Carey Mulligan In Preen – 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards

When I saw Carey Mulligan on the red carpet at the 2010 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards I thought finally a youthful, fresh, interesting look.

Carey has long been dressing as if she’s much older, thus making it hard for many of us to relate to her or like her style.

Last night she became the first actress to wear a look from the recent Preen Spring 2011 collection.

I love this Preen beaded and bonded dress.

I would even go as far as saying her stone textured beaded sleeveless top and black A line skirt look better on Carey than the model.

Does Carey read my blog?

Because she wore an electric blue pair of YSL Palais pumps when black pumps would’ve been the most obvious-safest choice.

Either way I’m liking this new direction.

Sleek hair and flawless make-up completed her look.

    Je t’adore

She looks fabulous, but the blue shoes are little strange. I can see what she was trying to do, but I think a red shoe would’ve been a better choice or maybe a dark purple?

    Perfection!

I like it a lot, and I covet those shoes!!

Wow I just knew she’s so pretty.

I like it better on her than the model, which is strange considering she’s so tiny.

I’d kill for the top alone. So gorgeous..

    I hate this look.

Usually I don’t like the dresses that she wear, but nothing works for me here.
And her make up.. Is she sick, or something?
    I love the shoes, though.

I think her pose bugs me the most next to her shoes. The skirt is to heavy to be pushing one’s pelvis into the spotlight, making it the focal point of this look. It ends up overwhelming her tiny frame and the gorgeous top.

I am loving the dress, hair and makeup, but I am on the fence about her shoes. While I am over the moon they’re not black, I cant help but think that maybe it would’ve been better if she wore some strappy heels of the same color, or different color pumps, some interesting grey or darker blue maybe.

Love this, except for the shoes – I like that hit of color, but the purple and the texture isn’t quite right for me…..still, i do really like this….

She always looks so dead and like a walking corpse. This look doesn’t change that. I would have liked the look better with red shoes. She has yet to wow me.

    love her here

its a step in teh right direction…but she does look a tad washed out…

As I scrolled down I thought WOW -then I got to the feet-sorry but the shoes are too contrived .

Meant to also say I think that a pair of Leopard print tribs would have been more elegant . I actually own the Palais shoes and just don’t think they work with the cream top.

The shoes killed it for me. Big blue feet don’t work with this awesome dress, which does indeed look better on Carey than the model.

    She looks awesome. Love it.

FINALLY!!!!!!!! I knew she could wow us and she really did her homework! The dress is pretty fantastic on her and it doesn’t age her. The blue pumps are simply divine. LOVE IT.

She looks chic, comfortable, stylist, young, but not juvenile, like she put in effort but not try-hard. She looks easily better than the model.
Somewhere Shia Laboeuf is kicking himself.

    • Christina November 5, 2010 at 11:31 pm #

My thoughts exactly. I guess breaking with Shia was a good thing.

  19. Claudia November 5, 2010 at 1:32 pm #

First thing I noticed was the shoes.
I absolutely adore this look from head to toe.
She’s looks divine and young. Finally!! 😉

my ONLY gripe is i wish the shoes were a teensy bit more delicate. but otherwise, A++

  21. Tahj November 5, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

I love this. She looks so sleek and polished. And she got the skirt just right. Most people have been going overboard with the big skirt.

  22. Fiona November 5, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

Perfect, I love the hair colour and style and I also think that Carey looks better than the model. She looks good and she knows it, beautiful.

  23. alexa November 5, 2010 at 1:25 pm #

Carey looks incredible. I completely agree – she looks better in the dress than the model because her bust (more than the model’s) draws attention back to her slender waist.
I love the lavender-coloured suede pumps too.

    Utterly gorgeous.

    see=she 😉

  25. artemis November 5, 2010 at 1:24 pm #

I thought exactly the same thing!..see must read your blog! I love the shoe choice!!I think it upgrades the look!

    • mm November 5, 2010 at 1:39 pm #

      I agree!

  26. Alina November 5, 2010 at 1:22 pm #

    Beautiful!
    Love the hair!

  27. Rachel November 5, 2010 at 1:20 pm #

Perfect and fresh! Like Simon Cowel would say: “A breath of fresh hair!” lol. BDOTW contender for me.

    • Anna November 5, 2010 at 3:16 pm #

I agree on the BDOTW worthy absolutely!

  28. nicky November 5, 2010 at 1:18 pm #

i LOVE this look. she wears it so much better than the model. she looks adorable, youthful and stylish. her hair and makeup is pefect. i wouldve preferred another pair of shoes as the texture doesnt quite work with the look…but better than black pumps anyways!

  29. Jo November 5, 2010 at 1:04 pm #

    WOW!
