The Rest Of The Best & Worst @ The Costume Institute Gala

Best Of The Rest

Unfortunately pictures of ladies did not come through until later on today, but they are so fabulous, that they deserve to get a mention.

Diane von Furstenberg, and Joy Bryant are equally colourful in their gowns.

Joy works this turtle-neck gown well, in a way that Rachel Bilson could not pull off.

Natasha Richardson gave Beyonce a run for her money in being "pretty in pink".

Melania Trump knows how to "bring over the top" glamour, in a way I adore. The colour, the volume, the pose, the sexy silhouette all scream "Look at me".

Ellen Barkin is has a very sexy silhouette in her black gown with jeweled detail.

Venus Williams' mocha taffeta dress is stunning on her, despite the fact she was dressed by André Talley.

Tamara Mellon wore a sexy black satin gown.

Janet Jackson wore a ice white Fall 2008 halter neck silk jersey gown, with silver embroidery on the halter.

Rosamund Pike appears to be the brand ambassador for Roland Mouret, as this is the third red carpet event in a row she has worn the designer.

Ivanka Trump is quite the ice princesses in her chiffon gown.

How cute is Chanel Iman? So full of personality and she has a gorgeous ruffled dress to match that personality.

Jourdan Dunn opted for a purpled feathered mini creation.

Karolina Kurkova shimmers in her gown.

The supermodels show us exactly why they have earned their titles.

Helena Christensen sparkles, Christy Turlington stands out in red, Liya Kebede has a sexy slick silhouette, and Claudia Schiffer is adorable the baby blue ruffled gown.

Bee Schaffer and Lauren Bush both opted for purple. Bee's dress was a gorgeous strapless ombre ball gown that is full of volume and has a thunderous storm feeling to it, whilst Lauren opted for a simple one-shouldered gown.

Worst

Stephanie Seymour, Donna Karan and Liv Tyler's dresses all speak for themselves.

Source

Haven't I Seen Something Similar Like That Before?

It looks like the Burberry's Creative Designer Christopher Bailey took some inspiration for Cat Deeley's feathery black dress, which she wore to the Costume Institute Gala last night from Mary-Kate Olsen's feathery (some say Lily et Cie, some say Giambattista Valli) dress which she wore to the same event last year.

Uncannily similar, and both accentuated with a black belt.

Even the pose in this picture is the same.

Costume Institute Gala - Best Dressed

Best Dressed Award
Camilla Belle NEVER lets me down. She is always stunning, always well put together and always smiling so beautifully.

Last night she wore a gorgeous Armani Privé Spring 2008 gown.

The aquamarine silk organza tiered gown had an origami Swarovski crystal encrusted ribboned one shoulder strap, with the same detail on the hip.

Pretty In Pink Award
No glitter, no over the top bling (apart from her wedding ring), no big hair, just Beyonce letting this Giorgio Armani Privé pale pink strapless silk organza gown speak for itself.

Her hair was pulled back to reveal those amazing earrings.

That shade of pink lipstick beautifully to compliments her gown.

Not a hint of Tina Knowles. Adore her.

Best White Award
Naomi Watts wore a Theirry Mulger pleated white halter gown with jeweled detail and matching pleated throw, which evokes images of old Hollywood glamour, especially with her beautifully styled hair.

If not for Camilla, she would have won Best Dressed.

Best Ruffles Award
Kate Mara's canary yellow Zac Posen Spring 2008 one shouldered belted gown is stunning. I am glad she wore her hair back to allow the dress to shine.

Best Black Award
Ziyi Zhang always looks stunning in Giorgio Armani Couture. She last wore an Armani Privé gown to one of the Oscar parties this year, and last night she dazzled in another Giorgio Armani Spring 2008 Couture gown.

This black one shoulder silk organza gown has a fitted bustier, with black patent and Swarovski crystal details with origami-like ribbon flowers that cascade down the skirt.

Golden Girl Award
Taylor Swift definitely the golden girl wearing a Badgley Mischka Fall 2008 gold and bronze ombré sequin and crystal fishtail gown. The colour works well with her milky skin.

She accessorize her look with Badgley Mischka Couture shoes, Badgley Mischka jewelry and a gold Badgley Mischka clutch.

Drop dead gorgeous.

Best British/Blatant Copy Award
Although Cat Deeley's feathery Burberry dress is almost an exact copy of Mary-Kate Olsen's dress from last year, she does look amazing in it.

