Hair Trend Spotting: Messy Braided Ponytails

Hair Trend Spotting Messy Braided Ponytails

Keeping your locks under control in the humid weather has never been easy; however, Nina Dobrev, Lucy Hale and Shay Mitchell found the perfect solution for their red carpet looks at the Teen Choice Awards: braided ponytails.

Last year braids were worn as tight and as sleek as possible, whereas this spring braids are going to be the complete opposite as this trend is more laidback and relaxed, reliving the romantic medieval style.

Opting for long, chunky, messy and romantic braids shows a much more youthful approach to a classic updo.

Other stars who have championed the messy, romantic braid this year, during Cannes, include Blake Lively and Eva Longoria.

Here’s how to create the look.

Create a side part and add texture with a wide-barrel curling iron, making sure to curl from the top. Lightly tease hair at the crown, then split your hair into two sections.

Keeping your hair on the side of the part, begin to braid by pulling a bit of hair from the outside of one section over to the centre of the other section, then repeat for the other side and continue until your braid is the desired length.

Once you’ve reached the bottom, fasten the braid with an elastic. Loosen the braid by lightly tugging on outer sections throughout.

Teen Choice Award Red Carpet Trend: Crop Tops

Teen Choice Award Red Carpet Trend - Crop Tops

Aside from the covetable surfboards, the other major item trending among the crop of PYTs at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday (August 10) was undoubtedly the crop top.

The midriff continued to have a moment at the event, hosted at the Shrine Auditorium, where two-piece ensembles showed up at every turn.

With varying lengths of the shortened shirt, some showed only a sliver of skin while other manners of bralettes, bandeaus and bustiers flaunted measurably more. But with such a range of styles, it was refreshing to see just how different the stomach-baring top can be.

From Nina Dobrev’s colour-splashed statement to Taylor Swift’s charming ensemble and Kylie Jenner’s edgier entrance, not to mention Shay Mitchell’s sweet-and-sultry white lace look, the unspoken consensus among the flock of starlets was in full favour of the flaunted and toned midsection.

There were nearly too many crops to count on the blue carpet, with Jordin Sparks, Chloe Grace Moretz, Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff, Laura Marano and Vanessa Marano also keeping the trend alive and kicking.

Are you a fan, or has the crop top finally been overexposed?

Jennifer Lopez In Elie Saab – 2014 Teen Choice Awards

Jennifer Lopez In Elie Saab - 2014 Teen Choice Awards

Jennifer Lopez attended the 2014 Teen Choice Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (August 10) in Los Angeles, California as one of the guest presenters, where she was reunited with her ‘Maid In Manhattan’ co-star Tyler Posey.

Donning green from head to toe, the ‘American Idol’ judge wore an Elie Saab Spring 2014 long-sleeved lace mini dress – of course – styled with satin accessories including a box clutch and Ermanno Scervino sandals.

For some reason I mistook JLo for Lea Michele for a split second. Perhaps because Lea has worn something similar, or because it is something I can picture her wearing.

Feeling a slight case of déjà vu? That may be because Toni Garrn wore the sleeveless gown version of this dress not too long ago.

Willow Shields In Emanuel Ungaro – 2014 Teen Choice Awards

Willow Shields joined a host of stars on the red carpet for the 2014 Teen Choice Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on Sunday (August 10) in Los Angeles, California.

Continuing to shun the girlie dresses she was known for, the actress wore an Emanuel Ungaro Resort 2015 two-piece look featuring boxy, blue, bejeweled crop top and indigo and white tulip-print leggings.

Her navy Stuart Weitzman ‘Queen’ pumps failed to excite for such an interesting look with intricate details; white, silver or navy ‘Nudist’ sandals would’ve worked better here.

Do you agree?
