Behind the Seams With Bella Thorne: She Dishes on Her Personal Style, the Challenge Teen Stars Face Dressing for the Red Carpet & More

Bella Thorne 2

In two short years, actress Bella Thorne has shot up the fashion ranks to be one of THE ones-to-watch on the red carpet. More often than not, the stunning redhead can be counted on to pull together a look that’s fresh and different. Her ability to make any design contemporary through her use of color and accessories is remarkable. If just half of her peers could master that skill, the world would be a much better place.

With her impeccable taste in clothes, towering height (5’5” without heels!) and good looks, it’s hard to believe that Bella is only a teenager. But we were reminded of her youth on the eve of her Sweet 16 birthday when we had the pleasure of chatting with the starlet as she hosted the ‘Girls Night Out’ WallFlower Jeans event in L.A.

Rocking a typical teen outfit—simple white tee and denim (but paired with a black quilted Chanel purse and black Christian Louboutin pumps, natch!) and cute ponytail, Bella spent the better part of the evening hanging out with girlfriends and graciously taking pictures with young fans of her Disney show, ‘Shake It Up.’

We managed to get a few minutes with the beauty, who was accompanied by stylist Marissa Peden, to talk about how she envisions her look evolving, behind-the-scenes fashion stories, and the challenge she faces playing dress up in a mature industry.

On her style: It’s kind of whatever I’m feeling that day, honestly. I don’t have like a “no-go” look. I don’t hate one thing. I kind of like everything. One of the things that attract me to an outfit is if it’s comfortable. I will pick an outfit based upon the shoes [my stylist] Marissa Peden gives me because I will be like, Marissa, these shoes are uncomfortable, so we’ll go with the other outfit. It can be something as simple as that.

On her style icons: I like Natalie Portman and Nicole Richie.

On a standout look she’s worn: There’s not a favorite look of mine. There’s actually one that I kind of put together at the last minute and I liked it. It was the Alberta Ferretti dress with Bionda Castana shoes that I wore to a charity event.

Ciara In Emilio Pucci – Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 12th Annual ‘An Enduring Vision’ Benefit Gala

Ciara In Emilio Pucci - Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 12th Annual ‘An Enduring Vision’ Benefit Gala

Ciara joined Allison Williams at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 12th annual ‘An Enduring Vision’ benefit gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Tuesday evening.

The songstress took a wild turn with her nearly neon-yellow Emilio Pucci Spring 2014 hooded dress that was cut low on top and high on the bottom.

The tasseled, plunging mini got an extra wallop of brash attitude via the styling, with the edgy Ciara choosing a chain-link choker necklace and black Christian Louboutin ‘Monicarina’ thigh-high leather boots.

I’m trying to imagine this look with more sophisticated shoes and accessories, but I’m still not convinced it could have turned into a gala-ready dress.

Michelle Williams In Gucci - 2013 Skin Cancer Foundation Gala

Michelle Williams attended the 2013 Skin Cancer Foundation Gala held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City yesterday evening.

The singer donned a sexy LBD from Gucci’s Fall 2013 collection with a black lace fern yoke, which she styled with an even sexier pair of star-embellished Giuseppe Zanotti black sandals.

As you know, I’m always on bra-reveal watch. On this occasion it could pass off as part of her dress so I don’t find it intrusive, nor does it put me off the look. That could also be because I am distracted by that daring side slit.

You may remember that Jessica Chastain wore the same dress back in June; she possibly wore a modified version, as the slit wasn’t so pronounced.

Menswear Midweek RoundUp

Menswear Roundup 16 Oct

Here is a quick roundup of some of the fellas who took to the red carpet yesterday evening.

Daniel Radcliffe: The actor took home the Best Actor award at the Attitude Awards in recognition of his performance in ‘Kill Your Darlings’, looking very sharp and smart – as always – wearing a classic Dolce & Gabbana shawl-collar maroon and black tux with a pleated white shirt and bow tie.

James Franco: The actor wore a laidback Gucci Pre-Fall 2013 look featuring a black quilted leather jacket with a blue wool crewneck sweater, a grey dress shirt, blue denim jeans and black leather boots while making a guest appearance on ‘The Today Show’ and for his arrival at the Ed Sullivan Theatre for the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’. This might be the first time I have ever seen James not wearing a suit.

Oliver Cheshire: Channelling his inner Hugh Hefner, the model wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit featuring a rich-burgundy velvet jacket, a polka-dotted scarf and a smart bow tie. The model fared much better in the style stakes than his girlfriend Pixie Lott. I’m still trying to figure out what is going on there.

Josh Brolin: Menswear is having a Dolce & Gabbana appreciation moment at present; Josh also wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit to the ‘Labor Day’ London Film Festival premiere alongside a radiant Kate Winslet on Monday night. Instead of classic black, he went for a sleek grey suit with a modern sheen styled with a white dress shirt and dark-grey tie to complete his impossibly handsome look.

From this bunch I love Oliver’s Christmas-is-around-the-corner velvet blazer and Josh’s sharply tailored suit and rugged good looks.

Miranda Kerr was spotted making her way to the Hearst Building in New York City, heading to a meeting with Cosmopolitan magazine.

The model wore a look once considered the uniform of all Victoria’s Secret models: a Herve Leger bandage dress.

Working a sexy red pout, she wore a maroon-and-black bold graphic butterfly-print halter-neck dress with angled banded seams and a black hemline, amped up with a striking pair of electric-blue Manolo Blahnik pumps.

A black wool coat was slung over her shoulders, with a ladylike finish to her look coming courtesy of her pale-pink Prada tote.
