Tales 7th Edition ‘Spark & Light’ screening held at Diamond Horseshoe on Tuesday (February 11) in New York City.

The singer either didn’t get the memo or she did what she does best: march to the beat of her own fashion drum.

Looking possibly her best yet, Solange had me at those bright-pink Rupert Sanderson ‘Elba’ pumps, but everything here is setting my fashion senses on fire including her off-the-shoulder Carven Resort 2014 frock with playful ruffled sleeves.

Green and pink? Who else could make these colours work so perfectly together?

While the green eye shadow may have been just one step too far for some, the look is flawless from H2T for me.

I’ll be checking this in my BDOTY file.

Solange Knowles In Azede Jean-Pierre – Spotify and Troy Carter Pre-GRAMMY Music + Tech Party

Solange Knowles In Azede Jean-Pierre - Spotify and Troy Carter Pre-GRAMMY Music + Tech Party

Solange Knowles attends the Spotify and Troy Carter Pre-GRAMMY Music + Tech Party held at Atom Factory on Thursday (January 23) in Culver City, California.

Working a blunt cut ‘fro Solange wore a Azede Jean-Pierre Spring 2014 cropped jacket with a standing collar, three-dimensional insect embroidery, and bracelet-length sleeves with matching skirt with a saddle hemline which she has worn back to front as the original skirt has a high-waistline.

I love that once again she is not following the herd, supporting lesser-known designers, making the look her own and wearing it well.

Beyonce Knowles In Naeem Khan – 60th Birthday Masquerade Party

Beyonce Knowles In Naeem Khan - 60th Birthday Masquerade Party

Beyonce Knowles attended her mother’s 60th birthday masquerade party in New Orleans on Saturday (January 11), which was also attended by her sister Solange Knowles, Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland, and ‘DreamGirls’ co-star Jennifer Hudson.

The singer looked stunning wearing a Naeem Khan Resort 2014 blush V-front caviar-beaded tulle gown with a selection of gold Lorraine Schwartz jewels including stunning teardrop earrings and, of course, a mask, which was embellished with sequins.

Mama Knowles in the middle is looking just as beautiful as her daughters in a breathtaking black-caramel-and-metallic-copper gown with waist-narrowing capabilities.

Solange opted for a Cedric Charlier Resort 2014 canary-yellow strapless gown, adding some sparkle via her multi-coloured mask.
