2009 Costume Institute Gala – Best Dressed

Magnifique. Très bon.

Marion Cotillard gives me my first set of goosebumps of the night wearing a blush pink Christian Dior strapless gown, with an embellished criss cross detail. The dress is so buttery and luscious I’m melting.

Her hair is perfectly coiffed, make-up barely there, head to toe perfection, minus the rain that soaked her hem.

Early days, but I think I have my Best Dressed of the night.

Love dress, the shoes, the big bouffant hair and the attitude.

I was half expecting Anne Hathaway to turn up in a gown, but this cute violet Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 strapless number is cute, sassy, and totally unexpected.

Her look is completed with Pour La Victoire metallic Bethanie strappy platform sandals.

Wow, a Blake Lively look I like.

The Gossip Girl actress wore a one-sleeved chiffon Versace Fall 2009 teal gown, with a thigh high split, and gold strappy heels.

She maybe pushing the sexy envelope too far, but she’s working the hell out of this dress.

Ashely Olsen wore an ice white The Row gown, with a cowl back, which is oversized -as we would expect- but very elegant on her.

It’s a cold and rainy night in New York, so one can forgive Jessica Alba’s tights, because her strapless cobalt blue mini Jason Wu dress with an embellished bodice is quite exquisite.

Kate Beckinsale always brings the drama. She loves a big gown, and it doesn’t get much bigger than this Marchesa Fall 2009 gown.

What you may not see on the embroidered midnight blue ruffle tulle tank dress, is the crystal embellishments all over the skirt of the gown.

I don’t love Eva Mendes’ gown shimmering Calvin Klein gown, but I don’t hate it either.

Had this been the Oscars or the Golden Globes, I would have been bitterly disappointed, but as the campaign girl for a brand that produces minimalist clothes, we shouldn’t have expected too much glamour.

It doesn’t exceed expectations, and it doesn’t disappoint, but Eva sparkle is missing.

How does she do it?

How does Kate Moss arrive at this event wearing a turban, and still hit HOT?

Milliner Stephen Jones designed the metallic turban, which is not going to be to everyone’s liking, but I love it.

It truly was a risk that paid off.

The supermodel is wearing gold lamé Marc Jacobs asymmetrical dress, which shows off her stunning pins, with matching gold lame heel.

Matchy matchy never looked so good.

Bar Refaeli showed off those impossibly long legs, wearing an asymmetrical organza pleated strapless Marchesa dress, with embroidered detail on the bust.

Matching Louboutin’s complete the look.

Outstanding.

I’m so glad Diane Kruger didn’t wear this Chanel Spring 2009 Couture white mini dress with floral appliqué’s, as it was presented the runway.

I’m not so crazy about the black heels, but other than that she looks fantastic, giving the look a youthful, girlie quality.

As Uncle Karl is not there, her beau Joshua Jackson walked the red carpet with her.

Marion kinda lukewarm. I prefer her dramatic Oscar gown.

  4. Rogue May 5, 2009 at 1:41 am #

What a surprise: Ashley Olsen wears something that’s wide and white (love her new bob!), Eva Mendes something that’s tight and shiny, and Gisele looks cheap, like a local disco hostess!

  11. Rogue May 5, 2009 at 1:28 am #

Diane: yes, yes, girly, youthful, frothy and all that, but why a short-skirted dress with pumps for the second year in a row?

  12. Nik May 5, 2009 at 1:27 am #

I think Kate Bosworth is also set to wear Chanel (duh) tonight lol

  13. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:26 am #

I think the make up is horrendous, and I’m over Trib II’s in every color and fabric.

    L A M é O R G A S M !!!
    Love the blue stones!

  18. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:18 am #

Who is the blonde woman behind Cyndi? Maybe Donatella??

  19. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:15 am #

I forgot to mention that I’ve seen an exact type of look from Diane Kruger numerous times and I still can’t figure out ..what she actually does? She’s so dull I don’t even want to google her. She’s had a couple of great shows in the past, but this is so very deja vu.

  20. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:13 am #

I don’t love Marion’s makeup but otherwise she looks fantastic! That’s such a gorgeous color and she looks comfortable and confident because she didn’t over do it and give in to the pressure of this event. and I love Galliano right behind her!

Wow..Ashley looks so much better than the way she has looked in the past for this event. I’m not in love with the dress but she herself looks great.

Cindy…that’s really tacky and the wrong kind of matchy matchy. Eeesh

Eva Mendez has always bored me and she didn’t do anything more here.

KATE MOSS FOR PRESIDENT. I love this woman, I hate turbans but she makes me love them. I like the makeup I just hate Jacobs on her arm. He’s the most overrated designer to date.

  21. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:12 am #

LOVE ASHLEY IN THAT CHRISTIAN LACROIX GOWN, SIMPLE BUT ELEGANT, ALSO LOOOOOVE HER NEW HAIR CUT–SOO CHIC!

  22. robbie May 5, 2009 at 1:11 am #

she looks nice, but she doesnt really wow me to be honest, too matchy matchy. personally i find marc jacobs to be VERY overrated. her legs are hot though.

  23. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:10 am #

Cyndi Crawford’s dress is AMAZING! I’m so sorry for Vistoria Beckham! 🙁

  24. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:04 am #

Anne H looks fantastic with big hair. She is a beautiful girl but something always seems amiss… like her features dont fit… but ALL she needed was bigger hair to even it out

  25. Guest May 5, 2009 at 1:03 am #

    WOW, Anne Hathaway looks AMAZING!

  26. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:59 am #

Jessica Alba looks awful. Red lipstick with a bright blue dress? Yucky. This is the time to be annoyed with tights because they don’t go with the dress whatsoever.

I don’t really like Anne’s beehive hair. the dress has enough volume it just feels a little too much. Thus far I haven’t been blown away just yet the way I was with Camille Belle and Cameran Diaz’s Zoe style Dior from past years.

  27. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:58 am #

mmmm, i dont think cyndi crawford deserve to be in the best dressed list, she look nice, but the tihgt high split its a bit TACKY!!!

im not wooowed either by eva mendes, bu what can we expect from calvin klein? —-> minimalism!

Gisele wowed me,in short blue dress with endless legs)simply gorgeous

  29. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:56 am #

Kate Bosworth disappoints in her black Stella, Kirsten Dunst so far the winner in indigo Chanel.

  30. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:55 am #

Anne’s hair doesn’t look like a beehive to me, but she looks stunning.

  31. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:51 am #

They all look nice, but nothing wows me.

  32. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:50 am #

Nik, Bosworth is probably wearing Stell McCartney.

  33. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:48 am #

Vic Beckham even more tanned than Jessica Biel, otherwise SO HOT!! She left the shift dress at home!

  34. Guest May 5, 2009 at 12:48 am #
