Janelle Monae In Alexandre Vauthier Couture – 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Janelle Monae attended the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday night (February 26).

The singer and now-actress wore a black Alexandre Vauthier gown from the Fall 2016 Couture collection.

Let’s be honest: Janelle’s Elie Saab Couture gown from the ceremony was a pretty tough act to follow, but I like this choice as the fashion dessert to that main course. It plays along to the same theme–black, voluminous skirt, highly editorial–but in a much edgier fashion.

The punk elements of the mesh sleeves and upper bodice and the brackets on the sash are a bit of a departure for the often ladylike Janelle, and she is selling me hard on the look.

Keeping her hair styled the same throughout the night only further cements the idea that her two gowns were very much two chapters in the same fashion story.

Thank you, Janelle, once again, for making fashion so much more than just a dress and some jewels.

Christian Louboutin ‘Marchavekel’ heels and the same Jennifer Behr headpiece from earlier in the day completed her look.

Kate Hudson In Cavalli Couture – 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Kate Hudson attended the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday night (February 26).

The actress wore a champagne-colored lace Cavalli Couture gown with diamond jewels and a copper-toned clutch.

I really want to like this look, I do, but somehow the proportions just strike me wrong. The lace tiering is beautiful, but along with the ultra low neckline, it just seems a bit off to me.

Her fresh-faced makeup and textured French twist are stunning and well-suited to the gown, but they just can’t redeem what doesn’t sit right with me.

What do you think–am I crazy, or is this just not doing it for you, either?

Ciara In August Getty Atelier & Jovani Signature – 2017 Oscar Parties

Being pregnant with (rumored) twins was not about to stop Ciara from attending both the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party and the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday (February 26), and changing for each event.

Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party: I love the simple elegance of her August Getty Atelier dress and duster combination. It has a warm fresh feel about it which was perfect for this event, but I’m also feeling like this would’ve been a great look for a posh baby shower.

2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party: The singer stunned a plush velvet Jovani Signature gown in a rich oxblood hue, but sadly it’s inevitable that this was always going to be compared to Beyonce’s Peter Dundas Grammys gown.

Which look do you favour?

Sarah Paulson In Ronald van der Kemp – 2017 Oscar Vanity Fair Party

Sarah Paulson attended the 2017 Oscar Vanity Fair Party on Sunday night (February 26).

The actress wore a two-toned, velvet gown from the Ronald van der Kemp Spring 2017 Couture collection and a yellow box clutch and long Forevermark diamond earrings.

As per usual, Sarah doesn’t disappoint with her daring and much-of-the-time quirky approach to fashion. This gown is nothing if not a talking point, and such a striking color and design.

My only tiny complaint is that it is a bit heavy on Sarah. I wish it had been taken in a bit more like we see in the lookbook, because all the fabric is dangerously close to wearing Sarah, vs. her wearing it.

That small critique withstanding, I love this look. It’s strong and striking, like Sarah herself, and her asymmetrical bob and smudgey smokey eye are the perfect beauty choices to round it out.

Kerry Washington In Michael Kors Collection – 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

I’m sure you were as surprised as I was to see Kerry Washington not wearing Prada or Miu Miu to the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday (February 26).

Perhaps she used up her credit for the weekend at the Spirit Awards, or perhaps she fancied something new.

And that came in the form of this custom copper sequin Michael Kors Collection gown styled with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals and an Edie Parker ‘Wol’ clutch.

This falls in the just ok file for me.

Had this been in a goddess green hue or in that same electric colour as Ashley Tisdale’s gown I would’ve been more excited about it.

Ashley Tisdale In Narciso Rodriguez – Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party

Ashley Tisdale brought out an arresting jewel tone for Elton John’s AIDS Foundation’s Oscars Viewing Party on Sunday (February 26).

Keeping her look clean and minimal, she wore a fitted gown by Narciso Rodriguez, which sees her stepped out of her comfort zone of neutral colours.

I love that she opted for a grown up, sophisticated look, as she tends to walk a more juvenile path as we’ve seen recently.

Simple makeup and tousled waves completed her look.