Best Versace Award
Many others wore Versace last night, but Amber Valletta's stood out for me.

I adored this Versace Couture Spring 2008 metallic blush gown with and voluminous shoulder detail when it was first presented back in January. I imagine it on an exotic beauty like Penelope Cruz, but Amber more than does this dress justice.

Thank God It's Not Black Again Award
Bravo for Mr Armani for getting the stunning Julia Roberts in something other than black.

She is amazing in this platinum Giorgio Armani Privé gown.

The scooped neckline is delightful, and is accented by an antique brooch.

The beading on a mesh overlay really brings this gown alive.

Most Daring Award
Lake Bell is usually a cute dresses type of girl, but went vampy in this Balmain Fall 2008 crystal-embroidered lightning bolts leather dress and Burberry heels.

Best Cape Award
Bravo to Thandie Newton for being one of the only celebrities to wear a cape to this Superhero's event. Her strapless lace dress and cape is from the Chanel Fall 2008 collection.

Best Snap-Back Award
Did Jennifer Lopez really have twins?

You would not think so seeing her here in this asymmetric tiered gown, with jeweled detail. Back to her beautiful best.

Most Improved Award
I hated Sarah Larson's Oscar dress, so I was happy to see her improve dramatically, in this black vintage Giorgio Armani black one-shouldered beaded silk jersey gown, from the Spring 1997 collection.

Best Va Va Voom Award
Gisele Bündchen not only brought along Tom Brady, who looks very dapper in his Versace suit, but she also brought her A game. I swear my chin almost hit my table when I saw her in this pink Versace Fall 2008 halter-neck gown.

S T U N N I N G.

Best Superhero Theme Award
In this silver embroidered dress Chanel Haute Couture dress, Anna Wintour is very much living up to the "Superhearo" part of the "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" theme.

She looks like she could save the world in this dress.

Who needs a clutch when you have those pockets?

Best Fantasy Theme Award
Scarlett Johansson wore Dolce & Gabbana, but it was her huge ring that most people were looking out for, following her announced that she and actor Ryan Reynolds were engaged.

She was one of the few that got into the spirit of the event, wearing this cute nude fairy ensemble.

Best De Ju Vu Award
When I saw Eva Longoria in this Marchesa Fall 2008 strapless ruffled gown, I instantly thought of Lucy Liu's Zac Posen dress to the same event last year, and Jessica Alba's Oscar dress. But Eva stands alone looking drop-dead gorgeous in her own gown.

For once the dress is not skin-tight nor does it have an open back.

Most Daring Award
Ashley Olsen's black keyhole dress was custom-made by Diane von Furstenberg and she looks amazing and very sexy in it.

Maybe Ashley felt a little self conscious in her dress, because I could not find one photo of her not at her sister side.

She is still loving the nude make-up I see.

Best Yellow Award
Molly Sims always turns it up a notch on the big stage. Last night she wore a stunning haltered yellow Versace Spring 2008 jersey gown, with gorgeous Chopard jewels.

Best Strapless Award
This Michael Kors dress that Mary J Blige is wearing is simple, yet not boring, sophisticated and well suited to her shape.

Her earrings are slightly over the top, but I can forgive that for her looking so amazing in this dress.

Best Mini Award
For this prestigious event you would not expect many to wear a mini cocktail dress, but Diane Kruger did, and with amazing results wearing Alberta Ferretti.

The dress was gathered throughout and had a jeweled detail on the shoulder. The fuschia peep-toes were a nice touch.

Her beau Josh Jackson is happy to let his girl shine, as he stands back in a white/black tuxedo from Alberta Ferretti.

Best Monochrome Award
I love it when Dita von Teese wears something other than just black.

This Marchesa Fall 2008 strapless black and white embroidered gown with feather detail on the hem, is just the kind of dramatic dress I would expect Dita to wear.

Dita does not do safe.

Best Designer Award
If ever there was an award for Best At Wearing Your Own Clothes, it would have to be given to Donatella Versace.

Donatella looks beautiful in her own designed strapless fleshy peach coloured dress, with an embroidered detail which nips in her tiny waist. To add further glamour, the dress is completed with train.

Just OK Award
I don't love Emmy Rossum in this Phi dress, but I don't hate it either. It is just OK.

Emmy should really start saving the magnificent dresses she wears to smaller events, to big events like this.

She accessorized her dress with Chopard jewels and a Mary Norton clutch.

Best Colour Award
Eva Mendes aqua dress is stunning against her caramel skin.

