RM by Roland Mouret Spring 2010

If you expected the RM by Roland Mouret Spring 2010 collection to be full of the body conscious dresses which made him famous, you were in for a surprise because the designer presented a much looser silhouette for the majority of the collection which draped beautifully on the models who walked the laser lit runway.

I was seated near the runway exit so I got to see a lot of the details up close from the folds, to the pleats, to the gathered details.

Protruding pockets seemed to be the theme of this collection, creating an interesting silhouette.

With a more colourful palette including orange and cobalt blue alongside, black, navy, grey and nude, Mouret presented loose pants, adorable floaty tops, plunging dresses, cropped pants, chic striped hoodies, harem pants, and jumpsuits.

If you were expecting bod-con this collection included some stretched pieces with black-and-white stripes or nude. This nude dress should be dubbed the “the naked dress” after Carrie Bradshaw’s famous dress.

I was particularly drawn to the mustard striped pieces, which I later found out when speaking to Mouret after the show that this was an North African influence.

The North African theme I also felt translated into the big chunky statement necklaces, fringed gold shoulders, cuffs and armlets which were really spikey.

After the show I went backstage where I saw uber model Karlie Kloss being interviewed.

I also got to see the accessories up close, and the Christian Louboutin cage ankle boots which the models had worn.

The designer himself – Mr Louboutin – was in the front row which I found very interesting as I had also spotted him at the Todd Lynn Spring 2010 show during London Fashion Week, where his red soled heels also stormed the runway.

Mouret said that the collection was not particularly inspired by anything or person. When he designs he thinks about new innovative ways to flatter the female form.

This collection goes on sale November 15. I better start saving.

Victoria Beckham For Elle US October 2009

Victoria Beckham graced the October 2009 issue of Elle US wearing a Hussein Chalayan Fall 2009 mini dress, whilst reflecting the sunlight off her Judith Leiber ‘Chocolate Bar’ Minaudiere champagne clutch.

It’s a strong pose and she looks fierce.  I love that she is not totally predictable here.

On the subscriber’s cover Victoria is wearing a Christian Dior Fall 2009 Couture look complete with runway stockings.

This was my favourite picture, until I wondered where her other arm was.

The rest of her editorial sees Victoria wearing the same Valentino dress Rose Byrne wore to the Emmy’s, the same Stella McCartney jumpsuit the designer wore to the Costume Institute gala, plus a Diane von Furstenberg swimsuit, a Roberto Cavalli dress and of course one of her own dresses features in the editorial.

Here are some extracts from her interview:

On life in America: “You know, I love America. It’s such a positive country. When people say to me, ‘How long did it take for you to adjust? Poor you, it must’ve been really difficult’ – poor me? I’m living in Beverly Hills. I’m very, very lucky. I wake up every morning and I recognize that I’m blessed.”

Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 Front Row & After Party

Front Row

I will assume Leighton Meester traveled all the way to Paris for the Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 presentation, as I haven’t yet seen her front row at any other shows.

Despite the long flight and jet-lag Leighton knocks it out of the fashion ball park in floral Resort 2010 dress with a ruffle detail cascading down the front.

She paired her dress with a belted vest from the same collection.

I love everything about this look.  Even the sandals paired with socks, but that grey bag just makes me shiver.

A cute clutch or no bag at all would have been preferred.

I’m sure many of you will go crazy over Freida Pinto’s Fall 2009 look consisting of an electric blue jersey top paired with a matching layered chiffon skirt.

I think the look is just OK.

I’m more drawn to the bright colour, the open-toe boots and bag, as the hair just ruins the look for me plus the top is a little tight about the bust.

I saved going gaga for Camilla Belle who wore my favourite look from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 collection.

Camilla never has a day off look fabulous, but I just wish she hadn’t worn those shades.

Katy Perry wore a metallic puff sleeve top which wasn’t presented on the runway paired with a black pencil skirt.

