Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

The men didn’t take a break this weekend either, with the 2017 Toronto Film Festival summoning many of them to the red carpet—plus a few other occasions.

Bill Skarsgard: At the ‘It’ Stockholm premiere, Bill wore a tweedy, printed Bottega Veneta suit that he enhanced with the deep navy dress shirt. I just wish he had buttoned the top button of his jacket.

Alan Cumming: At the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ TIFF premiere on Sunday (September 10), Alan showed off his quirky style in a Stella McCartney double-breasted pinstriped suit. The tapered pants didn’t really do the look any favours, and I generally have the same reaction to men’s platform shoes as I do to women’s—being.

Aubrey Drake Graham: At ‘The Carter Effect’ TIFF premiere on Saturday (September 9), the entertainer dressed up in a Prada ensemble that was emboldened by its aubergine palette.

Toronto Film Festival Red Carpet Roundup

The 2017 Toronto Film Festival red carpet has been red-haute with looks throughout the weekend, and here is a roundup of the rest of the stars that were seen on Sunday (September 10).

Margaret Qualley: The young starlet was at the ‘Novitate’ premiere dressed in a Valentino Fall 2017 gown. This ornate look translated a bit heavily for me, but it’s intriguing to watch Margaret continue to boldly experiment with her style.

Evan Rachel Wood: I absolutely loved this Stella McCartney Resort 2018 pinstripe ensemble on the actress at the ‘A Worthy Companion’ premiere. Riffing on menswear, the look perfectly played into her edgy style sensibility while providing a different take on the suiting trend with its play on proportions. Her makeup seemed a bit overzealous, but that would be my main qualm. Giuseppe Zanotti shoes completed her look.

Elisabeth Moss: After a few recent looks that successfully pushed the boundaries of Elisabeth’s go-to style, she was back in her comfort zone at ‘The Square’ premiere with this Rochas retro-inspired jumper and skirt accessorised with Chloe Gosselin embellished pumps.

Jessica Chastain In Zuhair Murad – ‘Woman Walks Ahead’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere

Jessica Chastain was in great spirits as she premiered her latest film, ‘Woman Walks Ahead’ during the Toronto Film Festival on Sunday (September 10).

And walk tall she did, in Zuhair Murad.

There was a period during the early part of the year where we -I feel I’m speaking for the majority- were a bit underwhelmed by a few of Jessica’s look.

When I saw this striking red beaded Resort 2018 tulle slipgown I said, “this is the Jessia I know and love.”

She was oozing glamour of the highest order, with plenty of sparkle, complementary ruby jewels and a red pout to roundout the supereme elegance of the look.

This was my perhaps my favourite dress from an event heavy weekend, where we’ve covered over 100 red carpet looks.

Rachel Weisz In Dolce & Gabbana & Rachel McAdams In Elie Saab – ‘Disobedience’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere

The ‘Disobedience’ Toronto Film Festival premiere on Sunday (September 10) presented differing romantic lace ensembles courtesy of Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams.

Rachel Weisz: Offering an elegant version of lace, the actress was dressed in a Dolce & Gabbana dress. The gown with elbow-length sleeves was banded with crisscrossing black lace. Although it was still head-turning, it was a different take on Dolce & Gabbana’s typical maximalist embellishment. Rachel’s sleek bob and diminutive drop earrings lent an air of timeless sophistication to the two-tone gown.

Rachel McAdams: Dressed in ethereal mint ruffles, the other Rachel opted for the lingerie-inspired route with her Elie Saab Resort 2018 creation. I would have expected this to be styled with a very ethereal beauty look, but enjoyed the actress’s darker pink lipstick, smudge of black eyeliner and bedhead-y waves.

Ruth Wilson In Markus Lupfer & Johanna Ortiz – HFPA And InStyle’s TIFF Celebration & ‘Dark River’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere

Ruth Wilson was one of the many lovely ladies who graced the Toronto Film Festival, first attending the HFPA And InStyle’s TIFF Celebration on Saturday (September 9) then the ‘Dark River’ premiere on Sunday (September 10).

HFPA And InStyle’s TIFF Celebration: Dressed in Markus Lupfer Pre-Fall 2017, the actress’s teal bra was visible under a gossamer-thin white tank top. The sheer top was juxtaposed by the high-shine red skirt and leopard print shoes. The tank top felt too casual for the event and the teal lingerie felt out of place, or like a missed opportunity.

‘Dark River’ Premiere: Ruth brought out her party skirt for the premiere by donning head-to-toe Johanna Ortiz Resort 2018. The striped T-shirt layered over the blouse with billowing sleeves tempered the foiled metallic ruffles of the skirt. The entire look was literally wrapped up with the oversized black bow fashioned around her waist. There are many juxtaposing elements, but I wish Ruth had experimented with something as impactful in her previous look.

Kate Mara In Giambattista Valli Couture – ‘Chappaquiddick’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere

The fashion parade continued at the Toronto Film Festival with Kate Mara donning a hyper-embellished dress at the ‘Chappaquiddick’ premiere on Sunday (September 10).

Clad in a Giambattista Valli Couture Fall 2017 mini dress, the actress shimmered at the event in both sunshine and artificial light thanks to the black sheen in the bodice. It was a clever choice as black outfits can sometimes come across as dull in photos.

Kate took styling cues from the runway and swept her ginger locks into an updo and painted on a red lip.

Her black pumps and clutch tied things together nicely without being distracting. Husband Jamie Bell’s all-black Dior Homme look was also a perfect foil to the couture frock, but didn’t come across as too matchy-matchy.

Kate Winslet In Badgley Mischka – The Mountain Between Us’ Toronto Film Festival Premiere

Kate Winslet made her stylish Toronto Film Festival red carpet debut at the ‘The Mountain Between Us’ premiere on Sunday (September 10).

A fan of curve-enhancing silhouettes, the Academy Award-winning actress wore a custom Badgley Mischka white gown with a halter neckline and fitted shape.

The gown’s black lace belt and halter straps framed Kate’s face and waist.

Statement jewellery could have served as a distraction, but her De Beers jewels echoed the details of the lace banding for a sublime finish.