This Calvin Klein dress itself is very interesting in design with its varying shapes.

Eva's stunning jewels are by Bulgari.

Best Embellishments Award
This would not be a prestigious event without some Elie Saab bling.

Hilary Duff, who a guest of Allure magazine, was lucky enough to wear this stunning Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture gown. I would have preferred one of the bigger stars to have wore this gown, but young Hilary does it justice.

Most Consistent Award
Do I really to say how much I LOVE this red satin Dolce & Gabbana gown on Iman?

Oh my lord she is killing me with her perfection.

The bodice is a very familiar style for Dolce & Gabbana, but they have added a full skirt and a jeweled detail on the hip to give Iman that oomph, that helps her radiate her beauty.

Best Campaign Girl Award
Jennifer Connelly, the face of Balenciaga does not let Nicolas Ghesquière down in this Balenciaga Fall 2008 black and white dress.

Even her sky high heels are from the Fall 2008 collection.

Her necklace is amazing.

Most Colourful Award
Kate Bosworth like Diane Kruger, also did not opt for the long flowing ball gown. Instead she wore this psychedelic vintage Chanel couture dress with a jagged hem.

Her colourful Pierre Hardy shoes gave the allusion from the front that she was not wearing shoes, but they had a transparent strap.

Having The Most Fun/Best Accentuated Waist Award
Kate Moss with and wearing Stella McCartney, looked to be having the most fun at this event.

Kate's dress was beautifully accentuated with a silver belt, over her dove grey scoop-neck chiffon dress.

Best At Staying In Character Award
The sequin detail on the bodice of Kristin Davis' Michael Kors Fall 2008 is beautiful without being too over the top. Very Charlotte York McDougall Goldenblatt.

Best Use Of Colours Award
Normally I with ruched bodice, oversized bow, uneven hem and multi-coloured tiering of this Peter Som Fall 2008 dress, I may have been put off, but Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of the few who could pull this dress off.

Her Christian Louboutin Rosazissimo feather shoes are a perfect compliment.

Simple Yet Sophisticated Award
Sofia Coppola, who will be taking over from Victoria Beckham in Marc Jacobs next advertising campaign, keeps it simple in this stunning white satin Marc Jacobs drop waist gown.

Borderline Award
Michelle Monaghan wore this this burnt J Mendel one-shouldered gown. I particular love the leaf detail.

Best Rock n' Roll Award
Zoe Kravitz kept to her unique style in this sea green crushed velvet gown. She added at touch of glam with a white feather boa.

Costume Institute Gala - Worst Dressed

Most Confusing/Worst Dressed Award
I understand the theme, and I understand that Christina Ricci was going for Wonder Woman here, but the pink ruins what could have been a great Givenchy dress.

Maybe if the pink had been black it would have worked.

Shame.

Not So Golden Girl Award
Mary-Kate Olsen's custom-made Diane von Furstenberg gold sequined dress had plunging neckline, and a sexy slit, but looks slightly too big on her, which is strange considering the dress is customed.

Her hair is a disaster and ruins anything that is good here.

Worst Hair Award
A pair of straighteners would have sorted that mess right out.

I would have much preferred it if this Calvin Klein dress was a plunge-neck instead of a turtle neck.

Your TV Stylist & Your Red Carpet Stylist Should Meet Award
What is up with Blake Lively lately on the red carpet?

For me she is hitting foul balls left, right and center. Her style started off great on the red carpet, but has been on a downward spiral ever since.

Blake was meant to be the Sarah Jessica Parker of my sisters generation both on and off the red carpet, but it is just not working. She looks about 20 years older than what she is here in this Ralph Lauren Fall 2008 strapless gown with feathered detail....Booorring.

As usual, I expected more for young Blake. Whoever is dressing her for Gossip Girl, needs to sprinkle some of that magic onto the red carpet.

Where was Leighton Meester? She would not have looked this bad.

Most Disappointing Award
This one goes out to Victoria Beckham, David of course looks gorgeous.

I love Victoria Beckham so this hurts, but her dress is too see-through and she appears to have nothing underneath, so I feel like I can see her boobs, her face looks too pale and I usually like her hair up but on this occasion, not so much.

It would also have no killed her to have smiled at least once on the red carpet.

Worst Dress/Shoes Combo
Here is another person I was not expecting to see on the worst list.