I love the contrast between the futuristic top and the classic skirt.

Natalia Vodianova decided not to belt her LV Fall 2009 nude dress with a textured black yoke.

I like the look both ways.

Rinko Kikuchi is the second person to rock this LV Fall 2009 blue and pink dress with a black lace overlay.

I’m glad she wasn’t so bold to wear it as presented on the runway, as we all know Rinko likes to take a risk.

Last season Gong Li arrived at the LV show wearing a chic denim look.

This time opted for a sophisticated black coat/dress from the Fall 2009 collection which she paired with Cancan heels.

Even thought Anastasia Gorbacheva watered down the LV Fall 2009 runway look, she did it for all the right reason.

I really love this look. Those pattern leggings are gorgeous.

Daisy Lowe also wore the LV Cancan heels, but paired hers with an ivory skirt and black blazer.

This look is surprisingly demure considering she wore leopard print pants at Dolce & Gabbana’s show.

I thought she would’ve loved to have worn the adventurous pieces at LV.

Maybe Zoe Saldana was down in the dumps as the paparazzi failed to recognise her when I saw her in Paris, because her smile seems strained.

The Star Trek star opted for a rather cute playsuit with a ribboned neck tie.

After-Party

Zoe Saldana got back into her groove posing fiercely at the show’s after-party wearing a LV Fall 2009 dress.

I love her gold accessories, the ruffles sleeved and the one-poufy shoulder detail, but were’s the pom-pom?

Camilla Belle opted for a grey knotted and ruched LV Fall 2009 dress for her after-party look.

Love the hair and make-up with this look.

Natalia Vodianova arrived with her husband Justin Portman wearing another nude and black LV Fall 2009 look.

This time it was a velvet mini dress was paired with patterned tights and Cancan heels.

Gong Li wore this navy LV Fall 2009 dress with a poufy hem.

The dress is gorgeous, but the boots are a tad much when the dress has so much detail.

I guess she decided on the boots as torrential rain, thunder and lighting hit Paris last night.

Thankfully my train was pulling out of Gare du Nord on the 2013 as this started to happen.

YSL Spring 2010

My Paris Fashion Week adventure started at YSL.

I was invited to the YSL showroom to view the straight-off-the Spring 2010 runway collection.

The collection was laid out in 4 parts which represented the sweet country-style brand classic white blouses and peasant skirts to an urban utilitarian looks which included leather shorts which were slashed. A trend we’ve seen in other presentations.

One thing I could appreciate viewing the collection this way was Pilati expert tailoring.

There were many dresses which were above-the-knee, poufy and belted plus shirt-dresses were also included.

Pants were loose and high-waisted. Shorts were presented in both leather and toweling material plus pencil skirt were both khaki and leather.

Monsieur Laurent classic masculine looks with the feminine ambiguity were evident by the look Iris Strubegger wore including wide pants, a ruffle collared blouse and cropped tuxedo jacket.

I loved that the collection included coral pinks, cornflower blue and forest green, as Stefano Pilati usually favours a palette of black, white and grey.

When I viewed the Spring 2010 collection on Style.com I’ll admit I didn’t get the strawberry reference, so I asked what it represented.

The strawberries reference Yves Saint Laurent’s last Spring 2001 Haute Couture presentation in which Monsieur Laurent embroidered strawberries, pineapples and cherries to blouses.

Seeing the collection up close I also noticed that the black leather skirt also had strawberry appliqués.

Another benefit of seeing the collection up close is that you appreciate all the finer details.

Look 9 appears to be white dress trimmed with black leather ruffles, but they were actually 2 separate dresses.

Many of the YSL Fall 2009 bags had a “Y” sewn, so I loved that Look 39 had this same sewn in detail on the skirt.

The accessories were just as magnificent as the clothes.  Cuffs looked like tree bark and thorned vines.

