Two-time Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain covers the December 2013 issue of American Vogue, which is, surprisingly, her first cover for the mag.

Annie Leibovitz captures Jessica as she recreates classic paintings wearing Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and Alexander McQueen. Even the cover is art-inspired as Jessica wears a yellow Theory by Theyskens gown evoking the image of Frederic Leighton’s famous ‘Flaming June’ painting.

She talks to Vogue about her life and how she’s very shy, and her best friend Jess Weixler talks about the star’s strong work ethic.

You can read some extracts below or go to Vogue.com. The December issue hits newsstands November 19.

On her life: “My life has gone, you know, a little wonderful and crazy.”

On her confidence: “I did not feel like a beautiful woman that people would kill each other for. Jessica – who I am in my personal life – I’m very shy, I feel very awkward, I don’t feel like a femme fatale at all.”

Jess Weixler, her best friend from Juilliard, on young Jessica: “She’s always been unbelievably focused. It used to drive the guys crazy. ‘Why won’t Jessica stay up late?’ There were a few times when I was like: I can’t believe she’s waking up on a Saturday to go to an extra class.”

Jessica Chastain In Chanel Couture - An Evening Honoring Karl Lagerfeld

Jessica Chastain attended An Evening Honoring Karl Lagerfeld held at Alice Tully Hall in New York City yesterday evening.

She could’ve worn Fendi, or Karl’s ready-to-wear line, but instead she wore the brand he is most known for: Chanel.

Selecting a look from the Fall 2013 Couture collection, the black-and-white tweed dress with an A-line skirt features white beads, grey sequins and origami effect flowers on the sleeves and skirt.

Usually my love for a Jessica Chastain look is instant, but I find myself feeling like this backless dress is a tad too twee for the actress and I am not a fan of the accessories either.

On the plus side, her makeup is flawless and I love the braided updo.

Jessica Chastain In Dolce & Gabbana - TIFF HFPA InStyle Party

Jessica Chastain joined Jennifer Morrison and Emilia Clarke at the InStyle & Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual party, hosted by Salvatore Ferragamo during the Toronto International Film Festival at the Windsor Arms Hotel on Monday.

The actress selected a Dolce & Gabbana cocktail frock in a shadowy petrol hue to set off her fiery red locks.

Although the black lace-tipped doily design wasn’t my favourite piece I’ve seen on Jessica, the styling didn’t do much to elevate the look either.

Plain black pumps, simply styled locks and barely-there makeup, with just a brush of pink lipstick, fell a bit flat from a distance.

Jessica Chastain In Atelier Versace - 'The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby Him And Her' Toronto Film Festival Premiere

Actress Jessica Chastain also had her producer’s hat on while attending ‘The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby: Him And Her’ premiere during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival held at The Elgin yesterday evening in Toronto, Canada.

She looked divine wearing a dreamy turquoise Atelier Versace chiffon dress with an asymmetrical hem and draped detail from the nipped-in waist.

The reason this look is so dreamy is because the colour complements both her pale skin and her flame-red hair, plus with minimal makeup her aquamarine Irene Neuwirth earrings really brings out her green eyes.

Gold Versace sandals completed her look.

Jessica Chastain In Alex Perry - 2013 Giffoni Film Festival Portrait Session

Jessica Chastain looks beautiful while posing for a portrait session during the 2013 Giffoni Film Festival on Sunday in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.

Having being presented the Giffoni Experience Award earlier in the day, she changed into this Alex Perry ‘Oksana’ dual-colour black-and-peach halter dress with an exposed front zipper from the Australian designer’s 75001 collection.

Those familiar with Alex Perry’s work will see that this sporty frock is a more youthful change of direction for the designer known for his bridal and special-occasion wear.

Not taking the colour palette of her dress into consideration, the actress styled her look with a pair of Christian Louboutin ‘Batignolles’ pumps, which are currently the go-to white heels – Miranda Kerr also wore them yesterday.