Katie Holmes looks great from the ankles up. Her vintage Giorgio Armani red sequined beaded bustier and full ball gown skirt from the Fall 1993 collection is amazing as is her Boucheron jewels, but why OH WHY did she wear those blue Louboutins?

Worst Embellishments Award
I was torn on Mischa Barton's Missoni dress for a while.

I like the chiffon straps, but I am not so keen on the dripping bead work and the gold skirt with a taupe overlay.

Lame Award
Isn't it amazing how Michelle Trachtenberg has matched her skirt to her gold lame petal nipple covers?

She is not quite rockin' this vintage YSL dress in a way I had hoped.

Far Too Safe Award
Sarah Michelle Gellar was far too safe with this black shapeless strapless Bottega Veneta dress.

Worst Hair Accessories Award
I know thanks to Gossip Girl headbands are back, but I am not loving the jeweled headband on Amanda Peet. I am also not crazy about her moody Derek Lam Fall 2008 strapless gown with a matching waist belt.

Most Uncomfortable Award
It looks like Eva Amurri can not breath in this Louis Vuitton Fall 2008 dress.

Eva is a busty lady, and this dress is crushing her lady lumps.

Worst One Sleeve Award
I am NOT a fan of the one long sleeve and this ruins what would have been a great night for Fergie in Calvin Klein.

One-shouldered or even strapless would have worked better.

Worst Use Of Colour Award
Kimora Lee Simmons' kids did not colour-in her dress. This dress was actually designed like this by Kevan Hall.

Worst Lace Award
I was never a fan of the entire Prada Fall 2008 collection being lace and was hoping not see it on the red carpet.

Unfortunately Tilda Swinton is wearing this Prada Fall 2008 beige lace dress, and to make matters worse, she wore an orange brooch and a green velvet shoes.

2008 CFDA Fashion Awards Nominations

The nominations for the 2008 CFDA Fashion Awards were announced yesterday.

The nominees are:

Womenswear Designer of the Year
Marc Jacobs
Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein
Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler

Menswear Designer of the Year
Tom Ford
Thom Browne
Michael Bastian

Accessory Designer of the Year

Marc Jacobs
Michael Kors
Tory Burch

Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte
Alexander Wang
Thakoon Panichgul

Swarovski Award for Menswear
Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders
Tim Hamilton
Patrick Ervell

International Award

Dries Van Noten

The event will take place on the 5 May, and this years theme is Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy. Think Jessica Alba as Sue Storm in The Fanastic Four, Halle Berry as Catwoman.

Past themes have included Dangerous Liaisons in 2004, House of Chanel in 2005, Anglomania in 2006, in honour of Paul Poiret last year.

This event is very much the Oscars of Fashion, so the red carpet is always glittering with fantastic ensembles. A good of what celebrities are wearing is who they turn up with. Last year Donatella Versace arrived with Hilary Swank in Versace, of course.

"Poiret: King of Fashion" Costume Institute Gala

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Lucy Liu is wearing this BEAUTIFUL Zac Posen Fall 2007 gown. I am not sure about the Wonder Woman accessories though.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This was a great colour choice for Lara Spencer.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Cate Blanchet...mmm. It's just OK and I am clutching at straws here. I hate to diss my style queen, but I don't like the earrings or the hair. Of course she is wearing Balenciaga.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The one person I was relying on to take a risk was Chloe Sevigny. Girlfriend let me down. She is better than this boring Balenciaga dress.

She normally always has her hair back. On this occasion she set it free, but did nothing with it.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Eva Mendes has a face like thunder, but this does not detract from her beautiful jacquard dress.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The earrings were just one step to far for Cameron Diaz. The kooky necklace I would have allowed on its own. Together...NO.

The dress is beautiful and is by Christian Dior and was also seen on best mate Drew Barrymore a few weeks ago.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

What a risk that paid off. It looks like a dress Princess Leia would have worn, but I love it. She is wearing Gaultier Paris Haute Couture.

Camilla Belle has come out of nowhere and is consistently doing well on the red carpet. She has already won two 'Best Dressed Of The Week' awards.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Supermodels can be hit or miss at these events as some try to hard. Christy Turlington is effortless beautiful here. Love it.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Another long face. Jennifer Connolly's embellish dress is really a beautiful. It could have stood to have been a bit longer though.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Rose is my favourite colour. Joely Richardson wears it well in this amazing Peter Som dress. It is the dress Cameron Diaz should have worn to the Golden Globes

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is a fantastic Prada dress on Kate Bosworth as I was expecting something boring from her. I don't like the hair or the lips though. The shoes also rock.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Fresh from her cocaine scandal, Lindsay Lohan walks the red carpet with no shame.