The suede and leather sandals were studded, detailed with roses, trimmed with white leather and came in a variety of colours.

Kate Moss was one of the celebrities in the front row.

She arrived in a high end-high street mix of a YSL Fall 2009 dark grey coat/cape, paired with a sheer top, a black mini skirt and a studded belt from her Kate Moss for Topshop collection.

Katy Perry’s look was head-to-toe YSL as she paired the leather bustier with dark grey pants which she tucked into her boots.

Natalia Vodianova also arrived wearing a YSL leather-wool mix, pairing her look with a gorgeous pair of black crocodile YSL Imperiale pumps from the Fall 2009 collection.

More Elie Saab Spring 2010

This morning I woke up like a kid on Christmas Day, and my gift was to relive the Elie Saab Spring 2010 collection via Style.com.

Yesterday I gave you the video from the show, today the pictures.

As I said yesterday, each look was more spectacular than the previous.

Although I mentioned Beyonce yesterday, I would love to see someone statuesque like Tilda Swinton wearing the long pixelated print fitted gown.

Blake Lively could rock in the short asymmetrical print dress or the nude asymmetrical embellished mini and Thandie Newton in the plunging print mini.

The evening blue and nude gown I see on Penelope Cruz, and if Nicole Kidman could wear something other than what her stylist L’Wren Scott had created I would love to see her wearing the one-shouldered embellished gown.

I hope Rachel Zoe and all the other superstar stylists are selecting for their clients as I type.

Nelly Furtado looked gorgeous wearing a contouring dove grey wool crepe Elie Saab Fall 2009 dress.

Whilst Dita Von Teese looked ultra elegant in the front row wearing a chic black wool crepe fitted Elie Saab Fall 2009 dress, which has been modified from the runway.

Who Wore Black Halo Better? Jennifer Morrison or Vanessa Minnillo

Jennifer Morrison wore this very sultry Black Halo pencil dress when she arrives at the Padres Contra El Cancer’s 8th Annual “El Sueno De Esperanza” in California.

The two-toned jacket dress features a flattering sheath silhouette with cap sleeves and a slim textured belt cinching in the waist.

She paired her look with black peep-toes and a sparkling black clutch.

Vanessa Minnillo wore the same dress to the “Step Up Women’s Network’s 2009 Inspiration Awards Luncheon” in Beverly Hills.

She also carried a embellished black bag and wore Christian Louboutin’s making this almost impossible to pick a winner.

In the end I opted for Jennifer because I preferred her shoes to Vanessa.

Elie Saab Spring 2010

He had me at Look 1.

Elie Saab’s Spring 2010 collection is by far the best show I have seen this fashion week.

As one look passed me by before I could say “Oh my…” the next one was even more spectacular.

In the Escape Ephémère where the presentation was held, the room was completely black from the walls, to the seats to the black sand which covered the runway.

This allowed the embellished looks to really dazzle on the runway.

Yes the King of Bling is back.

Beyonce Knowles will be drooling over these embellished gowns and cocktail dress that I saw on the runway.

Shoulders, backs, asymmetrical straps, hip pockets all got the embellished treatment which looked like gold and bronzed stones.

The collection wasn’t all about bling.

A few looks were presented with a stunning print which was like a pixelated view of a starry night.

Other looks using a soft beige, sunset reds, evening blues and deep midnight black colour palette were draped, structured, high-waisted, cut-out, asymmetrical, plunging, backless, accented with long gold necklaces, paired with black or nude sexy leather strappy sandals and model carried a stunning Elie Saab clutch.

I know I always say this but I can’t wait to see this collection on the red carpet.

Nelly Furtado and Dita von Teese were in the front row. Will they be the first?

We will have to wait and see.

I promise to invest in a better camera next season.

I’m uploading my pictures on http://twitpic.com/photos/fashion_critic_

But do check out the pictures on Style.com when they are uploaded.

I hope you enjoy my video and grainy pictures.
