Nieves Alvarez In Stéphane Rolland Couture - 'Shan He Gu Ren' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Nieves Alvarez attended the ‘Shan He Gu Ren’ (‘Mountains May Depart’) Premiere during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

The Spanish beauty wore a look from Stéphane Rolland’s Spring 2015 Couture collection which has many gorgeous pieces, but I can’t get on board with this choice.

I’m mostly put off by the nude chiffon appliqués at the hem of her dress which don’t translate so well off the runway.

Perhaps my feeling towards this dress would’ve been more favourable had they been in a bolder colour like orange or red to look like a burning flame, but even then this dress just doesn’t live up to any of her previous Cannes offerings.

‘Youth’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere Red Carpet Roundup

youth cannes film festival premiere red carpet round up

Here is a roundup of the other attendees at the premiere of ‘Youth’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

Chanel Iman: I’m not surprised that Chanel served up one of the few Cannes-worthy gowns from this group. The model is forever in Cannes mode with her love of pretty princess gowns. She’s clearly in her element here wearing Donna Karan Atelier – despite the long face.

Joan Smalls: The model made her first appearance on the red carpet at Cannes wearing an Alaïa white two-piece breezy look. While this is more Independent Spirit Awards than Cannes, I can’t deny how gorgeous she looks.

Rachel Weisz attended the premiere of ‘Youth’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

The actress wore a beautifully designed Prada gown featuring a sultry keyhole detail, which she styled with dazzling drop earrings and a simple black clutch.

I really wanted to love this gown – the colour is divine on her – but I think the fabric is terribly unforgiving.

Jane Fonda attended the premiere of ‘Youth’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

The actress wore a Schiaparelli Couture gown for the occasion.

Schiaparelli’s designs can be a little bit out there, but I found myself totally perplexed by this offering.

From the neck up Jane is serving up glamour, but from the neck down I’m wondering if Halloween came early or she raided Morticia Addams’ closet.

The look feels too sombre for Cannes, and far too theatrical. The only place I see this working is at the Met Gala.

Cartier jewels, a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and Roger Vivier shoes completed the look.

Araya A. Hargate attended the premiere of ‘Youth’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

Making her second appearance at Cannes, the Thai actress stunned again wearing a Giambattista Valli Fall 2014 Couture gown.

It’s the delicate ruffled tiers which enhance the romantic mood of this ethereal look.

Were the earrings a tad much? I would say no, but then I’m too busy being captivated by her gown.

Aishwarya Rai attended the premiere of ‘Youth’ during the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.

The Indian beauty made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up again, sweeping the red carpet in this architectural design from Ralph & Russo’s Fall 2014 Couture collection.

Aishwarya tends to go for the more glamazon gowns, leaving the more artistic pieces to her fellow L’Oréal ambassador Sonam Kapoor, so this look was unexpected but very much welcome.

We wanted drama and Aishwarya certainly delivered, but is this her best so far at Cannes?