This is a nice dress, surprisingly. But it's just begging for a wardrobe malfunction.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Mary-Kate Olsen is wearing one of the best dresses so far by Lily et Cie. The Olsen's have a very weird sense of style but this rocks. Many of you will be thinking she looks like a mini ape, but I love it.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Me no likey. Zac Posen.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Renee Zellweger has been away from the red carpet for a long while, yet, it all looks so familiar. I like the dress but not her in it.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I can hear the stylist now...."Rihanna wear the fishnet gloves, they would be fierce with your white dress". No Rihanna, sack your stylist.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Rosario Dawson is better than is weak, boring ass dress.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Say what you like about her face, she still has a body to die for.

Donatella wears a dress from her collection which is yet to hit the catwalk. Hilary Swank is wearing this beautiful aubergine dress from the Versace Fall 2007 collection and she still continues to wear her hair behind her ears. *shudders*

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Jennifer Lopez needs to train Marc Anthony so that when he sees a photographer he should step aside. In this case it does not matter because I am totally underwhelmed by the Marchesa dress.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I almost did not recognise Amber Valletta with her dark hue. What a wrong time to display such a mistake.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It is not totally black, but it is mostly black. America Ferrera needs to introduce some more colour into her closet. She is wearing Phi.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Love this dress, but Christina Ricci is too emaciated for me in this picture. Wearing Calvin Klein.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Jennifer Garner looks very uneasy in this bright but dull dress. If you catch my drift.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Kerry Washington gets better and better on the red carpet. Here she is wearing Derek Lam.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Meh? This is OK for Misha Barton I suppose.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sandra Bullock wears this lovely pink Alberta Ferretti Fall 2007 gown.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Jennifer Hudson continues to dress those a curves. This dress is by Michael Kors.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I have been reliable informed that the gentleman with Ashley Olsen is shoe designer Christian Louboutin, I could not find one photo of her without him, does this mean their is a collaboration in the works?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Kate Moss arrived in her own TopShop design, which is yet to reach stores like all the best parts of her collection.

The Costume Institute Gala - Worst Dressed

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

WTF??? Is Kirsten Dunst serious with this get up? It is vintage Yves Saint Laurent by the way.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

When I saw the list of attendees I was very excited about Scarlett Johansson.

Never in a million years did I expect to be putting her in the worst section. What happened here?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I am a great believer in the saying "Practice what you preach".

Ms Wintour is NOT doing it here.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Who invited the stripper?

Jessica Simpson looks her usual trashy self. All I see is tits and lips.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Hate it. I love Salma Hayek but what happened to dressing for pregnancy? Sarah Jessica Parker did not let pregnancy get in the way of her looking fabulous.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This dress is too old for Winona Ryder.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sad...very sad for Naomi Campbell. She can leave her sanitation duty looking a million bucks, but turns up to the event of the year looking like this.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Who puts grey and orange together? Claire Danes does in this hideous dress.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Hideous and I am not just talking about the colour of the dress on Claudia Schiffer.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It was working on Ivanka Trump until I saw the right boob.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Another person I was not expecting to be in this category. Liv Tyler blinds me with this aqua dress and red lips combo.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The posture, the dress.....Sophia Dahl did a lot wrong here.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There is something butch in Alicia's manner that just puts me off.

Runway To Red Carpet - Cameron Diaz In Dior

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Cameron Diaz is wearing this Christian Dior Fall 2007 dress which is very similar to the dress Drew Barrymore wore to her 'Lucky You' premiere last week.

What great friends they are. Do you think they played "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to see who got which dress?

The Costume Institute Gala

Tonight we will see The MOST Fashionable Event Of The Year, The Costume Institute Gala.

Cate Blanchett will be co-chairing the event with Anna Wintour and I am sooo excited. This is Cate's night, so I expect her dress to knock all the other dresses out of sight.

Expected guests include Jennifer Lopez and the fug, Kate Hudson, Naomi Watts, Kirsten Dunst, John Legend, Liv Tyler, Gisele Bundchen, Scarlett Johansson, Lucy Liu, Julianne Moore. Tonight we should see some of the best dresses to hit the red carpet.

Last years theme was "Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion" and I can't wait to see what Cate and Anna have in store for us this year.

Are you dribbling yet? No? Well this should wet your appetite. Here are some pictures from previous events.
