Lupita Nyong’o In Prada – 2014 Met Gala

Lupita Nyong’o In Prada - 2014 Met Gala

Lupita Nyong’o marched to the beat of her own (and Miuccia Prada’s) fashion drum as she hit the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala, hosted on Monday (May 5) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

I couldn’t wait to see what the actress, style-setter and Miu Miu Spring 2014 campaign model would be wearing to the Met’s fashion extravaganza. She certainly left me speechless in her custom Prada concoction.

In one of the riskiest (to put it mildly), more excessively theatrical sartorial moves of the evening, Lupita paraded out the emerald-green netted dress, assembled with glass beads, crystals and chandelier drops and enhanced with cascades of feathers down the sides and at the bottom hem.

Worn over a brown slip dress, this design had precious little in common with the refined, classic looks in the Charles James exhibit. But it’s hard to deny that she is not rocking it like a pro.

Forget the gala, Lupita’s dress was the party, and the fun only continued with her matching emerald headband, military green suede sandals embellished with large stones and a green raso clutch, all by Prada.

Her hair even seemed to be highlighted with a shade of deep plum to embolden the look further—as if it needed it.

I am still waiting for the shock to wear off. This statement will definitely go down in Met Ball history. What do you make of it?
